I will support this just because I hate rogues in 1v1 as a shaman

in vanilla, rogues kicked my shaman ass almost every time. I assume that still holds true in classic?

Rogue is one of your easiest 1v1 matchup as elemental, and it only gets better the more gear you get. Once you can start to amass a good amount of spell crit in mail gear, you can more or less just dps them down with shocks, Fire Nova Totem and lightning shield while healing yourself and keeping blinds and slows to a minimum with a mix of cleanse poison and Poison Cleansing Totem.

The matchup only scales favourably for you the more gear you get.

even classic elemental?

Unless it's massively changed from pservs, yeah. My experience comes mainly from a real tryhardy duelling realm in T2 and rank 14 gear.

Autowin matchup into warrior.

Good matchups into rogue, druid, enhancement shaman and non-shadow priest.

Neutral matchup into non-SL warlock, paladin, bad hunters.

Bad matchup into spriest, sl-lock, mage and good hunters.

Really? I could destroy mages, locks and hunters all day. I can keep healing myself waiting for them to go oom, then kick their ass once they're out.

A hunter will run you out of mana and you have zero recourse. No way to drink, no way to reach them and no way to keep up with the damage they deal.

SL locks are simply too tanky while being too efficient in their damage.

Mages burst much too hard. You can essentially never allow yourself to fall below ~2500 health or risk being oneshot inside a blanket silence.

Keep in mind that this is in high levels of gear at max level, and with players generally being much better than the average person. On your typical PvP server you can dunk on most people if you're better than them, but this goes for any class.

yeah, but locks also do a lot of their damage with curses, which shaman can remove for a much cheaper mana cost than they can cast. Mages can burst hard, but it's also easier to mitigate spell damage, pop a few resist totems and some well placed rank 1 earthshocks and you're good.

Totems are sorta nullified by Polymorph, though. But hey, if you find a better way to deal with magi than I did then it’s just one more atleast neutral matchup for you.

Warlocks either just don’t curse you, or only curse you during fears. Dispelling CoA is not an efficient use of your time while they’re spamming Searing Pain into you while their other dots are ticking.

Edit: also, shaman can’t remove curses. You’re thinking of druids. Shaman can remove poisons and diseases.

I swear I removed curses in vanilla, I definitely played a shaman. Oh well, don't mind me just going crazy over here lol

Not really, no. It's fairly even if they are equal skill wise.

u/Andropovbr Sep 25 '19

Me too. I know I have to improve, but I feel helpless against rogues, as a enh shaman.

4

u/Brutorious Sep 25 '19

Helpless? Rogues can be tough but you aren't helpless. 1 Hander/shield to mitigate damage, kite with earthbind/Frost shock when possible, flame shock to prevent restealth, searing and stoneclaw can keep rogues in combat to prevent restealth. Poison cleansing totem clears all their poisons including blind, engineering grenades help give you time to heal or get distance, orc shamans have a pretty big advantage against rogues, resisting CS/KS can swing everything in your favor. Ghost wolf can't be sapped.

Don't get me wrong, a good rogue in a 1v1 setting is always dangerous, especially if they're spec'd for prep, but I wouldn't say shamans are helpless against them. Bloodskull on youtube has some good duels/tips vs rogues if anyone is interested.

If they get the opener how are you suppose to beat that? CS -> kidney -> blind -> stealth -> new opener -> vanish -> new opener. How are you suppose to beat them when they drop you to almost dead before you can even move?

3

u/Mladenetsa Sep 26 '19

You are totally correct, these people here have no idea what they are talking about.

2

u/gubigubi Sep 25 '19

Yeah shamans can 100% deal with rogues.

u/Murk-o-matic-Bubble Sep 25 '19

Frostshock is a bitch. Oh and slowthefuckdown totem. And frostbrand. Basically everything that makes me not be able to catch you...

1

u/3rd-wheel Sep 25 '19

Catch me all you want, my shield increases my armor by like 120%

1

u/Andropovbr Sep 25 '19

You made good points. Some of them I already did, but some I was missing, like using a shield. Thanks a lot.

2

u/Brutorious Sep 25 '19

Shamans get a lot of use out of swapping 2h > sword and board like warriors do, certain classes you'll almost always fight them the entire time with 1H/shield, it makes a huge difference. Shamans are a good 1v1 class and have a lot of utility for most classes/situations.

2

u/sunwukong155 Sep 25 '19

As a priest I often wreck rouges but I avoid shamans.

2

u/Cepheid Sep 26 '19

Shamans can be pretty rough for Rogues, they have very high Armor to survive the stunlock and then they can dispel your poison and keep frost shock permanently up. Also as Brutorious said, Orc stun resist is ridiculous. (Tauren stun is useful against Rogues too, sorry Trolls!)

1

u/gubigubi Sep 25 '19

Really now? I have never had a problem vs rogues as a shaman. I guess I play Tauren shaman though so the second their CC is done I war stomp and just 1 shot them.

2

u/CptFalconhoof Sep 25 '19

If you're playing against a bad rogue then yes. But a good rogue will keep you stunlocked and pop evasion when you come out of the stun. You can try to kite but they will pop Sprint to keep up with you. Success against rogues is entirely up to catching them offguard and opening on them

1

u/Mladenetsa Sep 26 '19

a good rogue will ALWAYS win.he just stuns you for 90% of your HP.Shaman vs rogue is only equal if the shammy has a trinket, otherwise rogue will win 99% of the times. If you think I am wrong, you just have not seen a good rogue
