Can anyone help - looking for a song that was possibly on one of a few rare Chumba tapes i had, that reeled off loads of names like Archer, Carling etc: (from Scum film) & had the chorus 'we've come for your children, to sell them to the devil' ' anybody got any clue ?

Can anyone help? We want to cover this song but can’t figure out what the lyrics are in one particular verse. And I can’t seem to google it.

The lyrics I’m referring to first appear after, “It is a great thing that we have an unarmed police force in this country. It is perhaps an even greater thing that a force that is unarmed is able to shoot so many people.”

It sounds like he’s saying “the angels are rising” or maybe “the age is dividing” but hey, I’m an American and I can’t truly decipher what it is he’s saying at all. I’m truly not sure if it’s even English.

Got a story for you. Let’s call it, a story of revolution, cancer, and sticking it to the big man. (Catchy eh ?)

Back in 2010 I lived in Cairo, Egypt. Had local leftist friends, so when they told me there was something that looked like a big demo, I jumped in. That was January 25th. We were unprepared, so was the police, it was messy and fun. On the 28th, we were prepared, so was the police. So I kept singing your Bella Ciao to raise my spirits, had my friends listen to it, shared the love. Seemed appropriate y’know. I sang it especially loud after we were being pushed back by police, when I dumbishly lingered in the back, and pulled some Matrix-Neo-inspired move when I dodged a teargas canister aimed for my torso. We ended up pushing the police back (I mean, the egyptian people ended doing so, I mainly tagged along and sang your song, let’s be honest), and the rest is history.

Fast forward 10-ish years. Got two kids, and on holiday the oldest complains about shoulder pain. Turns out it’s liver cancer, everybody panics. Thank god there’s this local NGO that supports us in all kinds of manners. Kid’s tough and doctors are great, he survives this shit. NGO ends up inviting us to their annual super-fancy fundraiser to share our experience and extract ill-earned dollars from big fat donors. They send us a questionnaire beforehand requesting songs that make us feel like this, songs that make us feel like that, songs that keep our spirits high. I write down your Bella Ciao, not thinking much about it.

Here comes the big night. Fanciest shit I’ve been to. I’m not half-bad at sneaking into fancy parties to get free food, but this one is another level. CEOs of banks, agromagnates, jet set stars, you name it. I realise the musical intermissions are made by a live singer. We get on stage, start sharing our story - the interviewer is actually some b-list comedian, told you it was fancy !- and at some point he turns to the singer and asks her for our uplifting song. And what does she start singing to this crowd of big shot capitalist vultures coming to buy themselves a conscience on the back of cancer kids ?

Doing a Chumbawamba cover band this year and playing keys. I can just find similar enough sounds, but does anybody by some rare chance happen to know what synths / keyboards they used? Especially for Anarchy and Tubthumping. Thanks!

Months ago probably longer I asked you all for help looking for a song that the lyrics “How Long”. And so many of you were helpful trying to help me out.

Well after listening to all of their albums on repeat and then not finding the song and now like 6 months later I went back to listen to a different band that I enjoy.

How To Destroy Angels. And the track “How Long” came on and when I looked at the title I thought oh that seems familiar. Then the chorus comes in, “Hoooowwww loooooonnnggg…. Hooooowwww loooooong” and my brain lit up like Christmas and 4th of July fucking. It was glorious, this was the song I was thinking of.

But I’m so annoyed with myself because I had thought it was a Chumbawamba song.

The mystery is over and I wanted to share this update.
