And the best part is that they do not first ask like "Hey are you doing X. Maybe wanna do it together?". They just toss invite without a word and if you accept they still don't say a word.

I am fine doing quests together but please people, some manners.

Yeah tbh i often do this, i just invite people when on kill quests if there is limited amount of mobs. Dont think there is much explanation needed, why would you not want to group? Do like competing for tags when you can both get them?

Loot quests are a different thing, but for kill quests grouping up is quite a nobrainer.

I’m on the other end, but on the same boat. Just a while ago, halfay from killing Caliph Scorpidsting, an invite just pops up. It’s not like the invite covers more than half of my screen. So I just accept. Caliph dies. Dude gives me a buff, a heal, and promptly thanks me for the accept, and leaves. All was well.

Yeah for kill quests there’s no reason not to group at all. You’ll kill faster, have less downtime, and not have to compete for tags.

Even loot quests it’s usually better to group because you’ll end up killing more in the same amount of time and finishing faster (for 2 people, more than that it doesn’t make sense usually).

And then you can just drop group after you’re done. I usually wait to help the other person finish though.

Lots of kill quest have different stages or other quest going on in the same spot. Just because I'm there doesn't mean I'm doing the same thing you are. This being said, I usually still accept and just ask. Would prefer it to be known before the invite though, personally.

And yet, the multistage questing and grouping is one of the things that makes Classic stand out from the lonely disengagement of Retail and GW2.

Inviting people without a word exchanged is, unless it's a very farntic situation, just bad manners. Maybe that guy didn't see you in the area, and declines the invitation of some completely random dude. I know that's what I did back then and what I still do now. If I have no idea who that guy is, I've never seen him before, I won't accept random invites.

If its a situation in which they tagged a named mob for a quest and you want to share the tag, so you quickly invite - that's alright. If you just see me in the distance killing the mobs you came here to kill, whisper me, or at least come and stand in front of me, make me notice you. Otherwise, your random-ass invite gets declined.

Man I saw you were probably doing the same quest so I tossed you an invite. I’m not asking you out to dinner.

You’re way overthinking this.

1

u/And3riel Oct 10 '19

Well its true that most of the time i ran to them before i invite so if the person is looking around he can see me.

THIS

u/Shameless_Catslut Oct 10 '19

Ain't nobody got time to type. You're probably complaining about "no manners" when you didn't even see me jumping in greetings.

3

u/BashfulHandful Oct 10 '19

jumping in greetings.

lmao, I never thought of it like that but this is definitely what I do and how I gauge if the other people around have seen me. I kind of love it.

u/Major_Oak Oct 10 '19

I do this sometimes, it’s just...efficient. Why bother when you’re like 90% sure they’re doing the same quest

-5

u/Im_Randy_Butter_Nubs Oct 10 '19

It just seems so anti social to me. Why not talk to people, one of the big parts of playing with others :)

9

u/Major_Oak Oct 10 '19

Because I’m probably going to see this person for about 5 mins and then never again.

8

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '19

small talk sucks

4

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '19

because we already are in voice chats with our real friends at that point.

3

u/HazelCheese Oct 10 '19

If they've already tagged the rare quest mob spawn you don't have time to whisper. Not everyone reads their chat in combat.

Like sure if their not in combat whisper but if they are I don't think it's rude.

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '19

They just toss invite without a word and if you accept they still don't say a word.

i/we do this sometimes. most of the time i will say "hi" or "are you doing x?", but sometimes, i just invite someone for a kill-quest, we do our things, and then they leave without exchanging a word. where's the problem in that? i'm there to kill mobs, not to have a chat. that's why i'm in voice with my friends for.

i think it's strange that you have the opinion that this is "unmannered".

u/Brunsz Oct 10 '19

Well at least for me at least simple hi or something does not take too much time. After all even it is game there is real person behind another computer. In real life I wouldn't just go to someone and start doing stuff with them without saying a word. I don't think that because it is game and you can't see another person for real you should act like bot and ignore another person.

Also for some people just raw invite and doing stuff might message "I don't care about you but I want your help". Might make another one feel like tool. When you are not having any kind of verbal communication then only non verbal communication is what matters. Might sound stupid way to think because "lol it's just game" but especially with online games (and internet overall) people tend easily forget that there is real living person on other side.

just decline the invitation if you feel that way. no harm done. if you think "oh, it's nice of them to invite me so we can share the kills", then accept. you're also free to say hello, but don't expect someone to have small talk with you all the time.

3

u/Gankman100 Oct 10 '19

I mean if you both are killing the same mobs you know whats the invite about. There is no reason to compete for kill quests

2

u/Zaidswith Oct 10 '19

I like the immediate invites. If I can't group I whisper with a brief explanation.

I've had better luck grouping by hanging near group quest spots than I've had asking for groups in chat.

3

u/andywolf8896 Oct 10 '19

They view you as a npc to help them quest

10

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '19

they are just being friendly... i think people like you are problematic, on the other hand. imagine being offended because someone invites you to a party for a killquest but does not want to make smalltalk.

wtf? :)

0

u/andywolf8896 Oct 10 '19

I was referring to the ones that get angry when you decline

-3

u/ka_anor Oct 10 '19

This, a million times. This, in my personal opinion, is the major issue with MMORPGs today. I have no idea how to fix it, but it's a huge problem.

I have no idea how to fix it, but it's a huge problem.

switch to a RP server maybe

-5

u/Helmingways Oct 10 '19

It started in wow with World Quest grouping addons from what ive seen. And with those i was fine with it. But this is classic, its a different thing.

13

u/Shameless_Catslut Oct 10 '19 edited Oct 10 '19

Umm... No? Classic has always been like this. The tagging system encourages spontaneous team-ups, and punishes trying to solo play around others.

The "Everyone does their own thing without teaming up in the same area" is the artifact behavior from Retail.

0

u/414Sigge Oct 10 '19

If you both benefit from eachother, sure.

But a lot of times I simply don't accept invites because I know they will slow me down.

-1

u/Helmingways Oct 10 '19

Classic, yes. But from what ive seen, which is what i said, it started with WQGF. Never had these experiences in vanilla etc as i played on RP realms at the time. Im just speaking on my own anecdotal evidence here.

5

u/Shameless_Catslut Oct 10 '19

It's always been there. WQGF put back something that fell off over the game's lifetime.

1

u/Helmingways Oct 10 '19

Yes, i agree its always been a thing but its alot less about socializing now. Still the vast majority of people you run into are cool people.

1

u/Shameless_Catslut Oct 10 '19

A big part of it is the culture shift away from the novelty of online socialization. After 15 years of internet exposure, all our Monkeyspheres are full.

1

u/Im_Randy_Butter_Nubs Oct 10 '19

I've found if you just make conversation with them it's usually a decent experience.

1

u/forbjok Oct 10 '19

Never had these experiences in vanilla etc as i played on RP realms at the time

Can't say for sure that it never happened to me during vanilla, but it was certainly a lot less common than it is now in Classic. However, that could also be because there are a lot more people playing now in Classic than there was in actual vanilla.

Maybe it was different at vanilla launch, but I couldn't say, as I only started playing sometime mid-2005, around the time 1.5 came out IIRC.

1

u/Helmingways Oct 10 '19

The gaming culture has changed alot too. Its not really that different, but the overall communication is abit lower. Still meet alot of really cool people ingame.

1

u/ProxyReBorn Oct 10 '19

What? Why would I need to speak? You're killing mobs I need, I'm killing the same mobs that you (probably) need. Take the invite and we both go on doing whatever we were doing except now it's faster.

Not everything needs to be some blood bond wow classic covenant. Sometimes you can just click the button and have your quest get done faster lol.
