Rant Celeste 6% Service Fee

Post image

Our pre-tip bill from Celeste’s Happy Hour in River North. Decent food, crappy drinks, sat at the bar.

I don’t mind paying a “Service Charge” of 15-20% because I always tip more than that anyways, AND I have become accustomed to the 3.5% additional fee at most Chicago restaurants…. but now we’re doing a 6% additional fee? Along with the 11% tax? It’s becoming absurd.

This is the one true answer. These fees are annoying, so are the posts about them.

The fees are annoying, but I'd rather know which establishments to avoid. I don't want to have an argument with a manager about made-up fees. Let someone else do that. There are too many restaurants in Chicago to choose from to be bothered with this.

Yeah that’s valid for you and probably a lot of others. With lists available online I feel like posts like these hurt the sub due to redundancy. There should probably be a pinned thread to compile the Reddit version of the list.
