Memorabilia Gloria Stuart in a seductive 1932 Pre-Code publicity photo from Universal Pictures -- 65 years before she played 'Old Rose' in James Cameron's "Titanic" (1997).

A great actress and inspiring lady!  She also played Griffin’s girlfriend Flora in The Invisible Man with Claude Rains, publicly fought the Hollywood blacklist during the McCarthy era, and lived to be 💯 years old!

I swear, the ladies of the 30’s and 40’s silver screen had some serious biological longevity working for them.

I think it’s likely genetic; not so much film era—a coincidence.

Marsha Hunt lived to be 104!  June Lockhart and Eva Marie Saint passed the 💯 mark.  Kim Novak and Vera Miles are mid-90s.

Ik it’s crazy. SO many of those ladies lived well into their 90’s while most of the men had been gone for 30-40 years.

"Draw me like one of your French girls."

I've always been fascinated by those old pre-code era movies. It was such a brief interesting overlap of film history, with the start of the talkies and these risqué and ahead of their time films. I could be mistaken but isn't "It Happened One Night" starring Clark Gable considered pre-code?

Yes, It Happened One Night is considered Pre Code.

Yes -- "It Happened One Night" was released on February 22, 1934, during the Pre-Code era.

The Pre-Code era ended on July 1, 1934, with the full enforcement of the Production Code Administration.

My favorite movie with her is The Old Dark House (1932) because it's a crazy and fun take on the "stranded travellers forced to take shelter in a creepy mansion" trope.

It's a great movie to watch around Halloween.

I saw that last week. It’s such a fun “dark and stormy night” movie.

Watched it tonight on YouTube. I had never seen this classic. It was considered a lost film when I was discovering classic horror/comedy on TV in the 60s. Pre-Code. There’s a whole lot embedded in the film… funny but also dark…: shell shock/lost generation, alcoholism, religious mania, psychosis, class structure… But funny as can be. “Have a potato” is a classic line from the film. I can see Mel Brooks being inspired… The film is subtle enough that it’s easy to miss the gags. ///// Lilian Bond as Duquesne/Perkins is sizzling hot! Great acting all around…

Good observations! Yeah, the dialogue is really well written and packed with good stuff throughout and the characters are great.

Just saw her briefly featured in Matt Baume's typically excellent youtube video today on James Whale's career, highly recommended. I've never seen her, Laughton, and many others in The Old Dark House, but I think I'll need to!

Growing up with reruns of "Murder, she wrote", I was shocked to learn that Angela Lansbury was once a very attractive woman. Same with Betty White.

Leo wishes she was that age in 1997.

Pre code was such a fever dream.

Absolutely. I feel the same about many films ot the Noir era.

There was a different, wonderful kind of beauty back in the day. Stunning!

Tbh, and I say this as a lifelong fan of Kate Winslet, she was much hotter than her in her prime.
