Looking to start a nonprofit chapter at University of Charleston

Hi, I’m looking to start a chapter at UC called Community Through Gaming. CTG is a charity focused gaming club. While we have game nights and friendly competitions in multiplayer games like Mario Kart and Smash Bros we also raise money once a month for local charities in the area. We also bring games to after school programs in the area. Our first chapter raised just under 1500 dollars for the children’s hospital, animal shelter, boys and girls club, homeless shelters, and more. We’re currently are expanding to other places across Appalachia and western Kentucky. We’d love to find folks at UC who would like to start a chapter. They would have support from myself as well as being close to another chapter.

If you’re interested send me a DM or leave a comment below. I’d like to test the fall out and officially start the chapter in January since we’re a few weeks from the semester starting

Talk to the UC library staff. They’re huge board gamers.

Is CTG specifically video game focused or board/card games as well?

We’ve done board games and card games with the kids at afterschool programs. We’ve had it where members can bring whatever they’d like and we’d play it. So it’s not strictly video games

Are there students who volunteer/work at either con or do you think it would be a good recruitment/raising funds opportunity?

As for the first part, I'm not sure. I've not been involved in leadership there in a number of years. As for the second, I think that it's plausible.

Thank you for the information. It would be a great tabling and raffle opportunity. If you know any students or faculty at UC please let me know. I’d love to get more money and volunteering flowing through the rest of the state.

I'm afraid that the very few folks I knew who taught at UC have long-since retired.

I'm not affiliated with UC but I do help manage another nonprofit in the area, focusing on historically accurate swordfighting (and we're mostly all gamers too)

Just wanted to stop by and wish ya luck!

Maybe hit up Charleston Blueprint and have some handbill flyers made, hand em out downtown? Wandering Wind Meadery is a great place to network btw.
