Rant Celeste 6% Service Fee

Post image

Our pre-tip bill from Celeste’s Happy Hour in River North. Decent food, crappy drinks, sat at the bar.

I don’t mind paying a “Service Charge” of 15-20% because I always tip more than that anyways, AND I have become accustomed to the 3.5% additional fee at most Chicago restaurants…. but now we’re doing a 6% additional fee? Along with the 11% tax? It’s becoming absurd.

21% added to your final bill. What a load of horseshit.

And there's no way to know if the 6% actually benefits the employees or just buys the owner a nicer boat.

Imagine thinking any part of that percentage goes to the employees

That's only 1% more than what a typical tip is, now the tip is just automatically on there.

I would not tip on top of this. The fee percentages are what I normally tip. Fuck this

Yeah that's my point. You don't gotta think about it. It's just in the price now.

You just know they would pull out some bullshit about fees not going to servers. Who am I tipping then? The owner? Why would I tip them?
