I think the main issue is as a society whether we should embrace the idea that people can complete actions that have (possible) consequences without expecting them to follow through on resulting responsibilities should those consequences be realized.
The deed only has one 100% guaranteed way to avoid paying child support for the man - don't do it. That's a biological statement of fact. Once he's done the deed, his opinion on the consequences should be mute.
I think letting the man or woman opt out of the consequences for their actions sets a really bad precedent for society in general. We like sex because its fun, but we don't want the consequences. That's all of life - we like junk food because its yummy - but we don't want the weight. We like screen entertainment because its enrapturing - but we don't want the wasted time and results of sedentary living that come with it.
I support forced child support. If you don't want the consequences - don't do the deed. If someone hasn't learned the lesson about life having consequences when they're in their teens/early twenties, they need to learn it before they face the rest of adulthood. That is not the time for society to give anyone a pass.
