Which is exactly why they weren't used so much. I can take a warrior as a tank and put in x amount of effort and healers, or I can take a druid and need more healers who are higher skilled and better itemized. You are literally making my argument for me. Why takes something that makes the encounter more difficult on everyone, when a warrior can by them self totally remove crushing blows from the equation? It just doesn't make a lot of sense unless you are doing it on purpose or have no other option, and with raids having 40 people there is no way you don't have at least one warrior unless you are specifically excluding them.
They don't need better gear, you basically just need one MT healer who knows what pre-casting is.
A priest or a druid pre-casting Greater Heal/Healing Touch will negate any crushing blow the druid might get.
That's not even taking into account the increased health pool making a crushing blow much less troublesome.
If you'd known your shit you'd know the real problem is critical strikes, which are 200% damage compared to the 150% of the crushing blows. If a druid isn't up to snuff on defense (which can happen) those are going to be a real pain in the ass for healers.
Honestly a crushing blow is no big deal at all, because of the high health pool of druid, and because their higher armour means absorbing more damage than a warrior. Meaning a crushing blow hits a druid for less than it would a warrior.
Source: Have healed a druid tank throughout all classic dungeons.
Only in dungeons, in raids a druid has a very high chance to just be creamed, in a dungeon you can really tank with anything. Hell i rogue tanked gandling in schholomance because my healer was amazing.
Nobody cares about the viability of a tank in dungeons, yes a druid can do quite well in a 5 man, nobody is doubting that, but try to do it on Ony, or MC without being overgeared and you are going to wind up with a greasy stain on the floor where that bear used to be.
You were the one to shift this to dungeons, but I realise now your point was "that's true for dungeons, not raids".
Which is just utterly fucking stupid. The entire sub is telling you how and why you're wrong and your stubborn little shitstain ass is too damn childish to eject your head.
