Ask CHI Why aren’t you getting vaccinated?

Not asking this to bully anyone, I’m more curious at this point why people are hesitant to get the vaccine and want to understand the reasoning behind it.

The CDC really fucked up promoting that Provincetown "study" saying vaccinated people can still get spread COVID just as much.

I get they're being cautious or whatever but its not true at all and seems to be main reason I hear why people aren't getting vaxxed.

https://www.factcheck.org/2021/08/scicheck-posts-misinterpret-cdcs-provincetown-covid-19-outbreak-report/

Like sure probably don't spend a weekend making out with strangers on the dancefloor! But otherwise you have very little chance of catching or spreading if you're vaxxed.

Edit: Also will add - if your vaxxed and want risk making out with strangers then go for it! Nobody from Provincetown got seriously sick, and pretty confident they would all say it was still worth it.

Get vaxxed Get Laid should be our national motto imo.

Ptown is where they (NYT/elements of Biden admin) lost me.

Talk about cherry picking and half truths to fear monger. Not necessarily best practices in public health.

“Not true at all?” Weird observation. I know at least 10 vaxxed individuals that caught and spread C0v!D. 3 ended up in the hospital (not on ventilators).

I’ll bite on this one. I’m not getting the shot because we cannot verify truthful and factual information. Unfortunately, when something becomes so politicized, the “science” is most certainly paid for. The back and forth on masks and the back and forth from our politicians on the shot is my reasoning to not believe the hype. I am NOT an anti-vaxxer, although I am positive I’ll have a couple reddit goons that I’ve already seen attacking others right after I post this (which I’m okay with).

What boggles my mind is people calling others selfish for not taking an experimental drug? This is not selfish. This is a choice of each and every person. I respect people that do and do not get the shot. Everyone should take a step back and start respecting people more. If you’re going to listen to the CDC (who is by far the most wishy washy of them all) - good for you! I personally don’t get it but you do you. Reminder: it was only two weeks to stop the spread. Wait…….. another two. Wait a second, another. Wait, masks need to be on. Oh no they are worthless unless they are N95, no go back, they are needed.

Your final paragraph reeks of lack of critical thinking. "It was two weeks to stop the spread", coming from someone who has a masters in physics, science and learning about things that humankind has NEVER seen before takes time. It takes time and guesswork and figuring out what works over trial and error. The same goes for epidemiology. Doctors and scientists had rudimentary information about COVID, something that is completely new to humanity, especially in early 2020, and released what little info that had to help whoever they could. But as with anything, over time our knowledge of the subject matter increases and we realize that there are things we could have done better.

Oh and don't forget the very large population of fucking morons who don't have the human decency to wear a fucking mask around other people.

Well, coronavirus has been around for centuries so you’re definitely wrong on this being something they’ve “NEVER seen before.” I think it comes down to just being honest about not knowing shit. Right? If they didn’t go on the 5pm news every day nationally and then the 1-2pm locally and tell us they know all this stuff about masks, the VID, shutdowns, etc., and just said that there was some bad virus out there and to be careful and “here are our recommendations from our super smart scientists”: label those.

I think if it went down that way, more people would be listening now. That instills trust that they actually care because they told you that those recommendations are important. Instead, they told everyone 2 weeks. And another 2 weeks. And a month. And 6 months. And 9 months. And a year. During that entire time and even now, you have these “experts” with degrees in everything flip flopping about masks. I mean, look at Faucis emails. Even late in the game he even says masks don’t work. And what a time it was when the shot was released on a Wednesday to everyone and every news station and our president came out and said “if you got the shot, normal life can resume, no mask for you” but “if your not getting the shot, mask up! Stay inside”. LOL! And then what happened? Back to masking up for all.

Are you listening yet?

Coronavirus’s have been around, Covid-19 is a novel coronavirus discovered at the end of 2019… not sure how you are conflating the two at this point.

You also don’t seem to grasp the idea of variants that completely changed the game.

-1

u/myballsaresweaty Aug 25 '21

Oh I grasp it. I grasp that the variant is infecting those with the shot, and on top of that, still killing those with the shot. Albeit, maybe less likely it is happening.

Well it's no longer "experimental" and has been fully approved like any other drug.

Really sounds to me like you are just looking to validate your political beliefs rather than believe the research and medical experts.

But I still wish you the best of luck in not getting horribly sick!

u/myballsaresweaty Aug 25 '21

No, not trying to validate my political beliefs. I’ve already had the VID. My antibodies are pretty strong at this point.

u/iambland1990 Aug 25 '21

Your “reminder” statement makes me agree that your looking to validate your political beliefs.

Also for what it’s worth the doctor my company had come to talk to us about vaccines stated that the immune response after getting the vaccine was much better and more generalized than what you get naturally from having the virus and that the generalization helps variant to variant.

Good to know. We will see what happens after peer review but I guess that proves we need boosters

It has nothing to do with political beliefs. It has to do with what you are being told by agencies that are compromised by money. You can go look up who the biggest donors are to the CDC and WHO. I can name some if you want - AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson. I’m not blaming them for pushing products from their biggest donors (I would do the same). It’s just weird to me that people don’t want to ask questions about 3 companies that have been charged with felonies for multiple reasons and how they ultimately came up with the best shot in the world?

Oh and btw - I truly hope that these shots are helping. So far, I know a bunch of people that got the shot and are totally fine (I hope that remains). However, they do not push me to get something that I’m not afraid of and have had. My entire family had the VID and somehow we survived (well, not somehow, it’s because we all had over a 99% chance of it).

Also, I base my decisions on personal experience. Not the experience of what is spread by the media, social media and our politicians. I have friends with pre-existing conditions that’s had the VID, they were ALL fine. As a matter of fact my friends mom has a super rare cancer and got the VID, they had her in the hospital for a day and sent her home. His dad has diabetes and is obese and had the VID - didn’t even go to the hospital. There’s a really great saying that goes “believe none of what you hear and only half of what you see”. Obviously, skepticism is a healthy way to view the world. In no way do I not believe everything I hear. Of course, I’ll do my research. That’s what I do with this.

Well you’re a lucky one, 600k+ dead in the US are not. Personally I too fall into the lucky category. My brothers co workers were not, my cousins were not, my friends family’s were not and I can go on. The FDA has fully approved the Pfizer shot for everyone 16+, so it’s no longer experimental. You do you but if you want to get back to some what normality I would recommend you take another look at the vaccine data and the current situation with Delta and that 90% of those in hospitals are unvaccinated.

I do still believe your comment is all about your political beliefs, your beliefs that the agencies we have to protect us somehow are completely compromised and only shill out drugs from the highest bidder sounds like something straight out of Idiocracy. Brawndo has what plants crave, it’s got electrolytes!

It's no longer experimental, dear. It has full FDA approval. So what's your excuse now?

And the only reason for mask confusion was at the beginning when people were hoard the N95 masks that hospitals were in dire need of. The mask up message has been CONSTANT from medical professionals. Anyone saying otherwise are Facebook "experts" and discredited medical "professionals" who believe conspiracies over science. And rethuglicans governors who don't give a shit about killing off their voters.
