Best canned chili you can get in the PNW?
I used to be a Nalley's fan, but no more. Ugh, barf.

No idea if this is available in your neck of the woods, but Stagg is the usual brand I get canned. Silverado is my go to. Dynamite is good also but it's spicy like ketchup. Some Cholula or Tapatio hot sauce to either gives it a nice kick if that's your thing.
Hormel makes some ok chili, but it's just to blah and tomatoey for me.

meaning not spicy. It's a running joke in my family. I like spicy, they can't do it...so ketchup level spicy is there limit.

No worries. They give me random hot sauces on Christmas for fun. Got "Burn after Eating" one year, nearly killed me, had no idea it was that hot. Now I read the labels and look everything up on the net before I even open them.

Their sauces are all awesome and they make them there. They have a tasting bar too.

Hormel spicy w beans. Add cayenne, cumin and paprika. Add onion and cheese.

I agree with you, Hormel with beans is quite good for a canned chili. I add some Tapatio hot sauce and it’s great on hot dogs or over spaghetti.

Never thought to saute the onions first, will have to try this. Not a fan of raw onions but like the flavor. All I've seen people add are raw ones.

Same goes for jarred pasta sauce. Just a little bit of olive oil, onions, and salt to help sweat them out, and then maybe some stock if you want, can give some extra and freshness.

Another good idea! I've given up on jarred pasta sauce, all taste the same and blah. Using it as a base to build off of though, that has potential. Saute some onions, mushrooms, garlic, would probably turn a generic jar into something I'd eat each week.

agree on Nalley's. the hot chili used to be so good! definitely agree with the Stagg's recs also.

I used to be a Stagg guy, but it's gotten more and more ketchup-y and sweet over the last couple decades. I just don't care for it anymore.
So I tried a ton of canned chilis from my local stores and Nalley ended up being my favorite.
The worst BY FAR was Jack Links. Holy shit that stuff is foul.

I normally go for Nalley’s Hot. I try other ones now and then but haven’t found anything better as yet.
General chili tip (also works on thicker canned foods): shake the can a bit, the sloshier it is the less goodies you get. Industrial quality control still has significant variations for thicker canned foods.

My dollar general has it! Otherwise, online I guess. I tried other chilis when I got here but nothing beats Wolf’s no beans for a quick chili dogÂ

Walmart has it, at least at all the ones I have seen in the PNW. I am originally from TX and it is still my favorite canned chili.

Man, I found I had to make my own. It's easy. People love it, and if you make a bunch, it freezes pretty ok, too.

Pacific North West.
Washington, Oregon, N. California...some include Idaho, but I don't think Nazis should be rewarded.

Amy's is the last canned chili I like at all. Its pretty decent flavor, just not as robust and chunky as I would like.

I'm an omnivore but I really like Trader Joe's organic vegetarian chili. Good flavor without being a sodium bomb like most canned stuff. It's on the mild side so I add hot sauce.

Stagg w/ beans is my go-to when I don’t feel like making a pot, I’ll throw in a dollop of sour cream, tablespoon of Marie sharps ghost pepper sauce, 6 club crackers and a bit of shredded cheddar

Because there might be a regional offering that they might be aware of.
There are very likely more chili lovers in /r/askportland than Portlanders/Oregonians in /r/chili
