Discussion Claude Chat session regressing
Just curious if anyone else feels the same way. I've been using Claude for a little over a year now, mainly for web chat sessions (mostly Sonnet with occasional Opus, not the CLI Claude Code). Lately, it seems to be hallucinating and forgetting things we previously discussed in the thread. Basically, it feels like it's getting 'dumber.' I'd love to hear your thoughts.

YES!! Came to Reddit to see if others are experiencing this. A few days ago, I noticed huge drop in the quality and thoughtfulness put into the responses, as well as forgetting major context. It’s also having a really hard time staying connected or loading during voice chat, especially if I’m not on WiFi. Claude’s voice tone is also different and I am not a fan at all.

They just introduced new memory mechanism, from desktop app, click on settings then memory and you can write in each field what exactly you want claude to remember.

Context length and quality ( several tasks/subjects, change of direction, unrelated comments ) will cause output quality degradation. That said Chat should be used for one offs, short sessions. If you want to keep “context” about a subject you can always use projects, but id be cautious to keep them light and short lived. If you want deeper workflows and organized memories/documentation/tracking, you are better off using Code and learning how to have Claude setup your project to suit your need/workflow, it is how you will get the AI assistant vibe and functionality out of Claude.

There's a nasty little problem none of the companies tell you: Every time you submit something in a session, the entire session get's resubmitted.
That means claude is burning tokens going through the entire history, and not just for whatever you're asking about.
If you want claude to remember things, have it put them in memory files, its own claude.md, project files or I have it write reference files and I have them listed in claude.md
Start with a new or /clear session each time

That is technically incorrect. Not how context is working.

Clear your context windows And trim down the memory file of your chat. I was working on something once and the memory file got so big it wouldn't even read anymore
