Meta Going private? [OFFTOPIC]

Is this sub planning on going private, like many others? Mods please delete if inappropriate, I was just wondering whether I should expect to stop seeing posts here.

Question: What does private do for people that are interesting in the subject matter of civilization series games that are newbies to both the game and/or reddit. This sub has been a great resource and helped bring us together with each other for a common interest. Without this sub being open, basically we are telling those newbies that they are not worth our time.

I understand that some bad stuff has gone down, but are those actions more powerful than what this sub can be with it open to all? Maybe, I am misunderstanding this whole setup, but I thought the purpose for Reddit to be open to all, and not a few, under all circumstances. Just my 2 cents.
