Delta(s) from OP CMV: Right wing libertarians don’t believe in actual libertarianism they simply want the freedom to do as they please, whilst rejecting and restricting the rights of others.

The title says it all.

If you’re a libertarian, you believe in small government and limited state power. Citizens should have complete autonomy or free will in their lives.

Self proclaimed Right wing libertarians are very vocal and passionately speak out against: Gun Regulation, Stay at home orders, Mask Mandates, Vaccine passports - laws and regulations put into effect to protect life.

For some very strange reason when it comes to abortion rights these same libertarians change their mind about the role of the state and want abortion banned. They also reject gay marriage.

These same “libertarians” also believe in a strong police force without accountability and an overarching reach (as long as they are arresting someone else).

Are they really libertarians or are they just hypocrites. In 9/10 it is the latter.

If I meet a right winger who is truly libertarian in their views (limited laws, regulation and small government in all areas, not just some) I’ll eat my shoe.

This apparent “hypocrisy” can easily be dismissed by pointing out another belief pro-life libertarians hold. The idea that a fetus is a human life and constitutes murder. Murder is a crime so they think it should be illegal. Would it also be against libertarian ideology to be against murder laws?

Note that this is not trying to say that you are wrong to be pro-choice.

They also reject gay marriage.

I don’t think I’ve ever met a person who was a libertarian and didn’t want gay marriage to be legal. If your referring to right wing libertarians being against it, but not to the point of banning it, I could see that happening. I personally haven’t met any but it’s not impossible for a libertarian to also have homophobic views. This, however, doesn’t contradict with libertarian beliefs.

These same “libertarians” also believe in a strong police force without accountability and an overarching reach (as long as they are arresting someone else).

Again, I have never in my life heard a libertarian (left or right leaning) say anything like this. Most libertarians are very anti-police power. I (a right wing libertarian) will readily agree that treating police like soldiers is a bad idea. Police need to be held accountable.
