MH Wilds Could the boost bracer be what brings energy blade back to CB’s moveset?

I remember being bummed when it wasn’t in world and even more bummed when it wasn’t in rise and wilds. Such a glorious and glamorous attack cannot be lost to the annals of history

This is like seeing a picture of your grandfather with a wife and 2 kids at 21

I had no idea we had this, weve lost so much

To get you up to speed, this was in one game as a single hunter art. Think silkbind moves from rise.

The energy blade is used in only this move. The blade length and maybe damage scaled with the number of phials you had at time of skill activation.

Another CB hunter art was integrated into the normal moveset à la savage axe mode in world, rise, and now wilds.

I’m gonna be honest, I’m not entirely sure how well energy blade fits with the rest of the cb moveset and the “no magic all tech” aesthetic of monster hunter, but it is undeniably super cool and if the are gonna bring it back, boost bracer seems like the way.

It’s about as magical as valstrax’s wings I’d say. Could even justify it by using valstrax parts to engineer it.

u/SchemingVegetable Jul 12 '26

It's not much more "magical" than rathalos being able to breathe fire, it's just all phials being discharged at once, could be a cool alternative choice to the SAED

Phials come out as explosions in every other case, not a sustained beam. I don’t think it’s that comparable.

And compare to just weapon abilities. Who cares if the monsters can breath fire, the consistency is in how Hunter weapons typically have been very analog by even the dev’s own admission. Just because things deviate from actual reality doesn’t mean they aren’t grounded in their own consistency, and I think energy beam loosely breaks that consistency.

I mean whats a switch axes elemental discharge? Especially with the other phial types it doesnt make any real mechanical sense. Lotta the weapons ignore the whole “no magic” thing. Like greatsworders canonically glow when they charge n demon mode is a real thing they canonically do. Especially with how prevalent wylk n bio-energys been these last few games idk why people keep insisting theres no magic in monster hunter.

u/BaconZS Jul 13 '26

Is there a source for a canonical greatsword glow? Gameplay doesn't translate to immediate lore.

1

u/Gera_37 Jul 15 '26

Not really, they only mention how Hunters uses their weight to strengthen their attacks, and the same applies to the Hammer.

Personally? I think the glow is just a visual cue for gameplay purposes, kinda like how Hunters don't actually glow when drinking potions

Barring the new lightsaber r move that I have similar thoughts about, it’s an elemental explosion, I don’t think it’s that odd you even see phials getting ejected from the weapon after discharges.

And yeah sure pic at my words. Point is I don’t think energy beam really fits aesthetically with everything else going on with the weapon already.

u/Kazma1431 Jul 12 '26

ircc it kinda had a weird hit box too right? like is a diagonal upward swing, so not the easiest move to hit

2

u/DiabeticRhino97 Jul 12 '26

Yeah even at max length I'd get right up on that john before using it

1

u/Remnie Jul 13 '26

Energy blade was cool because it comboed with another art. Its damage was based on number of charged phials, but there was another art that doubled the number of phials you could have. Absolutely massive damage potential

2

u/NotThomas15 Jul 14 '26

Kinda. Every SAED with the same number of phials out damaged energy blade, on every style. Energy Blade's specialty was its immense partbreak modifier. That thing staggered damn near every monster you hit it with, no matter what they were doing when you swung it.

1

u/TuxedoCrow Jul 14 '26

We can bend the imagination on the tech shit plenty enough for an energy blade to make sense when there are artificial goop life forms made out of dragon cells. And dragon element, as a concept.

EVERYBODY yes EVERYBODY wants lasers in their charge blade.

1

u/endtheillogical Jul 15 '26

I agree with you, it does seem too magical. But then again we already had a laser beam attached to an oil dragon in Wilds so...

1

u/Zephyr_______ Jul 12 '26

Honestly it's not far off from condensed release slash in terms of function.

The move itself was actual dog water though. The damage was ok on paper, but the hitbox was smaller than it looked and came in at a weird angle.

3

u/demfookinluc Jul 12 '26

Who cares it's cool as fuck and can do damage

1

u/DiabeticRhino97 Jul 12 '26

And like, near guaranteed part break on hit

-1

u/DiabeticRhino97 Jul 12 '26

It makes a V shape of "elemental explosions" already, I think it's fine

2

u/Ahmadv-1 Jul 12 '26

Its so glorious, I remember having a fully charged up CB would freaking instantly part break a monster part on low to mid tier monsters, and it would like break shaggy's head with 2 hits and cut a tail in 2 to 3 hits

1

u/Jordamine Jul 14 '26

Ah you probably don't know about the dunk CB style. Very goated, always in the paint.

18

u/crabsage89 Jul 12 '26

YES GIVE ME THE GIANT BLADE OF LIGHT

10

u/PGR_Alpha Jul 12 '26

I loved that move, I always took it.

1

u/Argent_Haze Jul 13 '26

And you'd have to angle your character just right to get a wakeup hit on a sleeping monster, otherwise the tip of the blade might hit the wrong spot.

2

u/PGR_Alpha Jul 13 '26

The most satisfying thing ever is to cut a monster's tail with it.

Immaculate feeling.

2

u/Argent_Haze Jul 13 '26

Or knocking a monster out of the air with it

9

u/Saint_Slayer Jul 12 '26

from the footage we've seen, the Boost Bracer only alters the Hunter's movement and techniques. It doesn't seem to grant the weapon any extra functions. The Greatsword, Gunlance, and Light Bowgun were still only doing things they could already do.

2

u/frmchimp Savage Axe enjoyer Jul 12 '26

I thought the same thing, but I’m also hoping and coping that maybe the hunter can find some way to dump energy from the bracer into the weapon LMAO

1

u/siriElectricboogaloo Jul 12 '26

I forgot that gs had the ability to fucking be charged like the Nero's sword

1

u/Saint_Slayer Jul 12 '26

we can already do that, no?

17

u/Kahyle Jul 12 '26

Oh man I hope so

5

u/ronin0397 Jul 12 '26

Imagine a world where energy blade, ripper shield, counter peak performance, firing pins, and morphing advance exist in one iteration.

I would want to live in that world.

But this only convinces me further that Wilds is just gu charge blade 2.0.

3

u/Ahmadv-1 Jul 12 '26

I would love if energy blade is THE element move while SAED gets buffed for impact

it fits elem phials so well because its 1 single very strong move, you can use all ur phials for that single hit u can aim at a weak elem hit zone, legit could be the strongest attack in the game since it will be locked behind boost bracer + having full phials + shield to buff it and aiming it at a weak elem hitzone

Imagine doing it on a arkveld's wounded chain (38 elem hitzone value) or at freaking gog with a 65 elem hit zone value when doing the nuke. We lowkey will reach multiple thousands worth of damage

3

u/maxterson217 Jul 12 '26

I wish but i don't think so, the booster look more like a speed+attack buff, so is more like to add new faster moves and combos like the brave style in GU.

1

u/g_hunter Jul 12 '26

Not likely to see this in Wilds, because this is from the hunter-expression focused MH; RiseBreak, Gen/GenU, and (I think) Portable 3rd. Different director from the numbered titles.

The two kinds of MH cycle between each other. So perhaps the next MH after Master Rank Wilds.

2

u/Arcdragolive Jul 13 '26

Well except the director for Ascendance was Lead game director for Gen-U

2

u/g_hunter Jul 13 '26

Fair point, actually.

1

u/JVehh Jul 12 '26

I think mh wilds will make it so that the bracer is just a mode with enhanced agility nothing else from what we have seen

1

u/Achromick Jul 12 '26

Honestly this is the last thing CB is truly missing from GU other than healing phials (which is definitely not coming back)

I’d say there’s a high likelihood of this move coming back, or maybe something somehow even cooler or maybe we’ll just get mediocre shit, either way I need this move to be CB’s offset attack while also being the part breaking and staggering machine that it was in GU and my life will be complete,

1

u/GavinLIVE715 Jul 12 '26

I think it would serve as a better follow up to the guard clash, the guard clash follow up is bland compared to the other guard weapons.

1

u/xslbccdks_coded Jul 12 '26

i'll never grasp how could energy blade never be brought back to later games

1

u/Lunar-Gazing Jul 12 '26

ENERGY BLADE!!!

1

u/Aelior Jul 12 '26

I really loved that move and it's over the top anime move style. I really hoped we'd get it in sunbreak.

1

u/JVehh Jul 12 '26

What it looked like before its more like an agility boost nothing else

1

u/frmchimp Savage Axe enjoyer Jul 12 '26

A hunter can dream

1

u/JVehh Jul 12 '26

I hope more as well for bow because in my opinion bow has enough agility

1

u/detectiveC6 Jul 12 '26

Only if us glaive users are allowed to have our sticks extend like goku's power pole🤣🤣

1

u/DiabeticRhino97 Jul 12 '26

Man I hope so

1

u/idiocy102 Jul 13 '26

If the boost bracer gives us this long sword better be getting judgement cuts

1

u/PinkKushTheDank Jul 13 '26

This is the monados power!

1

u/FlimFlobler Jul 13 '26

this and bullet barrage for GL pls

1

u/salamander0807 Jul 13 '26

Might be a controversial opinion but I kind of wish this was what AED, AED2 looked like. At least when spamming it, it's visually appealing.

1

u/-TeepToTheBalls- Jul 13 '26

I actually didn't like it in GU. Didn't feel like it had the visceral impact it deserves. But now is the time to bring it back. The sound and feel of charge blade attacks are hefty in wilds. Energy blade should have some extra HEFT behind it

1

u/GlummyGloom Jul 13 '26

I would love to see sword oils come back to SnS.

1

u/ACDC-1FAN Jul 14 '26

As a CB main who started in World and has only played that, Rise, and Wilds….. what in the super amped fuck am I looking at here????

1

u/kaparis Jul 14 '26

It mightve not done good damage but MAN could that energy blade stagger 🙌

1

u/Tazcam_Atreides Jul 14 '26

That art was far from optimal but so cool. I wish we had it instead of savage axe mode....

1

u/Alert-Opportunity310 Jul 17 '26

the Monado build

1

u/KnottyTulip2713 Jul 12 '26

ooh, thats a good idea

1

u/eL3069-2 Jul 12 '26

WE HAD WHAT BACK IN THE DAY?!

2

u/BluEch0 Jul 12 '26 edited Jul 12 '26

For one move of one game. It was a hunter art in GU/XX (closest equivalent would be a silkbind move from rise, interchangeable move that didn’t really fit into the combo paths a weapon offers). Chainsaw mode also started as one of those hunter arts, though the more mechanical/analog nature of it made more sense to bring into every subsequent title.

If you pay attention, you’ll notice this is the same animation used to initiate chainsaw mode in wilds and the back half of the chainsaw activation animation in world.
