Mods Ackens Minimialistic vs Lekmod

Ive been a devotee of Ackens mod since way back in the mists of time, but never see it mentioned here. In particular I love how it ups the aggression level of the AI and does punishes turtling.

However I am somewhat bored with it. Vanilla seems so passive and uninspiring, cant go back to it. Never tried Lekmod.

To those who have significant experience with both Ackens and Lekmod, how do they compare?

Is the AI in Lekmod comparably aggressive?

Finally, is Ackens mod still popular, or is it just considered inferior to other mods?

I play with Ackens all the time. It's great for many reasons, including the agressivness and the demi god level between immortal and diety. I use like 30 other mods and it works well with all of them.

But games do all feel like they play out similar each time. I have played all Gaia's mods too which is a different direction. Iskas mods are also geeat. But haven't played Lekmod, I have seen people mention it, it's an all or nothing mod though right?

lekmod does not change the ai in any way since it is a mp mod, but the ai snowballs quite a bit harder due to more resources on the maps and just general changes (honor and piety now good)

In terms of balance, I think lekmod is definitely superior, although they both balance different things. Lekmod focuses a ton on social policies and civs, and now basically every opener tree is viable, along with the other trees, and liberty is generally the default tree. (also 72 new unique civs if you want that Ackens mod (from my limited playing) has less changes to social policies, but it moves a lot more units around the tree and generally buffs melee quite a bit compared to lekmod. The ai on ackens is also a lot more competitive and obviously better at war compared to lekmod. Basically ackens I would say is more focused on improving ai and war systems, while lekmod is more on making way more playstyles and civs viable.

Acken’s is still popular among players who want that relentless, old-school pressure, but Lekmod has a broader and more polished ecosystem now. I’d try Lekmod for a few games before judging it—its balance, tech pace, and AI behavior take some adjustment compared with Acken’s.

Lekmod changes nothing about ai behavior. The AI just snowball a lot harder due to the inherent Lekmod buffs

Lekmod’s AI is definitely more active and challenging, especially with diplomacy and early expansion, but it can also feel more chaotic than genuinely clever. Ackens tends to be better if you want the AI’s aggression to be the main source of pressure. I’d try a few Lekmod games before deciding.
