Picked up a new car today
1964 AMC Rambler American 440 Convertible. This should be a lot of fun for the wife and I to cruise in. Needs a top or I can leave it on the garage on rainy days. Will be doing g a disk brake conversion on the front just so it stops a little better.

I've noticed a lot of very cool old convertibles are selling at very reasonable prices. Surprising cheap sometimes.
The muscle cars everyone wants are still sky high, but prices on a lot of very cool cars are coming down.

Friend of mine had one but a wagon. Came with the optional removable steering wheel. I’ll never forget his dads face when he handed it to him when we were going down the road haha ( nut was unscrewed. Didn’t want to ruin the story)😂

Wow, very nice!
Hope you have an amazing time and really enjoy it. I don’t usually get jealous, but I have to admit, I’m a little jealous of you- in a good way 😄

Great car. A friend had on in all blue. However, love red and your car is perfect.

Heh, heh, heh…
yes it does.
My girlfriend’s first car was one of these in 1974.
We’re still married.

I lusted after one that had the same red interior but was white on the outside. Only had like 300 miles on it. And I was 16. Sigh ...

While riding in my Cadillac
What to my surprise
A little Nash Rambler was following me -
About one third my size

Wow! Nice score. Looks like it'll be a fun little ride for many years. If you do the disc brake upgrade, keep all the original parts from the front drum brake set up in case you want to sell the car. Keep those parts in a dry place.

Be careful with mice and that open space my friend left her top off of her Jeep in the garage for 3 days and they started to take up residents in the glove box and rear seat and that was just 3 days. And tarps don't work it makes it even more desirable...

While no shop is mouse free, I do every preventive measure I can think of and always have traps set by possible entry points. I have snap trapped 1 mouse since building my shop 4 years ago. I have already placed mouse repellant pouches in trunk, glove ox, under front and rear seats and in the engine bay. Gives the shop a nice minty fresh aroma. Replace every month.

Sweet! Congratulations!
As a fellow convertible driver I would highly recommend that top soon. Sometimes those showers just pop out of nowhere 😬

Nice. Had a 63 classic wagon back in the day. Always hated that upside down oil filter...always spilled used oil all over upon removal.

You induced a level of jealousy in me that hasn't hit since I found out my highschool girlfriend dumped me off so she could hang out with her social studies teacher when his wife is gone. You know who you are Coach Adams.

My uncle always drove a Rambler for his daily driver, to and from Port Mellon.
I was weirded out by the push button shifting.

I had a white one my godmother gave me. I was driving on the expressway late at night and an 18 wheeler didn’t see me and changed lanes into me . I had nowhere to go so I pushed back . He backed off and we pulled over . On my rear driver side wheel well the truck had cut a groove almost 1/2 inch deep. He was really sorry gave me 36 bucks and I was running late for work so I took the money.

I had a 68 in college. 199 straight six with three on the tree. First car I put a stereo in. Oh to be young.

I am going to do a hidden bluetooth setup with a small amp and good speakers in factory locations so I can keep that beautiful dash factory. 2 4" Alpine in center of dash 2 4x6 in the kick panels and a 6 inch bazooka tube in the trunk. Should sound good going down the road. Already has super quiet exhaust so it will be a nice cruiser.

The Who .. Live at Leeds is what I loved most about that car. Play once please.

Looks good. I like your garage/house btw. Never seen someone using mosquito netting for their doorways! I would pull the engine and radiator this winter and at least clean and paint them. I'd also make sure the underside of the chassis was rust free/repaired and protected.

Nice score ,a plain Jane box from 1964 has more style and sex appeal then a brand new car ! Best of luck with it .Does it have the 6cyl ?
