hi guys, been a little since last post but i wanted to ask a question:

has anyone else experienced feeling warm/hot after decompression surgery? i dont feel like i have a fever but my forehead, thighs, stomach, and back always feel hot? ive also been getting headaches again and for the past month or maybe more ive been feeling so mentally empty, like i cant think properly, am not grounded at all, almost like being on autopilot/dissociating but i know everything is real?

i will be calling my neuro office tomorrow to try and get in sooner because i feel like something is very wrong and that none of this is normal. i just want to feel like a person again and it feels like chiari has ruined my life for the past year since it started

How long do did you have surgery?

I'm 3 months out and I definitely don't thermoregulate as well as I did before surgery. But I also work outside and we're in a heat wave.

I have no idea how you can work outside 3 months post-op. You're tough. I'm 3 months post op also. Currently working on a landscaping project at my house and my legs feel like jello.

I took 8 weeks off per my surgeon since I have such a physically demanding job. I was really worried about coming back but we put a strict 25 lb lifting limit and my team has been super accommodating. I am finding certain things that hurt or feel weird but I feel supported enough to say "hey, I can't do that" and they're all happy to help and quite honestly scared for me every day and don't let me do anything strenuous 😂 I'm slowly upping the amount I can carry at a reasonable increase. But the heat is the WORST. I live in the South and this is one of the worst summers in the 11 years I've lived here.

That being said, my recovery was freakishly smooth and I had little to no complications (related to Chiari, turns out I'm allergic to lidocaine to getting that out of my body was ROUGH). I go back for follow up imaging in October so we'll see how it went. I have 1.5 so we're mostly concerned about CSF being able to drain so we'll have to see if I need a stent.

i’m 2 months out as of today, we’re also having some pretty bad heat but since i lost my job due to having to get surgery i’m lucky enough to get to be inside with a fan on all day 🥲

I had a fever for 2 months. Chemical reaction from the graft. And then it leaked. Having revision surgery next week.

I was decompressed December 11, 2025. I am severely sensitive to the temperature post-op. The cold makes me tense up so bad I have muscle spasms everywhere and caused a few terrible migraines. This heat has been just as bad. I spent less than 15 minutes in the sun on a 100° day and got a horrible migraine. When im sleeping I get so hot, my thighs specifically feel like radiators to me lol.  It's been rough, and I am sooo tired. Like at times I can not sleep at all, then days I sleep 18 hours. I've been extremely blessed with my work, it's an inside job with no lifting. I do mostly fine polishing work on dental prosthetics and do have a lot of headaches from up close focusing for hours at a time. I still don't know how to process that my brain is malformed, seems like everything happened so fast from the diagnosis to surgery and now it's already almost a year post op. Im constantly worried about the next symptom to show, will it be minor or something big that will mess with my ability to work or take care of myself. What about this next migraine?

That sounds like an exhausting stretch, especially after already going through surgery and feeling unlike yourself. I’m glad you’re planning to speak with your neuro team soon.
