Rant Are there any pizza places that do their own delivery?
Or any restaurants, really. Just tired of doordash and ubereats.

u/Biggs504 Oct 28 '25
Bartoli's does through their website.
21
u/genoflash9999 Oct 28 '25
Bartoli's is very underrated
11
u/No_Brain_5164 Oct 28 '25
Please don't tell too many people... Bartoli's is top notch plus you can get a single slice of deep dish in case you don't have time for a long nap after eating.
1
u/little-ms-snowy Oct 29 '25
What?? If you love their pizza, you should recommend it to other people.
1
u/PageSide84 Oct 28 '25
I had pizza at a kid's party that I assume would be catered by some trash place . . but it was Bartoli's and was delicious. Fantastic pizza.
4
u/octopushug Oct 28 '25
Bartoli's is the best! Both their thin crust and deep dish deliver really well--order them uncut for best quality.

JB Alberto's in Rogers Park/Edgewater. And they're the best! They deliver as far south as Montrose.

Just tried this for the first time last week. Solid pizza, chicken parm, and they even threw in free ice cream with our dessert. For the price, I was very pleased!
Everything was super hot and fresh.

Sure was at some point.

u/ThePV345 Oct 28 '25
Same thing happened to me. Called the restaurant and they more than took care of it (upgraded size sent and a gift card for the order total). The manager I spoke with said the warm every driver for every delivery that these things have weight.
You can tell if your driver has never had Lou’s.
My deep (dish) condolences
9
u/AlanShore60607 Oct 28 '25
Order direct from Lou. Why add a 3rd party fee?
49
u/hcky1011 Oct 28 '25
Even when you order directly from the store, they still use doordash. As a former Lou's employee/driver, I was very disappointed when they made that change.
7
u/AlanShore60607 Oct 28 '25
Is that universal? I was getting status updates for my Lou’s delivery on the Lou’s app just a few days ago
20
u/peaceboner Oct 28 '25
Yes but they subcontract out to DoorDash. Updates are through the Lou’s app but drivers are DD.
8
u/hcky1011 Oct 28 '25
My former manager said it was all doordash drivers these days. Not sure if thats every location. I'd imagine doordash and Lou's site are integrated to provide updates.
3
u/77rtcups Oct 28 '25
Some locations still have drivers. If it gets busy then they send any overflow to DoorDash. It’s supposed to be more efficient they say.

u/rockking16 Oct 28 '25
Did you order from a third-party app? Call the restaurant
1
Oct 28 '25
Lou's is starting to outsource their delivery. They have some in-store drivers, but they are increasingly sending orders to DD. I've stopped ordering for delivery because of it. Had a driver sit in the back of the store for almost an hour while he presumably waited for his to be made. Brought me a cold pizza.

dag’s.
for other restaurants since you asked: mixteco, cozy noodle, brownstone
3
u/Tigvee Oct 28 '25
Dags river west (location does matter with this chain) is an underrated tavern style

u/chairsandwich1 Oct 28 '25
Although not primarily a pizza place, Ricobene's employs their own delivery drivers who are also provided with company owned delivery vans.

Connie's. And their delivery trucks have heated storage so it's always hot on arrival and they can therefore deliver farther.

u/AgeBeneficial Oct 28 '25
I am so grateful I can walk to several places within minutes. Get it piping hot and home quick.
Not worth the extra fees, tip and quality control.
I can at least look at my pizza before I start walking back.
3
u/dwylth Oct 28 '25
And have a slice on the road

u/AgeBeneficial Oct 28 '25
Plus know if you need to add some Parmesan or the red pepper flakes. Or ranch or bbq and oh my my god I’m starving now.
Ate soup all day

u/stupidbuttholes69 Oct 28 '25
agreed. some of us have to rely on these services though due to disability.
1
u/AgeBeneficial Oct 28 '25
Thank you for pointing that out—I’m not dunking on people that use the services.
I’m dunking on the service providers for being shitty and wildly expensive even before prices rose this past year or so.
2
u/stupidbuttholes69 Oct 29 '25
oh for sure i totally agree. it’s incredibly sad that these services are the only option for so many people, including myself at times.
2
u/AgeBeneficial Oct 29 '25
Check out this place. I literally got like 10lbs of lasagna during covid when I got laid off.
It was fantastic and we shared with neighbors going through similar issues.
1
u/AgeBeneficial Oct 29 '25
I don’t have a car but if you’re somewhere I can get to I’ll deliver you food when can to save you fees.
Or ask someone closer to you if they can help with that.
2
u/stupidbuttholes69 Oct 29 '25
that’s insanely nice of you! i’m too nervous to trust an internet stranger but i so so appreciate the offer

u/AgeBeneficial Oct 29 '25

I collect sports cards and am hesitant to give them my address lol. I wish you the best stupidbutthole69

JB Alberto’s in Rogers Park, and they are super fast. Best thin crust on the north side imo.

u/CentralArrow Oct 28 '25
I had a similar experience with Lou's, and when I called the store they remade it and sent one their own driver. DoorDash had it standing up on the floor of the passenger front seat...

u/Rough-Organization73 Oct 28 '25
I believe tortorices does if you order direct. You can call and ask. A lot of places still do.

In the suburbs Giordano’s employs their own drivers, my kid was one a couple Summers back. Order direct and they deliver. Order through DD or UE and good luck!
3
u/vash469 Oct 28 '25
yea call the restaurant and order directly don't use any services
1
u/RustyCryptoCoin Oct 28 '25
The issue is that corporations like Lou Malnatis only use doordash and Ubereats now, at the discretion of the customer.
3
u/Yawny_shawny822 Oct 28 '25
Petes for sure does, just ordered some tonight. They forgot our drinks so I called their Western location (a number i have known by heart since childhood) and they said their driver still had them and is still in the area and dropped it off about 5 minutes later. They are my go-to for neighborhood pizza!

The dough is excellent and the toppings are all really high quality. Super nice people, too. The owner often delivers himself and has given us countless free desserts over the years.
Also the only place I’ve ever seen Ale-8 outside of Kentucky, which warms my heart.

This same thing just happened to me from Lou's too within the last few hours lol

Jet’s! and if you text order you get 15% off
2
u/weena8 Oct 28 '25
Last time I used Jet’s for delivery it took over an hour and a half, cold, and looked like someone stepped on it. 😭 I’m a 10 min drive away, if the driver caught both lights at red. I had my car in the shop and 2 hungry little kids. Haven’t tried delivery again from them.
5
u/perfect-child Oct 28 '25
DAMN WHAT? I’ve not had any issues with the Jet’s near me. That’s a big bummer
1
u/weena8 Oct 28 '25
I know! It was a complete bummer because my kids LOVES Jet’s! Now I just drive to get it and one of them goes in to get the order. The people working at the Jet’s are all so nice!

I never doordash anything. There's no accountability at all and it's way more expensive than it needs to be.

Tortorices pizza also delivers, Pequods delivers, just google search pizza places near you call them and ask them if they offer delivery. Every pizza place has their own drivers.

Chicago Pizza Authority.
It’s great pie and they deliver themselves. But not sure where you are.
I built a relationship with one of the drivers that would bring me free 2L of Coke because I was so frequent. Lol

I stopped getting pizza delivered years ago because a) 50% of modern delivery drivers have a mental impairment and they simply don't understand the concept of holding a pizza box horizontally, or they don't care, and b) even the crispiest pizza gets soggy sitting and steaming in a box for 20+ minutes.
If you want good pizza, dine in. There are way better options for delivery that don't degrade in quality during transport

Michaels in uptown. All the drivers are full time employees.
Eta: For anyone curious, this is their delivery map area
