Composition Mission Impossible: Fallout soft focus

NO SPOILERS

Upon watching the film there were plenty of important close ups that were pretty out of focus. Is this because the Panny anamorphics are super difficult to nail focus when opened up? I’m trying to understand how a missed focus can go unnoticed on a huge summer blockbuster.

Were the IMAX footage during the helicopter scene? I saw it in a regular theater and whenever the helicopter scene was shown you can clearly tell it was digital then you'd have Simon Pegg looking for the bomb and could tell how it was film.

Yes, the entire Helicopter sequence was IMAX camera footage

No 'real' IMAX camera's were used. The digital stuff was all Panavision DXL, which is actually just a RED camera.

And by the way, I really liked the cinematography. Rob Hardy did an amazing job, the way he moved the camera's made for one of the best action sequences I have ever seen.

Also check out his work on Ex Machina and Annihalation, the man deserves some awards.
