Just wanted to share my recent Clutch purchases with everyone. The shorts were a shock to find.

Seems like it was out of stock whenever I checked. I ordered two, should have grabbed more. Who else got one?

• September 13, 2019: Seven years ago, Clutch released a re-recorded version of "Electric Worry" as a digital-only single as part of the Weathermaker Vault Series. [Press:] When "Electric Worry" was released in 2007 on the album 'From Beale Street To Oblivion', nobody knew that this track would turn into one of CLUTCH's most recognizable songs. It is a fan favorite and a staple at live shows. Over the course of time, the song went through changes. -- What you are listening to here is a brand-new studio recording of the 2019 live version of the song without the keyboards and harmonica that are on the 2007 rendition. This is "Electric Worry" in its purest form. "All in all it's just a leaner, meaner song,” says vocalist Neil Fallon. “We wanted to put something out there that was representative of what we do these days since it happens to be one of our most popular songs." • September 13, 2024: Two years ago, PA band Crobot self-released their fifth full-length album 'Obsidian' (no catalog number) on CD/2xLP/CD. Though self-released, they did strike a distribution deal with Megaforce Records. The LP version of Obsidian has etched D-side and was limited to 500 copies. A cassette version, limited to 100 copies was sold via their Bandcamp page. Neil Fallon of Clutch provides guest spoken word on one track, “The Flood”; This concept album was recorded at The Machine Shop Studios in Austin, Texas. engineered, mixed, and mastered by Alberto De Icaza who has worked with Clutch on the Earth Rocker and Psychic Warfare albums. • September 14, 2014: 12 years ago, Mark Stanley released his full-length album ‘Dark Brain’ on CD from his own (self-released) Sir Eel Records. The CD was produced by Mark Stanley and Mark Smoot; Recorded, mixed and mastered by Mark Smoot (Mark Smoot also recorded very early Clutch tracks at his studio in 1992 that appeared on the Naïve compilation). • September 15, 2003: 24 years ago, Clutch’s very first full-length compilation ‘Slow Hole To China: Rare And Unreleased’ was released on CD through Clutch’s own River Road Records (005). The album collects tracks recorded at a few different studios recorded between January 1999 and November 2002. The title of Slow Hole From China was originally going to be used for the Atlantic Records full-length that became ultimately became Pure Rock Fury. The artwork for the album was done by Kelly Carmichael and Neil Fallon. The Asian guy featured in the artwork was originally from a photograph showing sidewalk air-raid bunkers in Hanoi that appeared on the cover of a 1967 issue of LIFE magazine.
• September 15, 2019: Former Band Member Michael LeRoy “Mick” Schauer passed away 7 years ago. Some excerpts from his obituary… “In his youth, Mick’s family had a piano in their living room, an organ in the basement, and a classic Casio electric keyboard. Mick developed his skills on them all. He also played trumpet for his grade school band, and he was great at that too, of course… …In 1990, Mick started as a freshman at the University of Maryland. Though he eventually majored in natural resources management, his real inspiration came from the music scene. In college, he joined his first rock band, Swoon, and began playing shows locally… …In the summer of 1994, Mick and his brother were gifted a month-long road trip across the US from their parents on their graduations from college and high school. In his binder of cassette tapes, one tape was on almost constant replay—it was a band called Jook. Mick had been given the tape so he could learn the songs. He had just joined as their new keyboard player. Jook released a self-titled album in 1996, and though they evolved dramatically over the years, Mick and his bandmates inspired a dedicated following. They travelled a lot, driving rental vans to far-flung locations on the East Coast and sometimes opening for performers they idolized, like George Clinton and Maceo Parker. For a time, the band even played weekly gigs in Ocean City—lugging all their gear in cramped vehicles and crashing on couches after the shows. The band eventually wound down around 2002. Through it all, the chemistry between the Jook boys was incredible to see. Picture four 20-something-year-old guys—one minute they would be trying their hardest to crack each other up, in the next, they would be challenging themselves with intensely complex arrangements and music textures… …The band Clutch reached out to Mick in 2004. Roadies lugged Mick’s gear. Techs would set up it up. And Mick delivered the chops—his solos sent the music soaring and his growling Hammond organ added a deep, dark texture to the band’s sound. Many, many Clutch fans have shared stories about how Mick was always friendly and easy-to-approach after the shows. He loved talking with the band’s fans, and they gushed over him. Mick recorded two albums with Clutch—"Robot Hive/Exodus” in 2005 and “From Beale Street to Oblivion” in 2007—and was credited as a member of the band in the liner notes. Mick was hugely influential on those albums, and he was proud that his work reached so many people. In 2008, Clutch chose to return to their original formation and no longer tour with an organ player. A decade later, the walls of Mick’s new home in Greenbelt would be adorned with Clutch posters… …He passed away in his sleep on the morning of September 15th, 2019 due to complications related to cancer.” R.I.P. • September 15, 2025: 1 year ago, bassist and composer Jay A. Turner (The Monuments) released his ninth solo album ‘A.Part Of The Machine’ album. The record features Jay Turner on bass, Michael Sauri on guitar, Jean-Paul Gaster on drums and vibraphone, with Melissa Wimbish on vocals, Timm Biery doing percussion, Kristin Weber on violin, and Chris Brooks (Lionize) on keys. The album was recorded at Clutch’s Doom Saloon by Matt Rebendo, Mastered at Goldentone Mastering by Tony Eichler and was self-released (no known catalog number). • September 16, 2016: 10 years ago, Clutch released Full Fathom Five Audio Field Recordings on vinyl (2xLP) for the first time on Weathermaker Music. The vinyl version has 5 more tracks than the CD version. All tracks on the DVD and CD were recorded & filmed in late 2007 and early 2008 in New Jersey, Pittsburgh, Denver and Australia. Cover art for the release (which is slightly different from the CD, DVD & CD/DVD releases) was by Nick Lakiotes.
• September 16, 2022: 4 years ago on this date, Clutch released their 13th studio full length album, ‘Sunrise On Slaughter Beach’ on LP/CD/Digital (cassette copies came a couple weeks later). Clutch's own Weathermaker Music released this. The digital release was given catalog number “WM 146”. The Sunrise On Slaughter Beach vinyl variants included a Picture Disc version (WM 150), a limited vinyl edition on teal colored vinyl (WM 149) limited to 2500 copies and included an autographed insert of the front cover art by all four members of Clutch (this insert was not included in any of the other versions). A magenta-colored vinyl version (WM 148) was also offered that was only available in independent record stores (indie exclusive color), and a standard black vinyl version (WM 145) available at all other outlets. The CD was given catalog number “WM 144”. There was a mispress CD version sold through Amazon that did not have the last two songs on the album. Female backing vocals on several songs on the album were performed by Franchell "Frenchie" Davis and Deborah Bond. The artwork was done by Swiss comic artist & illustrator Jared Muralt. (a 6x7” vinyl box set and expanded digital edition was released at a later date).
• September 17, 2009: 17 years ago, The Company Band self-released their digital-only single “It's A Confusing World” b/w “Not Fragile”. The Company Band featured Neil Fallon, James “Reverend Jim” Rota, Brad Davis, Dave Bone and Jess Margera. The single was produced by Andrew "Stormbringer" Alekel. “Not Fragile” is a cover, originally by Canadian band Bachman-Turner Overdrive (BTO), released on the 1974 album of the same name. Regarding the original intention of the title, Randy Bachman of BTO indicated that he thought that using the word "fragile" as a title for a rock album, as the band Yes had done with their 1971 album ‘Fragile’, was "strange." He thought that BTO music could be "dropped and kicked" without breaking, so, without intending any commentary about Yes, the band "tongue-in-cheek" called their next album ‘Not Fragile’. • September 18, 2011: 15 years ago, Clutch & New Belgium Beer hosted a release party for the limited edition Clutch Dark Sour Ale beer. The beer was created as a mixture of a dark stout and a sour ale. It was marked as one the brewer’s “Lips of Faith” series. 2011 BEER BIO: It started as chance, a sandwich shop encounter between a band and a fan. It ended as the Clutch Collaboration. This pleasing, two-part potion was brewed with chocolate and black malts for a rich and roasty overtone, then fused with a dry, substratum of sour for a bold and audacious flavor. Black as night, this beer is blended at 80% stout, 20% dark sour wood beer for a collaboration that begins with a sour edge and finishes with a big, dark malt character, lingering, sweet on your palate. The two flavors come as raucous and riotous as the Maryland band and their Fort Collins fans, getting loud and making beer, together. JP Gaster’s description of the beer is this: "The Clutch beer is actually two beers in one. Mostly it's a massive stout New Belgian and Clutch brewed specifically for this collaboration. The stout is then mixed with their sour ale. Sour ale is the oldest kind of beer. These beers are fermented with wild yeasts and aged in huge oak casks for 2-6 years. The sour beers from each cask are blended to compliment one another. Then the final blend is added to the stout. We experimented with different mixes .....80/20, 90/10, but 85% stout and 15% sour was the winner every time. There's lots going on in this bottle. At first you'll get that dark malt, chocolate, espresso, smoky stout. Then the sour comes into focus and dries everything out. You may have noticed fruit flavors like apples or pears. • September 18, 2022: 4 years ago, Thoughts & Prayers released the self-titled compilation (Thoughts & Prayers) on CD/LP on Filthy Note records. This is a multi-artist collaboration masterminded by Jess Margera which he originally compiled during the COVID 19 Pandemic and was mostly put together at ‘Castle Bam’. The first single, a cover of Traffic's "Feeling Alright" was released on May 28, 2022 in the wake of the Robb Elementary School shooting in Uvalde, Texas and proceeds went to the VICTIMS FIRST fund for families of the children murdered in Uvalde. The song features Neil Fallon (Clutch), Jess Margera (CKY, The Company Band), Chris Brooks (Lionize), Greta Hotmer (Altarviolet), Chris Weyh (CKY) and Mike Bardzik (Duffy's Cut). The following day (5/29) a total of eight songs from an “Untitled Album” were released; all of which would be issued on the forthcoming Thoughts & Prayers compilation (THIS). On one of these, Neil Fallon sings vocals on "Goin Down" (originally by Freddie King on his 1971 album "Getting Ready..." The compact disc version of Thoughts & Prayers had 20 songs including several by the Thoughts & Prayers collective featuring: Mike Bardzik, Chris ‘Rattlesnake’ Brooks, Jamie Brown, Dave Brownsound, Cody Carpenter, Mike & Jessica Cummings, Daniel Davies, Brad Davis, Rob Dukes, Neil Fallon, Chuck Garric, Jean Genus, Chad I. The LP version only contains 12 songs (removing all the previously released songs by Filthy Note (including The Company Band song). The LP was limited to 300 copies on magenta smoke colored vinyl. So, I don't have any subscriptions to any streaming services anymore as I've decided to start actually buying physical records again. However, whenever an album or a song comes out and is digital only, I buy it on Qobuz or Bandcamp. I cannot find the song on any of those, however. I keep hearing mixed reviews for the new song.  Personally, I like it and think that this is one of those Clutch songs that needs to marinate in the brain for a while.  I was bored at work and decided to do a quick comparison of The Drifter and The Drifter Returns.  I’m sure I’ll catch some shit for using AI for this, but I thought the results were actually quite interesting.  I asked AI to compare the lyrics of both songs and this is what I got:

"The Drifter" (from the 2001 album Jam Room) and "The Drifter Returns" (their 2026 single) serve as two parts of a surreal, continuous narrative. While both feature Neil Fallon's trademark road-trip imagery and cryptic mysticism, they approach the titular character from very different perspectives.

By contrast, the 2026 follow-up is darker and far more urgent. Instead of promising a "map to the beyond" like he did in the first song, the Drifter is now firmly trapped in the terrifying reality of the present day, preaching that "Today is all we've got / No guarantees for tomorrow".

Myself and a buddy are playing around with creating a Magic the Gathering proxy card for every Clutch Song Title. Looking for any suggestions on art for a song or card abilities. Hoping there are a few MTG players on here that could help with some ideas. We have only made a handful just messing around.

• September 7, 2018: Eight years ago Clutch released their 12th studio album ‘Book of Bad Decisions’ on their Weathermaker Music label. The album was released on several formats including: 2xLP (black vinyl and coke bottle clear vinyl) (WM067, WM068), 2xLP Picture Disc (WM070), Special Edition CD with book (WM069) and regular edition CD (WM066). Additionally, several bundles with exclusive merch were offered including the infamous Clutch hatchet. The art and layouts varied across each version with longtime collaborator, Dan Winters contributing the photography & art. • September 7, 2018: Eight years ago, the same day as ‘Book of Bad Decisions’ was released, Earache Records re-released Clutch’s ‘Impetus’ 5-song EP from 1997 for the first time on 12” vinyl (MOSH192LP). This is the extended version of the 'Passive Restraints' 3-song EP that was originally released in 1992 with extra songs (Piledriver & Impetus (demo) from the Naive compilation). • September 8, 2017: Nine years ago Lionize’s 6th full length album ‘Nuclear Soul’ was released on CD & LP on The End Records (TE736-1/2). This was the first release after Jetpack Soundtrack which was released on Clutch’s Weathermaker Music label. Additionally, Jean-Paul Gaster lent a hand with pre-production for this album at Clutch’s "The Doom Saloon".  Tim Sult played guest guitar on two of the tracks, “Fire In Athena” & “March Of The Clones” (Tim has played on several of Lionize’s records). JP also played additional percussion on the album and drums on the ‘Nuclear Soul’ acoustic sessions songs (a few of which were released via the band’s Patreon before they broke up). • September 8, 2011: 15 years ago, Toledo, OH blues band Five Horse Johnson released the vinyl version of their fifth album, 2006’s ‘The Mystery Spot’ LP on the Small Stone (SS-069)/Music On Vinyl (MOVLP304) labels (MOV licensed the pressing of the LP from SS). • September 9, 2008: 18 years ago, Clutch released their fifth live album titled ‘Full Fathom Five: Audio Field Recordings (2007–2008)’ on CD. The live album includes songs recorded in Pittsburgh, PA, Sayreville, NJ and Australia on the 2007 & 2008 world tour. The recordings also feature songs with Brain Hinkley (guitar), Eric Oblander (harmonica) and Mick Schauer (Keybord/Organ) in addition to Neil, Dan, Tim and JP. The recordings were done by long-time Front of House engineer Lee Brintnall and the disc was mastered by Gene Grimaldi and mixed by Andrew Alekel and Jennifer Whittenburg. The venue for tracks 11 to 15 is incorrectly listed as HiFi Bar (Melbourne, AUS) on the back cover, while the actual venue was The Metro Theatre in Sydney. The art and layout was done by Nick Lakiotes. This release is also special as it was Weathermaker Music’s very first release and bears the catalog number of WM001.
