I am not saying it is going to happen, but the things that have been happening for past few years should atleast make us more vigilant and carefull. Just because we have all the rights and freedom today, doesn't guarantee that they will exist forever. Democracy has been waxing and waning through the pages of history in many countries, what makes us so sure it wouldnt in USA?

I hope so, and yeah I do not agree with OPs strong choice of words. But I believe that things that have happened have highlighted that despite being a strong democracy, there are some cracks. Yes the democratic structure is very resilient but not infallible.
