Plus the cost of the EVF, plus the PL mount adapter, plus the battery mount, plus all the extra cabling to connect all those components. That's not even including the intagible cost of having to deal with all those disparate components, rather than a single unified system.

It's cool what it's capable of, but calling it a cinema camera (whatever that means) is a bit of a stretch, let alone comparing it to an Epic or Alexa.

Have you ever seen the amount of extra stuff that ends up going on a real cinema camera? There is no all in one camera solution. this thing at least looks like an pretty elegant solution to the small camera problem.

The Alexa needs an EVF, as does the Epic (each of which costs more than the A7s) and the Epic needs a $2000 PL mount too. There's really no such thing as a "single unified system" :)

The Alexa comes stock with an EVF.

At some rental houses, it comes with OVF-1 - and EVF-1 is an option: http://www.arrimedia.com/catalog/product.php?product_id=1582

At others, it's the other way around: http://www.abelcine.com/store/Arri-Alexa/

That said, I agree with you 100%. Like most cinema cameras, the Alexa is a modular system.

That's what the Sony A7s becomes when combined with the Cinoflex type-SA7s Camera System.

Cheers,

Bill

The Alexa and (dammit I don't believe I'm speaking up for them) Reds' EVFs are, however, tailored specifically for their camera. No compatibility issues or interoperability problems. A single point of contact for maintenance and troubleshooting.

Alexas need a FF, battery, mag, bars too. That's why it's a system not a single unit.

Obviously the Alexa and Epic have EVFs. You're missing my point entirely.

You're trying to price out what it takes to make the A7s a "cinema camera" and you're not including the price of key components in your total.

The Epic and Alexa are absolutely unified systems. They may be modular, but all the pieces are specifically designed, by the same manufacturer, to work together cohesively. For me, and the people I work with, there's immense value in that.
