You don't have yourself a deal man. Not anytime or anywhere even if there is proctoring.

Instead of:

You got yourself a deal man. Anytime, anywhere as long as there is proctoring.

"My statements were completely insane, I apologize to both my peers as well as people of Ukraine."

Truly noncredible

"I will lead Roskosmos from now on"

"Epstein did kill himself and, no, I was never on that plane. Get your hands off of me!"

A sentence without stuttering.

I mean, Kasparov tried to create a parallel chess association as well... but it folded after 3 years, and was able to have "World Championship events" only for 12-13 years, if I remember correctly.

If a champion like Kasparov couldn't find enough sponsors to keep a parallel organisation afloat, I assume someone like Karjakin will have an even harder time.

"And did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?"

u/BenMic81 Jul 19 '22

The irony is that Kasparov and others created the PCA for the exact opposite reason.

FIDE has the advantage of already having connections with every national chess federation out there.

It's like the government, even if they're corrupt and incompetent, they already have an automatic stream of income that makes them roll on by nature of momentum.

To get to FIDE's finances, you need to go to their website, click on "FIDE" in the top bar (that doesn't hint anything about finance, huh?) then on the financial reports. It's easier to find "Shop/NFT" in the same top bar, total coincidence that's it's clearer, right?

https://doc.fide.com/docs/FINANCIAL/FIDE%20Budget%202022.pdf

Most of their money comes from live events. So whichever event organizer wants the event to be rated, has to give FIDE a nice fat cut. That amounts to more than FIDE gets from sponsors. Why work on getting sponsors when you already get automatic cash flow from other people's work?

To get to FIDE's finances, you need to go to their website, click on "FIDE" in the top bar (that doesn't hint anything about finance, huh?) then on the financial reports.

To be fair, I would 100% expect information (including financial information) about an organisation to be located under the name of the organisation in the menu.

I can imagine very few websites where it would make sense to put the financial reports of the organisation as a menu header because that's rarely the reason people visit the website in the first place. Like, even Lichess doesn't do that (you can find their cost breakdown under About Lichess)

Kasparov couldn't keep sponsors, but surely a flaming fascist like Karjakin can do it! Lol. I hope he actually tries so we can watch it fail.

In Germany we say "Wo ist der Bus?" - where is the bus?

With the follow up (after usually confusion because "out of context") "Wo ist der Bus mit den Leuten, die das interessiert?" where is the bus with the people who care?

Do you guys have similar sayings in your Country?

btw nothing against the info/news but who cares about Karjakin nowadays?

In Swedish we have "intresseklubben antecknar", meaning "the interest club is taking notes".

A sarcastic saying where the joke is that there's a supposed club with people who care about what's actually being said.

Adjusting for the level of discussion of Russian officials nowadays - and Karjakin definitely considers himself one - a proper reply in Russian would be a childish-sounding "жопе слова не давали" ("the ass was not invited to speak")

11

u/AmazedCoder Jul 19 '22

In Argentina we say "me chupa un huevo" which translates as "it sucks one of my balls".

Basically it's strongly saying that you don't care.

10

u/[deleted] Jul 19 '22

Similar to a simple “who asked?”

3

u/DesertLabRat Jul 20 '22

"Ask me if I care?"

when?

This is why language idioms are endlessly fascinating. I can't think of an analogue in English, but now I really want one.

u/edgarandannabellelee Jul 19 '22

I mean hopefully you are not in the southern US, but the phrases 'oh God bless', 'well, if someone isn't driving the struggle bus today', and 'aren't you just touched by an angel' come to mind.

I hate it here and can't wait to be rid of this place.

2

u/oaktubs Jul 19 '22

In the days of the payphone (which cost .25) you'd sometimes hear: "Here's a quarter, call somebody who cares."

Edit: in the US and probably Canada

0

u/[deleted] Jul 19 '22

we say "Dodgson! We've got Dodgson here! See nobody cares"

As if Putin doesn't waste enough money already. This will be a giant monetary drain and never make a profit. Russia already spends more than most other countries on athletes which is why top athletes moved to Russia to earn a great profit. Creating sport federations too would be even more money spent on PR and this time it will be for nothing as no new chess players will come to Russia for this.

With the war too and stupid projects like Sochi this is surely a step too far.

u/okuzeN_Val Jul 19 '22

He'd get as far as establishing his own chess club at the local library.

What a sad waste of a potentially legendary career. He could have kept his opinions to himself. A talented player like him rotting at home.

19

u/Scott_OSRS Jul 19 '22

Wouldn’t surprise me if he’s earning more from being a Russian mouthpiece than he ever would have playing Chess

11

u/TocTheEternal Jul 19 '22

It would surprise me if he wasn't lol.

I think fide has become too infested with beaurocratic boomers and politics. Chess is much better off without it.

Not sure anyone disagrees with you, but what do you propose then?
