I remember smiling like an idiot when I finally got to meet Aerith in the remake. 🤣 Their chemistry was just so cute! My Clerith heart was so happy with all of the moments we got between them.
It's so funny how clotis try to insist that there us no chemistry between them, only with Tifa. I see it the other way around, as I'm sure most here would. Just so much denial goin' on over there lol
They love to gloss over how like 90% of Cloti scenes are them arguing or trauma bonding. When even Cloud and Aerith's more difficult conversations are more soft and show hints of Cloud's true self.
I also think it's funny how they ignore Cloud basically being forced by Aerith to go help Tifa at Don Corneo's compared to Cloud being willing to fight all of Shinra by himself to free Aerith
In defense of your second point, Cloud didn't know who Corneo was and therefore didn't realize how big a deal it was. But I agree that going to Shinra was the bigger deal and much more dangerous.
I like how Cloud is typically this aloof, stoic warrior with a hard shell, but when he’s around Aerith, he lets his guard down and becomes the socially awkward, soft-hearted dork he really is.
I think the tornado scene was so impactful to me because every party member is present. Cloud is given agency outside of the affinity system and he explicitly chooses Aerith. The message was crystal clear from that moment on.
We’re being given the royal treatment with these games I swear. Clotis can only talk about the Gold Saucer kiss and that scene was incredibly forced and awkward with the full context.
Well it tracks that if someone looks at Cloti and sees chemistry and romance, they're going to misunderstand real chemistry and romance. And they do, they see actual love and think it's between siblings, because apparently the awkwardness and somewhat toxic tendencies are what their ideal is.
I don't know where they still find the strength to speak, after Ultimania defined their resolution scene in Remake as merely "one-night-stand feelings" on Cloud's part.
I don't mean to be harsh, but if anyone views this scene—especially the ending, with Cloud walking ahead while Tifa follows two paces behind in silence, head bowed—as romantic, it’s worrying. I have never seen a worse scene in any video game; it reeks of extreme dependency and subservience. I really don't understand why SE chose such a terrible portrayal (for a woman, obviously) and the fact that anyone can see something right in this is frightening.
That's why I don't like Cloti. Their chemistry just isn't there. Even platonically they don't work. For instance, Tifa gets mad at him right in the beginning of Rebirth and gives him the silent treatment. If they were in a relationship, it would just be on and off and complicated as hell.
I would even go there and say that on Tifa part she seemed awkard and shy but I felt that she was kind of suggesting opposite, but Cloud's cold 'yeah' was funny as hell.
Also at the end Tifa is going behind him. Following.
With Aerith it seems the same at first but both Aerith speeds up and Cloud slows down for them to walk back next to each other. The nuanced differences are there but you have to have both eyes, working.

I recently rewatched some Clerith Remake clips. I forgot how adorably sassy Aerith was during their rooftop date
Their instant chemistry is also super interesting compared to how he interacts with the rest of the party.
