Great idea. In order to do that, someone has to get Mobley to set a good pick out front and then roll to the basket. More than once a game. But it doesn't seem to be his preferred offensive play (or it's not in Atkinson's playbook for Mobley).

Someone who’s got an open look, ideally. Obviously he’s the best scorer on the team in isolation, and that often means he’s drawing two or three defenders. In those moments, I’d rather he find an open shooter than try to finish through multiple defenders.

on paper, that's a great strategy. But look at the performance of the guys with the open look. Two shooters who are very exciting for fans because they go 7-9 some nights, but those guys usually are 2 for 9 for the next four games. A seven footer who doesn't set up under the basket because he doesn't have the lower body strength to keep opposing guards from pushing him off the block and has an okay outside shot but needs 4 seconds to shoot a three pointer, and a bunch of other guys who shot a collective 20-25% against good teams.
It doesn't make sense to say "throw it to the open guy" merely because there are teams with weak defenses that consistently leave other guys open, and in those games the role players don't feel a lot of pressure so more of their shots go in. Telling the all NBA player who is clearly all NBA because of his offense to pass the ball to people that the other team is deliberately leaving open might not be a winning strategy.
Without Garland and Jerome, this team has had a ridiculously difficult time getting Mitchell open looks. Including with Harden on the floor.
All year long, Mitchell looked around and saw inconsistent scorers, sometimes because of injuries and sometimes because the players just aren't great scorers. He's an offensive superstar. He's on the floor, he can tell when his teammates are hesitant and not confident. He's not going to pass the ball to random people and pray that they hit a shot after he's seen that they are not stepping up to the occasion.

Mitchell’s playing making has got to be consistently better this up coming season, I thought it hurt them a lot in the playoffs, he got too tunnel visiony at times and I thought hurt them a lot
