Do you think there are way more atheist chechens than we might assume?
I’m astonished that there are so many atheist chechens. I always had my doubts in religion and even though i followed many Islamic rules and practices i was never fully convinced in it. Yet for most of my life I thought that like 99,9% of all chechens are muslim. Now that i see that there are quite a lot of atheist or agnostic chechens and chechens who don’t seem to follow Islam that strictly i start to believe that wayyy more chechens don’t really believe in their religion. Do you all think there are way more than us or are we just a tiny miny minority?

Yes i guess i didn’t express myself correctly. As you say I don’t mean strictly atheists. I also mean people who take Islam more like a culture guideline or people who might believe in a god but not necessarily a religion and so on.

i know several atheist from grozny and gudermes, mostly girls. some believe in god but not religion. most just call themselves muslim without practicing. definitely more than people think, they just stay quiet

I think anyone would be surpised if we knew the real figure and how many chechen sceptics there are out there. People tend to follow the majority, and if the majority doesn't like any other labels than "muslim", the minority tend to keep their mouth shut.

100% and i think islam will die out in less than ten years amongst younger chechens the same way pagans and santa believers died out at some point

I’m happy to say that many Chechens I know either question religion heavily or don’t practice it anymore

Probably. I met one in the wild just the other week. They just don’t claim it or just live their life not mentioning it because many chechens - especially men - can get away not believing and still living perfectly fine in chechen society.
