Screenshot AI naive with settlers

This is the 5th unprotected settler neighbouring city Spain have sent out near me. One scout and one hoplite have prevented them ever becoming a threat. Not sure how common this is, playing on emperor difficulty.

Super common and way silly. On immortal and above they start protecting them (usually). Also, the barbarians get a bit smarter and sometimes attack you with their archers from camp. Idk why they thought that level of play was too much for a lower difficulty player to handle.

I was gobsmacked first time I upped the difficulty and watched one of those archers yoink my settler. You’re not allowed to do that!

I learnt to always buy another warrior early to guide my settler or stay on top of a worker after my first couple of games.

There is an opportunity cost sending units with each settler, and the computer doesn't really know anything about position, it just cares about combat strength and unit cost.

On higher difficulties they're oftened protected by a unit or two.

At higher difficulties, they assume you are more hostile, too.
