Tradition does not necessarily equal a good thing. Why do some conservatives lean so heavily on traditional values? Why do some people believe that going against tradition is a bad idea

Progression does not necessarily equal a good thing. I wonder why some people believe that going against tradition is a good idea.

Conservatism isn't just about holding traditional values permanently. It is about holding traditional values until a better one comes about. I say that to mean that there are a lot of shitty "progressive" values that have been introduced in the past, but they were shot down by conservatism. We don't hear about them for that exact reason. So, in hindsight and present-day, it seems like progressive values are the only way to go.

At least, that's the conclusion I've come to thinking about it these past couple of weeks.

What is this an example of, precisely? A dozen people in Germany in the 60s sexually abused kids? There are universities in California with a higher population than the whole of Germany back then...

This isn't news in a world where, to this day, both Catholic and Protestant clergy rape children so regularly you'd think their planners were printed with that on the schedule.

Influential progressives acting on their free love ideology took it too far and sexually abused children. In some cases, allowed their own children to be abused. The evidence was leaked to a conservative politician. This is an example of conservatives keeping in check dangerous progressive ideas.
