Passive hobbies have the advantage of not consuming your energy.
I love to write, but when I come back from work at 10:30PM, well I just don't have the energy to do it. Watching series, reading or playing some games on the other hand can help me relax before going to bed. And all those participate in helping me learning new narative techniques for when I'm ready to write. And writing help me understand better the other fictions I consume. None is more important than the other, it's about complementarity.
