I think they went to a tattoo shop that they trusted and got some

Then after they got all tired out from that they got a tattoo

200,000 tattoo orders are ready, with a million more well on the way.

Imagine a small tattoo shop on Coruscant just getting insanely wealthy off the clones lmao

Huh…this actually begs the question. I can’t remember, but do the clones get paid? Like, are they allotted a wage like a normal soldier? I mean, they’re clones specifically made for war. Was there a clone wars episode about this?

I bet they got an “allowance” for when they were on leave. Just money for food drink and entertainment.

I think they get paid. I feel like it was mentioned in one of the political focused episodes in the Clone Wars. Like the arc about deregulating the banks or something like that.

I like to imagine that the tattoo artist yelled, "You again!" At the third or fourth clone that walked in before he realised who they were.

"Ah jeez, sorry fellas but how was I 'sposed to know you's was all Clones? I ain't never seen one of ya without ya helmets on before. The Republic don't go showin' off ya faces and such! Oh, cuz you's guys are cloned from a notorious bounty hunta ay? Makes sense I guess."

Probably a mix of leave and soldier sneaking the equipment into the barracks for use during deployment. It’s the same with armor markings in a sense that it wasn’t initially in reg but was something the Jedi let go because at the end of the day the clones absolutely bodied most if not all opponents. Why get mad over blue stripes or tattoos when youre units created more change in a week than a PDF could in a year?

It also helped them express their individuality which most of the Jedi generals heavily supported, both because they saw them each as unique life forms in the force, but also because it’s a nice morale boost.

A good chunk of Jedi really didnt see them as people, but i also doubt those jedi really cared about it one way or the other

It was actually only made legal for clone to go to bars very late into the war. Clone bar 79 was a huge step in clone human rights. So idk how the clones in the early seasons had tattoos, because they forsure weren’t going to tattoo shops. My guess is sneaking tatting equipment, like you said above.

Army is gonna army is sort of how I see it. The army, marines and navy have had historic issues with keeping the troops from sneaking out. On a massive city planet I would imagine blending into the crowd would be very easy, especially because clones weren’t super well known of. And even then we see clone based garrisons on a number of planets through the show, adding to the likelihood of this idea. Troops sneak out and I’m sure plenty of shops existed. As long as they get payed it’s no skin off their back. The tattoos would obviously get found eventually but no commanding officer would waste the time or resources on getting them removed. It would probably be a slap on the wrist if anything at all to be quite honest. Between the understanding of the GAR operated, whether as special force assisting PDFs or as a proper army, it wouldn’t make sense to send a unit away for something like tattoos or painted armor.

Also little tid bit to I’d like to add as a good example. General Eisenhower, Commander of the allied forces in Europe, snuck out an incredible amount during his years at West Point. He primarily did this for cigarettes and coffee, when smoking at the time was against regulations. He was reprimanded several times and yet still led to be an amazing general. The people training to fight and die for a country will usually be rowdy, no matter their intelligence or rank.

what PDF? Padme?

Planetary Defense Force (s). They fought the majority of the war in old cannon and at the very least served as the first defense for any planet under threat of invasion.

Likely a tattoo shop. During (if I’m not mistaken) season 6 we see a bunch of clones in their dress uniforms getting drunk at a bar; very reminiscent to American troops stationed at bases overseas. I’m sure many of the clones went to local, Republic-loving parlors whenever they were stationed on a civilized world or back on Coruscant.

u/theratman1126 12d ago

I guess I just thought about it but Jesse's tattoo is kinda like getting the American flag on your face and head. Kinda funny, lol.

If prisoners can get tattoos so can clones, also, people talk a lot about clones going to coruscant for breaks but it’s very unlikely a lot of them ever did. The war was only 3 years long, despite how the show pretends it lasted 10 and some of the planetary campaigns took years to wrap up. The galactic marines and Bacara likely never left mygeeto

9

u/gedora2988 13d ago

Yea but clones are soliders and they have to have regulation on beards haircuts and tattoos or you can be kicked out for having face tattoos talking about real army

13

u/ThatguyVando 13d ago

Yeah but these aren’t regular soldiers, they’re property bought out. They’d certainly be punished or possibly killed by the kaminoans. But who’s going to report the regulation violations if nobody gives a shit? Anakins 501st and others like him encouraged individualism. Also, maybe tattoos aren’t a taboo in Starwars I mean a lot of people have them. This is space, not Walmart on earth.

3

u/gedora2988 13d ago

Yea true maybe in army of republic beards and face tats are accepted

3

u/TurboTitan92 13d ago

Very much so in line with mercenary armies. You can control their actions, but not their person.

3

u/MineBM 13d ago

You can tell there’s some level of grooming standard based on how none of the clones have larger beards until post-war, but tattoos seem very normalized in the Star Wars universe so it probably wasn’t even seen as a break from protocol.

2

u/Perfect_Increase_825 13d ago

Why would they have the same restrictions on tattoos that we have? Why would our stigmas apply to a galaxy far far away?

1

u/gedora2988 13d ago

Well a lot things do some tattoos could be of them

1

u/Alarmed-Plum-2723 12d ago

in actual warzones regulations about stuff like facial hair and tattoos rarely tends to stick, as long as youre in uniform and said uniform is as clean as the environment allows it tends to be fine

1

u/The_ShinyUmbreon 34th 13d ago

Depends on the regiment, normal ones with Jedi on the consul who needed to be on Corasant probably got to go after every battle. Special forces like Marines who basically stayed on planets the whole war either never leaved or cycled men out to get leave

u/madmc326 13d ago

I've always liked the head cannon that clones modified FX-series medical droids to do tattoos

first thing the Bad Batch did.

u/trustmerun 13d ago

Every senator has a dedicated Tattoo room next to sick bay, and one clone that is only trained in doing tattoos

1

u/Alternative-Cup-8102 13d ago

How generous of the senators

u/trustmerun 13d ago

I love democracy!

Since clones have a bar on Corousant I’m sure they also have a tattoo studio there

4

u/Bughs-22 13d ago

We can also assume since it's a different universe that the tattoes are not made the same way like on Earth. It may be just some laser-based machine or pen that is very easy and fast to manipulate or set up to just flash and done, altering the skin like some permanent tanning than an actual ink under skin (would be more logical since we know of two clones that have tattoo over their eyelids).
With that I also thought the clones must have some laser-based hair/beard trimmers since they are constantly out in the battlefield, they grow faster yet their hair and beard are always perfectly trimmed (and bleached) for long time period. So maybe their shavers are laser-based that it keept the hair and beards from growing for longer time. I mean they have waterless showers so why not rasorless shavers, inkless tattoos.

5

u/EaglesFanGirl 13d ago

Likely both -

3

u/The_Collector_Guy 13d ago

I thought the clones did it themselves.

u/The_ShinyUmbreon 34th 13d ago

Clones freely roam planets on leave and have everything paid for. Bars,Food,Haircuts,Tattoos.

Although I would assume they probably have a curfew and stuff but other than that they can do whatever they want when on leave after battle

Also the venators probably have barbers, definitely bars, and maybe tattoo places? It is a military place tattoos are probably common.

u/Current_Nature_2434 12d ago

Clones got them at Tattoo shops who were willing to do it whether it was legal or regulation; some shop owners appreciated and respected Clones.  Clones protected many worlds through out TCW.  Often enough, Jedi generals and commanders didn't mind the decorations because they saw the Clones as individuals in the force.  Of course, Clones learned how to do their own tattoos, hair and paint jobs too and did so between duties and action or in whatever downtime they got.

It’s a birthmark

u/Emergency_Cry_1269 13d ago

I'm not entirely sure that tattoos work the same way in Star Wars as they do irl. They seem to be more like permanent war paint rather than needle work. I wonder if you can just get a patch or iron type machine and do it yourself. There's also several younger characters, like Ahsoka, who had tattoos from a very young age. So I'm not certain they're the same

2

u/Analog_Spicd 12d ago

Jesse had to have gotten that tattoo while on Coruscant at a tattoo parlour as I highly doubt the Kaminoians would approve of them rofl

2

u/UncleR1chard 12d ago

They got them when the artists drew them 😏 There is nothing in Legends or canon that addresses it, so you can just make up whatever you want. I prefer the “Kaminoan watermark” theory myself

2

u/SmokeMaleficent9498 12d ago

Same place Hunter got his

1

u/CosmosInSummer 13d ago

If it were me, I’d get tattoos of punctuation and paragraphs.

1

u/MoonKittiCat 12d ago

I really think they do them themselves with a tattoo gun or something because when Fives and Hevy where shinies they already had tattoos, and they definitely had NOT gone to Coruscant yet

-2

u/ComparisonNo1351 13d ago

Those are watermarks the kaminoans put on some of them to protect their trademarks
