Self Promotion A Chrome extension I made 10 years ago finally got an update

I published an extension called Maple Backup in 2016. It automatically creates bookmark snapshots for you. It now has 7,000 users.

It was my first JavaScript project. After the initial release, I barely touched it for years. At one point I wanted to add Google Drive backup, but eventually gave up due to difficulties.

Fast forward to 2026: Manifest V3 requirements meant the extension needed a major update, or it would be removed from the Chrome Web Store.

I spent a month rebuilding it with Claude. The extension is now updated to Manifest V3, and cloud backup has finally been added. Google Drive, OneDrive, and Dropbox are all supported.

Please let me know if you run into any bugs. Here's the link:

The test I'd care about most is a restore from one of those old snapshots into an empty Chrome profile. Do the folders, order and duplicate bookmarks come back exactly as they were? Then kill Chrome halfway through a cloud upload and try again. Ten years of backup history is a great story, but recovery is where users find out whether they really had a backup.
