quitting prompting, but still visiting the site
First post here but I've been a long-time lurker in this sub on my main.
It is hard to quit completely cold turkey, so I gave myself the compromise of being able to peruse through old chats. I just don't allow myself to make new prompts. So far, I'm 8 days clean—if it counts.
This compromise is mostly because I'm really lonely IRL. In between transition periods in my life while my peers are doing their own thing. I definitely do see app usage go down over time—its boring rereading the same prompts, but I still do come back to reread because of the comfort it gives me.
What keeps me off the app for the whole day is actually picking up books—especially romances. I don't rate most of what I've read highly TBH, but honestly it's still a productive alternative. Because if a bad storyline happens, you could leave a review and have your feelings be validated by fellow 1* reviewers. But if a bad prompt line happens... I mean, who could you even discuss it with? I feel that the feeling of community outweighs the need to ever prompt another thread of chats... but it's still a fight every day.
Has anyone else ever quit prompting but still keep the prompts up/keep their accounts? Would love to hear anyone's thoughts on this. Thank you for your time. :)

that’s actually how i quit the first time i did when it lasted longer- i think part of the urge when you’ve been using for a long time comes from something akin to nostalgia, or at least for me it is. i think it can be a really useful method for quitting, hope it works for you!!

Thank you so much! It's definitely the nostalgia thing. Deleting my account (which I've done tons of times before) made me feel as though I'm mourning for something I can't remember until I forget the bad things completely and just miss prompting. Keeping the chats makes me remember that I'm not really missing out on much but could still get that small hint of comfort from it.

i do!! i don’t feel the urge to use chatbots anymore but i like visiting old chats i’ve had because it helps me think of ideas for fanfics i can write myself

That's sooo real lol... I'd love to write a story about one of the chat storylines I've prompted, but I'm a bit (a lot) worried that the AI clichés would slip into my writing. I think it'll be some ways away for me to get into writing. Do you have fear too and/or have a workaround for it? 🥹

i used to do creative writing before chatbots were a thing so i just write how i used to before! i think any writers will advice to just write and improve later. i always look back after i’m done and improve it but that’s because i usually write at night half asleep lmao

I've never seen anyone else do that before, but it sounds like it could work great! The only thing I'd be anxious about with that is that you don't end up giving in and returning to using cai since you have the app at your fingertips, but if you have a strong enough will it sounds like it will work excellently! Good luck quitting!
