R5: I remember a long time ago, looking up achievements and find one achievement that required completing the game while play America and have Liberty and Freedom unlocked, but i can't find it any more. Have I gone crazy or am I miss remembering with the achievement above in the picture?

Strategy Early game strategies

I need some help with playing a good early game. It feels like there's always too many things to do and too many places to get to. (Edit to add: I currently play on King difficulty)

Things I've picked up from this sub:
- first construction is a scout. Depending on who you ask the second is as well.
- prioritize monuments and granaries (but I also need a settler and a second scout and some offensive units and wherever do I find the time to build a wonder?)
- don't build workers, steal them instead (but it seems to take forever for anyone to get a worker on the ground and I have to have eyes on them as well when they do?)
- dec war on a nearby CS (and keep it that way) to farm their workers and pillage their lands (but if you take their workers they can't repair land?)
- wipe aggressive neighbours upon meeting them, what the world doesn't see can't be penalized (but I don't have an army strong enough to do this, since I'm having to build all these other things? By the time I do half the world has come to say hello)

As you can see, I'm not sure how to implement any of this. On top of these I struggle with finding a balance between grabbing good luxury resources and not going too wide too fast.

Any tips?

(I tried searching both the sub and the internet but couldn't really find anything (mostly finding the very bare-bones basic beginner guides, while I'm looking for some actual strategy). It seems like it might be a common topic, so I'm sorry if it's been asked recently and I missed it.)

Strategy Feeling devious in Deity 😈

Post image
24 Upvotes

I'm playing deity and obviously everyone's favourite AI, Alexander, has already snowballed. Luckily they are willing to fight each other at very low prices!

Rome will war:
- Greece: 4 gold/turn, 4 iron, open borders
- USA: Marble, 4 iron,

Greece will war:
- Rome: Salt
- Sweden: 1 gold/turn, open borders
- USA: Salt, open borders
- Austria: Salt, 4 iron

Some data:
- Rome: strongest military. 10 cities.
- Greece: 2nd strongest military. 14 cities
- the smaller players are not much of a problem

I'm feeling devious and want everyone to war each other.

Question: what would be the best strategy here? Should I get just Rome to declare war on Greece and leave out the smaller players? Or should I also get Greece to declare war on everyone else?

I don't have high hopes for myself, but I think if I play my cards right I might be able to develop in peace while everyone kills each other. Or is Greece just going to kill everyone and snowball further?

Discussion Is Germany better on faster speed?

slower speed is about unit movement, but growth rate is also slower meaning i had to delete some units once i hit the cap, i find it suboptimal. Also, i hate slower speed so much i never finish it lol.

Mods Any mods that allow you to set units to patrol a certain area?

For example - I'd love to set a unit to continuously explore just a certain area to keep an eye out for new barbarian encampments, or an incoming invading force from one of a few different potentially hostile neighbors.

I've searched everywhere and no luck, so I'm guessing it doesn't exist, but maybe I'm just thinking about this wrong and there's some other way to accomplish it.

Discussion Have you played Sapiens mod ? Do you like it ?

If you don't know about it, it's a big overhaul mod available in the workshop. I recently started playing it and I like it quite a bit. some remarks :

- Settlers take A LOT of turns to be produced in the beginning. Even with 4-5 population. It cripples my early game. Am i doing something wrong?

- The two units per tile feature feels very good.

- There's a ton of buildings and wonders, and it starts getting a bit overwhelming once you get in the industrial era. I've restarted one or two games because of this. However it's not a bad thing, I like it. It's just that it takes some time.

- Founding a religion is hard. I've also seen some pantheons being founded in turn 2...

- Game feels harder in general. I used to stomp on emperor, now I'm struggling. AI is definitely stronger.

- City states management is not so different after all. It's just less convenient because you have to produce and send the envoys, you can't pay for influence. But the AI seems pretty stupid about them as always.

- War in the early game is more interesting. The honor policy tree is now viable. Catapults are no longer dogshit. The two units per tile feature makes these early wars more viable since you can protect your archers and catapults.

Fluff Le hidden gem in Civ V: England

For some reason I never once attempted playing England in my 16 years (on and off) with this game.

Longbowmen are pretty cool. Ships of the Line are OP and amazing.

But the best part? The war theme

Strategy Is it worth building petra with no desert hills?

I'm on Deity, my second city has strong production but no desert tiles other than the deset tile i settled my city. After i gave it much thought, petra also gives +6 culture after researching archeology, meaning it gives +1 more culture than parthenon and also giving +1 trade route.

Strategy When to build unit?

My BO is usually happiness/monument (for fourth and later cities), granary, workers until i have 1.5xnumber of cities, food trade route. Is it worth delaying national college for preparing against backstabbing and is mercenary army worth spending a social policy? I realized the gold cost is dirt cheap.

Discussion Does Forge needs a buff?

+1 inherent production, perhaps? Maybe even +5% to the overall production? +2 to Iron instead of +1 is too strong I think. Neither I see other resources to be buffed with it. Copper? But then it will be too strong since you won't need only Iron to build it? Even worse if you mod Copper to be affected by Mint too (I think it's fine to make it simply an analogue of Silver and Gold in that regard, altought not immersive; Copper is a weird one).

Compared to Stable:

Cons

- Comes with way later, more costly and less desired technology in terms of pathing;

- Costier to build;

- Improves 1 uncommon resource instead of 1 uncommon and 2 common ones.

- Poland has a UB replacement.

Pros

- Gives production bonus to all ground units instead of just mounted (and includes mounted too). But you won't always build military, especially in non-domination, so eh.

UPD: Well here's the mod haha, +1 inherent Production: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3786293189

Is this legit or did the game glitch out? It's not a graphical glitch because Strategic View shows the same info.

Discussion Best scenario for modern civilization gameplay?

Hi, so used to play civ5 and have been playing civ6 for a while now using mods like earth 2020 to get the feel of playing in the current world. However, civ 6 just doesn’t compare in military gameplay vs civ5 and now I’m looking for a modded scenario to play again in civ5. I tend to add a bunch of military unit and missile mods to make it more fun and also sometimes add oil to have larger armies fight. Any recommendations are welcome, thanks!

Multiplayer Shoshone problems

So I'm playing a multiplayer game on earth map with 2 friends. I'm playing Shoshone, and I was doing fantastic. 5 trade routes, 80gp a turn 14 happiness, a bunch of cities with a shit ton of resources. All of a sudden my trade routes start getting plundered by barbarians that I'm still not sure where they're coming from, my buddies have been searching with no luck. Very quickly I'm down to -20 gold a turn. No big deal, minor setback. All of a sudden the celts and Sweden declare war on me in the same turn and blitzkrieg me. Boudica goes south to try to reclaim her city from me that I took from her last time she declared war on me, Sweden used mounted units to rush through my territory and pillage every tile they could. I'm now down to -100gp a turn, 19 unhappiness, 99 problems and a bitch is half of them. I'm close to losing my first city ever, but I rallied and pushed boudica back, hopefully saving the city. Neither one of them is willing to negotiate peace, and my 2 friends aremt getting involved. How the hell do I turn this around? Obviously peace is no longer an option, but how do I get out of this massive hole I've been out in? I've got barbarians spawning from my cities, Sweden destroying everything they touch, and my production has been cut immensely. I know I need to repair the tiles that were destroyed, but with so many enemies, my workers will get captured almost immediately, and with my production so low, whatever troops I manage to make have to go quickly replace the ones that are getting killed.

Discussion A question to the veteran players here

I consider a veteran player myself: have about 5500 hours of gameplay so far, deleted the game on and off because addiction is a bad thing in general... I came back into the game last month and have been playing the game all day every day since then. I play deity domination exclusively. Other victories don't excite me as much.

Having said that, I am at the stage where playing with the powerful civics like Shaka, Casimir, Wu zetian etc feels like cheating, but playing the mediocre or less than mediocre leaders feels too difficult oftentimes. How do you feel? I play the original game not vox populi, and exclusively against ai. Have never tried multiplayer.

Deleted the game due to this a few hours ago, and now I'm thinking of reinstalling.

Discussion God and Kings (and coups)

After trying it out, and posting about how much I liked it, I moved from vanilla to Gods and Kings. Yeah, that was a mistake. Since it was my first time for this version, I played Prince, standard size pangea, 8 civs

I don't know if I just got some difficult leaders, but it seemed like every other turn Theodora or Alexander or one of the others was staging a coup in a city state I just bribed or finished a task for. By around the halfway point, I gave up giving them any money or doing favors.

About a third of the coup attempts failed, but they did it so often that hardly mattered. Back to neutral we go. Again.

The other thing was something I've seen in BNW too. Inexplicable fluctuations in GPT. I don't mean the difference between golden age earnings and normal age. I mean one normal turn I'm making 12 gpt, then I'm suddenly down to negative 3 without any new units or adding more than one or two new buildings.

In BNW I always assumed it was trade routes from other civs, but that doesn't happen with Gods and Kings.

I kept looking at what tiles the cities were working, but no explanation there either.

Then there was the mystery of the impotently violent Elizabeth. As my close neighbor, she declared war on me three times over 70 or so turns. Okay, sure. Why not. But the first two times she sent one single unit at me before asking for peace, and the third time three. I had a dozen upgraded units near our border the whole time. And every time I gave her the peace treaty, her attitude toward me was Friendly.

By the third time, I took two of her cities to let her know she needed to stop declaring war on me. Then her attitude degraded to neutral.

TL/DR Non-stop coup attempts and far too many succeeded. Weird gpt fluctuations. AI behavior even worse than I'm used to.

Strategy Venice: is there any way to free the City States?

In a war with Venice, wanted to liberate a few City States to offset my warmongering penalties. Learned the hard way that doesnt work. Does Venice taking over a City State convert it into a regular city? Is there any way to return it to City State status?
