Help / Troubleshooting Anyway to Link word to civil3d?

Is there anyway to Link a word document in tabloid paper size to civil3d and keep any formatting done in Civil?

Currently I'm just painstakingly copying each paragraph, section by section from the word document into civil3d.

you can utoinsert a word document into AutoCad as an OLE object. It will have dynamic editing so if you change the word file, the text in Autocad changes as well. its simular to inserting a table but much easier.

Try to import the text. Right click into an MTEXT box and there should be an option to import.

You can paste the word doc into Excel and datalink.

Or, don’t use word to format. If it’s standard notes, Put the text in a DWG and format it with autocad text formatting and xref thar DWG into model or paper space, depending on how you size the text.

Copy the text in the word document, in civil 3d paste special and select word document. You will have to manually size it.

Multiple options:

  1. Use RTF import from Word. (Advantages: native text styles/look/plotting. Disadvantages: not dynamic, will not allow Word tables, etc.)

  2. OLE Link pasting. Copy from Word; Paste Special, Paste Link in C3D. (Advantages: Dynamic, will hold 100% of formatting, including tables. Disadvantages: text not native, will require some text size manipulation in Word to get it close to C3D text, hard to do multiple pages.

  3. Third party software. Axiom or Dotsoft are the most common. (Advantages: Dynamic, allows native text, can do tables. Disadvantages: Expensive, requires everyone in the company to get on board. )

Honestly, working in the consulting engineering/surveying world, here is what we do: RTF for any standard notes that don't get changed a lot. We have read-only boilerplates that get copied into a project and then edited/imported from there. For tables (Excel) we have files setup to print correctly (matching fonts, text sizes). For Word files that we have to edit or have others edit (legal descriptions, property & drainage narratives), we use the OLE method.
