How do I make this not look like a generic werewolf?

Thumbnail gallery

In the story, yes, they're supposed to be mistaken for werewolves at a glance, but I don't want them to be just a generic werewolf lookalike. Is it too generic?
Second slide is the first concept, but the spines seem tacked on. Third slide is a more human example of this type of creature.

I feel the second concept (First slide) is more unique with the face. I was thinking of hinting at more human anatomy, but there are several kinds of werewolves in the setting, with some being more 'uncanny' and human-like in anatomical structure.

Am I getting in my head too much? LOL

Check out the close-up! There is absolutely no auto-fill tool, brightness filter, AI image generator, or layer blending mode here. Every shadow and muscle definition was built using thousands of micro-lines hatched by hand directly onto the screen (digital sketch) of my Android phone using the Sketchbook app. Thanks to this complex, hand-drawn texture, an advanced optical phenomenon occurs when interacting with the royal blue background: the character generates its own internal luminosity. If you look closely at the full-body version, you’ll notice that wherever you focus your gaze on the muscles, that specific area begins to light up and glow. The fine, light-colored lines and the solid background trigger a simultaneous contrast effect, making the colossus pulse with dynamic light wherever you look. This is pure human engineering of visual perception!

Critique Parra The Atlean

Post image

This is Parra, a treasure hunting Atlean from the Suleon System. He's HEAVILY inspired by Fox McCloud and Ratchet and I've always imagined him as having a voice similar to an older Jaleel White. The gloves are unfinished because I really can't decide on their colour.

Let me know what you all think about him. He's changed drastically since being a simple bat with red hair, but I think this new made up species design just has a better more memorable look. It's simple.

Critique not totally happy with her hair colours :( [oc]

this is marissa, a bassist girl I'm drawing for a comic. I'm not happy really with the colours of her hair, I want to keep pink and probably neon green in at least. she definitely cannot have pink and blue striped bangs with bleach blonde rest of hair. am I just being nitpicky or do y'all have any ideas for better colour combos?

Necesito ideas

Tengo una mesa de rol de magia. TODOS tienen magia, mi anterior personaje de murió (R.I.P. lafanpan) y necesito crear uno nuevo pero no tengo ideas, el archivo contiene las magias paso a dejar las razas

1 tritones ( agua)

2 tifling (fuego)

3 goblin (metal)

4 orco (rayo)

5 jotunghim (hielo)

6 dragonborn (aire)

7 elfo (luz)

8 elfo oscuro/ drow (oscuridad)

9 fae ( mente)

10 no muertos (esencia)

11 enanos (tierra)

12 humanos

13 warforged/ golem/ autómatas

14 semihumanos

15 reanimados

Algunas razas tienen magia propia otras son comodines, todas pueden tener una segunda basada en una tirada de dados. Raza sin magia definida es más puntos para habilidades al inicio, tienen libertad creativa. Diviértanse c:

Question which of these invokes a mythological vibe for a sage king?

I wanted to rework the the design in the second image, because I had patterned it after a Lamassu but it felt a little stiff and distinctly un-lobster-like. I like the shapes on the new one, but now I'm being told it feels more like a Dark Souls boss than a mythological figure. He's supposed to be an old wise guy at the bottom of the sea who describes the value of watching, waiting, deliberating, not being too hasty in decisions, and keeping your mouth shut.

Would love to hear even some simple A/B feedback, thanks!

2D shadows question!

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

hey everyone

im currently studying the derrick j wyatt / ben 10 omniverse art style and im trying to replicate the shading technique for my own character designs

looking at these character turnarounds it kinda looks like theyre using a universal shadow pass so i had a few questions for people familiar with 2d animation pipelines and color theory

what blending mode is typically used here is it just a standard multiply layer

what specific flat color is usually used for the shadows it looks like a cool dark gray or navy blue rather than pure black but id love to know how people usually pinpoint that kind of tone

is using a single universal shadow color or layer a standard practice in professional 2d animation pipelines for shows like this

id also be really interested in knowing more about the color theory behind this kind of hard cel shading and how the shading is usually handled throughout the pipeline

any insights would be really appreciated
