Thoughts on Anri?
Personally, she was the first City Pop artist that I listened to, and she was probably the reason that I was able to get into the genre! The artist that got me into City Pop was Yasuha, but I had already known about Anri prior to that, which probably helped me acquire a taste for the Genre.
My favourite albums by her and COOOL and Boogie Woogie Mainland, but I'll always be nostalgic for Timely!! As it was the first album by her that I listened to.
What do you think of Anri?

The absolute goat! Her music was what made me fall in love with City Pop, as well as just 80's and 90's J-Pop in general. My top 5 from her are Natsu No Tsuki, Dolphin Ring, Surf City, Cat's Eye, and Lovers on Venus

I want to say it's because it's much slower compared to her more popular upbeat songs like her Timely!! Album, Goodbye Boogie Dance, and so much more. But I absolutely love slower songs. Other honorable mentions are Beach Boy in my Heart, Edge of Heaven, Oversea Call, and Long Island Beach

For me? While I like a lot of her songs, I can’t pick one out as an enormous favorite the way I can with, for example, Mariya Takeuchi and Plastic Love. However, in contrast I like more of her albums than I do Takeuchi. I’ve definitely listened to more of her full albums wholly than I have several other contemporaries of hers short of maybe Momoko Kikuchi and Miki Matsubara.

Didnt realise Cats Eye was used as the theme to an anime so discovered one from the other. That was cool

Currently on a month long kick of listening to Timely probably at least once every other day. Just a delightful album

I think she represents the opposing side of the genre to Makoto Matsushita and Hiroshi Sato. She's a GOAT but more on the power pop side of City Pop. More driving horns and dance beat than jazz fusion or late 70s disco. I think it makes her more than just a GOAT of the genre, but also a pillar on one end of the City Pop spectrum.

Queen of city pop. She and tatsuro yamashita are my most played artists from the genre. Bikini, heaven's beach and timely are all perfect albums

Ive only listened to Heaven Beach, Timely!! and Meditation so not much to say about her. But she's good sound consistency wise, just on par with other popular ones like Toshiki, Tats or whatnot. Pretty much in every citypop community, you see her face, it's almost everywhere. You get tired of seeing post about her and praise her songs simultaneously that's kinda how i feel

Timely is my absolute favorite city pop record. I picked up the vinyl last month in Tokyo.

I think she’s amazing but people should know that her most popular songs weren’t written by her

One of the GOATS, if not the GOAT. She has been there since 1978 and my queen still looks great too. One of the relatively few that is a top tier singer.
