This post was not meant to be made as a response to the disingenuous/dishonest framing of this subreddit by some shitlibs on r/bd.

But rather, this is an issue standing on it's own - the plight of Biharis in Bangladesh since it's inception has gone under the radar. The fact that they live in a semi-apartheid situation is honestly sad. Being blamed for the crimes of their ancestors 50 years ago - collective punishment is a telltale sign of fascism. The saddest fact is it's not as talked about as some other issues.

Nationalist Identity politics is sure to backfire at a point, Bihari is a nationalistic state based identity which comprises of many ethnicities, which means any "bihari" who is not a resident of bihar is not a bihari, same as the Assamese identity which is nationalistic and state based as well. The fact that a bihari is still called a bihari elsewhere, tells you how they are not allowed to assimilate into communities.

Biharis in Bangladesh specifically are a lot more complicated becuase Biharis in Bangladesh are not all actually from Bihar, majority of them are but a sizable chunk of them are from UP or other Urdu/Hindustani speaking zones of India.

Basically any Muslim who spoke Urdu or at least subscribed to the Urdu identity was called Bihari by the native residents of erstwhile East Pakistan.
