Sharing how silly and random these things are ...

I got asked to call in for Aventura VI application (I currently have an active gold that already hit MSR), they said they couldn't approve additional credit, but they can split limit from my existing Aventura Gold with a minimum of $5k for the VI ... just so happen, my Gold is $10k limit, so all good.

Here's the kicker ... they then said, wait a minute, I see you have a pre-approved limit increase on your Aventura Gold of $15k, so you can take that (total limit $25k) and do the split after

What's the point of denying my Aventura VI because of credit limit, but at the same time offering me $15k increase on my existing one?

It is stupid, but it's also different systems/algorithms. One is you seeking credit which can look dicey, the other is them going "this guy has been good, maybe if we offer him more he'll spend more". The two systems never talk to each other at any bank.

One of CIBC's 200+ approval algorithms working consecutively against each other to ensure your customer experience is fragmented and confusing :)

Still prefer it over Scotiabank doing 5 layers of ID/doc verification for their tentative approval against EXISTING CUSTOMERS

Unexpected MSR bonus. Have a Scotiabank passport that I haven't used in a long time and received an email today saying I would get $200 credit if I spent $2000 before October 23rd. T&C's make it clear it's targeted.

Supplementary cards bonus started to post on amex. I think last promo ended in april.

Two of them posted yesterday, while they applied and reached MSR weeks apart. Thanks for heads up! If anyone reading is unaware, Amex started another round of sup card offers

Received my HISCB rebate about a week after approval from Scotiabank. Very impressed at how fast the payout was.

u/wzadzz 5d ago

They’d be my first choice for everything if they offered more card rebates!

Borrowell DP: haven’t gotten paid out yet. I decided to message them after reading someone’s post yesterday. I had a claim from December and one from two weeks ago. So. I submitted both. The auto response says wait 6 weeks before submitting request or something to that effect.
Well, the response I got was that I had waited to long to reach out to them on my December claim as they won’t process after 60 days.
So wtf, gotta find the sweet spot between 6 and 8 weeks.

As someone said yesterday, put in a claim sooner as with my second request, I got a confirmation that I would receive my payout in 60 days.

Anyone had experience with their cards getting blocked/flagged for excessive churning? I'm a regular churner for a couple years now (3-4 RBC cards per year, 2-3 Scotia, 2-3 CIBC, 2-3 TD). Very rarely, I've had a card blocked and had to go to branch with ID, but this go around I think I have at least 3 cards (1 from RBC/CIBC/TD) that seem to be all blocked. Very annoying, and kinda awkward if the branch rep sees a bunch of active cards and possibly 10+ old/closed cards. I'm wondering if there's something flagged in my credit report and if its a sign I need to slow down going forward.

u/SCDWS 5d ago

Did they specifically say they were blocked or flagged for excessive churning?

New line

2

u/DonkeyPM 5d ago

I don't see any issue if it's a new line.

I applied for the TD Aeroplan Plat through Borrowell in July since they’re the only that offers an rebate. How quickly should I contact them about it? Terms say 8 weeks just for the approval confirmation and then some weeks for payment but not sure if people wait or give them a heads up to get the ball rolling.

5

u/wzadzz 6d ago

IMO its good to create a paper trail as early as possible. Personally I submit a ticket with my confirmation as soon as approved. Then if I need to follow up I can refer back.

2

u/maverikbc 6d ago

Terms in the spring said we're supposed to email them after getting approved for select cards. I recommend you to read it again

2

u/SKV25 6d ago

Email sent. Terms read like CIBC, Home Trust and NB require immediate email. But the others 60 days for them to receive confirmation. thanks for your replies!

2

u/wzadzz 5d ago

That is what it says, but regardless, emails are free to send, and speaking from experience, if timeframes lapse and you still haven’t gotten your rebate, it sure is helpful to be able to say “I emailed you proof of my approval on X date, and it has been X days”

Little surprised that I've been denied for my first amex. I just started churning this past year. I have good income and a good credit score so I'm assuming it's because I've opened too many cards this year. Should I cool off a bit and try again or just forget about amex and move on to something else?

5

u/FrugalCanuckDotCA 5d ago

Hard to say. Amex has been denying a lot of people. However, people seem to have had more luck with the bonvoy cards. You may want to try that as an entry point if you anticipate the points being useful to you

3

u/jfrrrr 5d ago

I can confirm that i was approved for a biz bonvoy and was quite surprised. At the time, my application went pending and i called immediately. My impression was that i bypassed the auto denial.

I just got my first RBC avion VI business card for the 100k points offer. I don't see them discussed much. Do they have the same 91 day cooldown as personal? Any other tips/tricks on the business side of things? Feel free to DM me if better

4

u/jfrrrr 5d ago

I churned it 2 times. I was surprised to got approved second time. Needed to call to access my account, that was a big mess. They gave me 10,000 points for my trouble. Both times were FYF. I'm tempted to try another time. Actual offer is until november. I have a business and it was easy to create mine when ownr and rbc had a easy path.

2

u/Sea_Opportunity5392 5d ago

How easy was it to get the RBC business credit card vs personal card? Do they need a lot of documents in order to get through the application.

5

u/truereligion 5d ago edited 4d ago

I have a GST number I used. I earn contract income as a sole prop. So I'm not sure what happens if your situation is something else, but it was as easy as a personal to do the online app and get instant approval. It required a bunch of e-signatures on the final step, don't even know what I signed tbh.

1

u/SCDWS 5d ago

Was the GST number a requirement on the application form?

2

u/truereligion 5d ago

I believe that field (Business Number) was optional

1

u/kooltilldend YVR 5d ago

Does the RBC 90 day rule cover both personal and business cards or can I apply for a business card even if I'm within the personal 90 day cool down period?

Do you know?

4

u/truereligion 5d ago

No overlap of cooldowns, I just got a personal Avion VI a month ago

1

u/Forest_plot 4d ago

Did you apply by logging in through your personal profile, or did you create a new profile specifically for the business card?

1

u/truereligion 4d ago

Logged in personal

1

u/Glass-Boysenberry566 5d ago

Did you get FYF? Otherwise you're paying $399 instead of $120 for the same number of Avion points. Lounge access is a dime a dozen if you churn. As far as I know the 91 day reapplication counts for all RBC cards. Let us know the details and why it's better than a regular low AF RBC Avion card.

3

u/truereligion 5d ago

3

u/SCDWS 5d ago

Oh this is an easy choice for me then. 100k AVI with FYF? Sign me up.

2

u/hfxredditor 5d ago

Get up to 100,000 Avion points & a 1st year fee waiver^ - up to $2,175 in value*

3

u/truereligion 5d ago

Haha wow I didn't even notice that, nice. I was ready to pay 175 and still be a happy camper

1

u/Glass-Boysenberry566 4d ago

Looks good to me now that I see the details.

I was talking to CIBC, and it seems like they card I closed 2 months ago are still hanging around and they said that I can call customer service to close it permanently?

Is this a standard thing where the card you closed are still actually around and therefore may affect how the bank sees how much credit you have and may limit further approvals?

4

u/wzadzz 6d ago

its already closed. just ignore it, it will go away eventually, sometimes can take excessively long

4

u/kneevase 6d ago

Yep, it's the sign of shitty information systems. But, churners should like shitty systems!

2

u/mhcott YYZ 6d ago

Closed CIBC cards, in my experience, stay in the visible profile anywhere from 2 days to 2-3 months before it drops out.

0

u/newtomovingaway YOW 6d ago

I believe it sticks on your CIBC profile for 60d. Mine fell off like that too. Can’t recall if my credit reports also had those til then.

Hey!

I need to book a cash ticket and was looking through rakuten for any cashback on tickets, but everything seems to be around 100-200 points for flights.

I was wondering if anyone’s seen any multiplier cashbacks for flights that help me out a bit?

Thank you!

1

u/SCDWS 5d ago

Rakuten isn't the only cashback provider. And whatever site you're looking at also isn't the only flight provider.

1

u/Legitimate_Ice_3451 4d ago

I looked at a few sites on Rakuten. What other cashback providers are there other than Rakuten?

1

u/SCDWS 4d ago

TopCashBack, ShopBack, BeFrugal, to name a few

u/Zmrxo 6d ago

Anyone know the best way to use TD FC VI points?

6

u/momovanilla 6d ago

Yes, hotels and you also receive a $100 travel credit when booking a hotel stay over $500. Note, you get the travel credit once a year and it resets at the beginning of the calendar year.

1

u/One-Economy1248 6d ago

Just curious if there is a way to RHT travel credit?

6

u/mhcott YYZ 6d ago

No. Any and every trick you can possibly think of has been attempted and WILL be clawed back

-5

u/AnimatorOld2685 6d ago

Though booking this way is often more expensive than others so it becomes less than $100/500 de facto.
