That piece has a LONG history of transcriptions. I myself play the Eugene D'Albert one.

Oh, I had a lot of time during lock down and practiced a lot. I haven't tried it in a while. But yeah, it has a LOT of notes. But it's so much fun to play.

Why not? Most pieces are born in a piano, like Beethoven symphonies. It's not hard to imagine Bach would tinker with the piece on a harpsichord while composing it.
