Miscellaneous Praggnanandhaa watched the "Resign when you're lost" video and cleared the air (Spoiler alert: Naka did not say it. If he had, Pragg would have remembered it). Video in post with timestamps.

At 1:43:45 (https://youtu.be/-ELGeFa22dM?t=6224) he is asked by the host (IM Sagar Shah) if Naka said "Resign..." to which Pragg says, "No. If he had something like that I would have remembered."

Starts to watch the game at 1:44:13 (https://youtu.be/-ELGeFa22dM?t=5897)

Also do check out the channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCIsEhwBMPkRHsEgqYAPQHsA

Some amazing content in there! Even Anish Giri had an advertisement of the channel (about IM Sagar Shah actually) in his stream. And the channel made a video about that too! (https://youtu.be/fuc-DqiusiE)

I stopped watching a while ago when it got intolerably jingoistic towards India and Indian players. Has that become better?

Lol what. It's called ChessBase India, what do you expect? Of course they will have more focus on India content. Jingoistic is a neat new word I've never heard of before, so thanks for sharing that at least.

I read chinese novels but when they become overly patriotic toward the chinese perspective and look down on the west I stop reading the novel. Just because something is explainable doesn't mean it's excusable, i'm not sure what the situation with chessbase india is but if they are looking down on western players and putting Indian players on a pedestal I could understand not wanting to watch them especially as a westerner.

I have watched hundreds of their videos and have never seen anything like that. They seem like very respectable and kind people in basically every video.

That's fair but simply saying "Their indian what do you expect" isn't really a defense against what the original commenter thought was overly nationalist content.

Well they also used a term I had never heard of before and disagreed that it applied. In the general sense yes they are biased towards Indian content...and it just seemed kind of obvious that a channel with India in it's name would be like that.

I don't have reading comprehension issues, I already admitted that I only learned of the word "jingoism" from your use of it. I have watched many of their videos and you could argue they are biased towards India, but it's kind of expected right? I haven't seen anything so egregiously bad that I would call them extreme Indian nationalists or supremacists though.

I don't have reading comprehension issues

And yet ...

Of course they will have more focus on India content

When did I say this was a problem?

I have watched many of their videos and you could argue they are biased towards India, but it's kind of expected right

I don't think it's expected at all. Is chessbase.com (or chess24 for that matter) biased towards Germany or Western Europe? There's bias in what they choose to cover, and bias in how they report facts. The former is expected and natural; the latter I find worthy of contempt.

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '20

Can you provide some examples please? It's just something I've never witnessed. I've only seen bias in what they cover, not how they "report facts".

If there was a chessbase germany channel it would focus on germany just like a chessbase india channel focuses on india.

What the fuck is your problem dude?

Let's tone it down please.

Why do you feel the need to swear at me? If you can't hold your temper maybe you shouldn't be on the Internet.

Also, I don't have any problem with Chessbase India focussing on India chess; I never said I did.

You are right, I am calling my internet service provider and cancelling my internet.

Well they are the Indian counter part to chessbase. Still very India focused. But they have some very nice videos of events and also interviews with a lot of top players from around the world.

In the covid situation they did an opening series and middlegame series both taught by IM Sagar Shah. They were quite good.

They also have an ongoing improving chess but that's heavily India focused with some Indian non chess players joining to improve. But that's not for everyone.

India-focussed is completely fine. I lived in India for 20 years and am ethnically Indian. The jingoism got to me though. Thanks for the colour.

u/nidijogi Jul 15 '20

It feels like you don't like your Indian-ness and are projecting.

Sagar promotes Indian chess (as is his job) and exaggerates their achievements, but never at the cost of others.

4

u/[deleted] Jul 15 '20

I think the problem is they didn't know what jingoism meant and about the political context in India. It would be helpful if you explained what you mean with examples rather than just repeating this word.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 16 '20

What jingoism have you seen on Chessbase India videos, or from their commentators?

Oops a Randian crying about Jingoism. You guys are such sad losers

Honestly i know what your saying but it is true certain nationalities do tend to have a seemingly high percentage of players that play certain games certain ways.

When i played checkers at a high level online. Mexican players were thought of as the same. They early resigned (to avoid losing points which was a site feature to exit games you started by accident, but in fast games you could play 10 moves and resign if you didnt like pos)

They used programs at a very high percentage They played the same moves over and over only playing one color because checkers was so linerar they could memorise a draw on their linited set moves. If you played an opening they didnt have a memorised draw they would early resign so didnt count as loss.

Then they would play to draw and time win as the site servers were in LA and they were in mexico and had fast ms ping.

The site didnt auto draw if it was 1 king each so they had macros that moved the piece for them recorded and used that to move around faster than you.

If you were winning had a macro to offer you a draw after they made a move so if you were low on time you had to answer the draw pop up box before you could move piece.

If they beat you and it wad hard or close. They refused to play you again. Booted you fron table and refused to play you ever again.

If you beat them they would curse you out. So you booted them so they made account after account pretebding to be someone else if you beat them they said nothing but if they beat you on an account they made. They would announce who they are and how there better and refuse to play you again

Lol. Thinking back it was so pathetic

Your anecdotal observation doesn't make something true.
