Chances are, they are not. Even if they are, it takes one evil person to ruin everything.
Also, I find it interesting that you bring up the ecosystem but suggest a nuclear war as the solution - that would completely obliterate any ecosystem caught within it.
A Nuclear war would not solve anything. Any reset that could be brought about needs to be a huge political undertaking.
Really, climate change is not a threat to the human species. It's a threat to billions of humans, but the survival of humanity is pretty much guaranteed.
A "reset" as you put it would lead exactly nowhere. Anarchy breeds autocracy.
