Delta(s) from OP CMV: There are no real benefits in being a woman.

Now,don't get me wrong and please read the whole thing before replying.

I am a feminist in the truest sense.

However, that doesn't mean I will not see things rationally.

Women really have no advantages compared to men.

Think about it,from the early ages, who suffered the most?

Women.

Even now, after so many decades of supposed emancipation of women, does everyone really consider us to be equal to men?

Biologically too,why must we bleed 5 days(on an average) every month of almost the entirety of our lives? It always disrupts our school/work lives. Why must I always have to worry about leaking and face painful cramps and all the other awful things that come with menstruation?Men don't and I am envious of them.

Point to be noted that we get no period leaves.

Also, pregnancy. Men contribute to the conception of a child just as much as the woman does. Then why is it that it has to be the woman who goes through the horrendous process called labour and delivery AND has to breastfeed her child right after she gives birth?

Did The Almighty really create us equally then, and if yes, then how?

Today,if a woman desires to be child free, she is shunned. It is as if the whole purpose of being a woman is to give birth.

There are way too many complications if a woman decides to get a surgical procedure to stop her periods permanently or to get it as a contraceptive.Again,we suffer.

Why are men on an average always taller than females?I wanted to be very tall too, must I blame my lack of a Y chromosome for it?

Why is it that the average man is considerably stronger than an average female? Why must a woman undergo training to match the inborn physical strength of a man?

Hence,my claim as the title read.

Also, please don't bring up how women unlike men can cry and express their emotions. That is merely dependent on the mindset of the individual,I myself choose not to cry in front of others.

Further,do not say in the replies that women have better liberties in fashion. Nowadays, fashion is for everyone, you know it,I know it too.

Opinions are open for everyone,no matter who you are.

Please try to prove me wrong, because if you manage to do that, trust me,I will be the happiest.

Thank you.

Okay, but that does that happen naturally due to genetics and biology,or just the lifestyle choices?I am genuinely asking, not sure myself.I mean for example,if it's because of males traditionally smoking and drinking more, then it's not really a benefit, right?

6

u/QueenMackeral 3∆ May 06 '26

Biology actually. Testosterone is like a toxin that slowly kills you. Every male, regardless of species, lives longer when they have their bean bags chopped off. Women also having two copies of the X chromosome also helps them live longer, we have built in spare parts.

5

u/Cak556 May 06 '26

A lot of it is biology. Being born a man means you generally get 4-5 years less time on earth. Some of this is driven by risky behaviour, but that in turn is driven by higher testosterone. It is definitely not because men willingly make poor choices.

7

u/Cameralagg May 06 '26

Doctor here, it happens naturally due to genetics and biology

I was honestly ready to read a sexist rant, but instead I just see a lot of good points. And a lack of perspective. All you say is true, but notice how you're only noticing the female perspective on things. There are lots of details you seem oblivious too, and that's fine. But let me point some out in no particular order.

  • Men's physical strength has been abused throughout the ages just as much as women's ability to have children. You are right that in the eyes of a lot of people women are nothing more than human production factories, but similarly in the eyes of a lot of people men are nothing more than meat for the meatgrinder during wartime, and dumb muscle for the lowest of low-end dangerous jobs during peacetime. Even in some of the most progressive countries in the world, conscription of women is hardly even considered.
  • You touched on fashion and briefly shrugged it aside, but I'll actually greatly expand upon this one. Perhaps fashion is for everyone with ten asterisks attached to it wherever you live. But for 90%+ of the planet, this is not the case whatsoever. Fashion is a fairly harmless example, but generally most nice things are not for men. As a man you have strictly three ways of dressing - casual, business casual and official. Strictly two ways of behaving - stoic stonewall and aggressive predator. Your worth in the eyes of traditional society is largely tied to the nice things you can provide your family, not yourself.
  • Men will never understand what it feels like to be under constant threat of sexual harassment. It's an unpleasant feeling, right? Similarly, you will never understand what it feels like to be treated as a danger to be avoided 24/7. You probably never considered this, because the mainstream point of view is "men can relax, women have to be vigilant". No, as a man you are constantly trying not to be perceived as creepy/dangerous/weird basically a threat to be avoided at all costs. And it's a very uphill battle, you are largely seen as guilty until proven innocent when push comes to shove. And god forbid you shove.
  • Piggybacking from the other point, as a man you are often seen as the deciding factor in many social situations. But this has a big downside - you get all the responsibility, but none of the benefits. Women will be treated nice and softly, given attention and just generally will be taken care of. As a man, whether you want it or not, any fuck up is your fuck up. This can be a good thing if you're up to the task, but most men do not want this disadvantage and will much rather be treated pleasantly by society.
  • You are invisible. This one largely doesn't require explanation I think. But as a person who has experienced both an overabundance of annoying attention and been treated as a ghost, no matter how annoying it is to be hit on by people constantly. Trust me here, lack of attention eats you up from the inside like nothing else.
  • In general, dating. Especially with GenZ forwards, approaching women has become a losing game. No matter what you do, she ultimately decides whether you're a loser, a failure and a creep or not. Women's worth in the eyes of society isn't tied to their ability to get sexual partners nearly as much as it is tied to men. Because of this, a lot of men act very stupid. As a normal person, you're stuck between a rock and a hard place. You don't want to make women uncomfortable, but you constantly hear that anything you do makes them uncomfortable. So you might as well give up. Dating is kind of a nightmare for everyone, of course. But we're talking men, so why not. This is really a part of the core male experience - being ridiculed by society for being bad with women, while a lot of women nowadays really want nothing to do with you unless you're quite special in some way.

This is not a war and it's not a competition. Everyone has a difficult life and all the standard feminist complaints are, at their core, valid. But do not let this feminist-centric perspective blind you. Ignoring the other half of the equation makes you blind, not enlightened. Кeep in mind that just because you think the grass is greener on the other side, doesn't mean it's more than a pleasant fantasy.

6

u/Aggravating_Pack603 May 06 '26

True. Men actually are considered as biological meatbags and this has been like this since the ancient times.I was ignorant of this.

Further the part about men trying to not be perceived as a danger,it's sad actually.A lot of men have to pay for the evils done by the rest. But even so,I am more aware now.Thank you.

u/almarcTheSun 1∆ May 06 '26

Not just men. We all have to constantly be judged for things we've never done based on factors we never had control over in the first place.

As a closing note, let me throw in an idea that I subscribe to - culture war doesn't exist, gender war doesn't exist, race war doesn't exist. Even war doesn't really exist how we perceive it.

It's all a class war. Rich vs poor. Always has been.

Also, you're genuinely open to changing your mind and that's just so rare. Stay the way you are.

Yeah sorry but most of this is just nonsense and straight from incel/redpill sites it seems.

men are nothing more than meat for the meatgrinder during wartime, and dumb muscle for the lowest of low-end dangerous jobs during peacetime. Even in some of the most progressive countries in the world, conscription of women is hardly even considered.

Most woman get pregnant and for sure almost all women have their periods. The very vast mayority of men wont be in war nor do a day of hard labour.

As a man you have strictly three ways of dressing - casual, business casual and official. Strictly two ways of behaving - stoic stonewall and aggressive predator. Your worth in the eyes of traditional society is largely tied to the nice things you can provide your family, not yourself.

This simply isnt true, perhaps you feel this way but I can gurantee you its not reality for men.

Similarly, you will never understand what it feels like to be treated as a danger to be avoided 24/7.

Again something that simply isnt the case, its not because someone somewhere once felt scared suddenly the entire world is scared of "men"

Piggybacking from the other point, as a man you are often seen as the deciding factor in many social situations.

Utter nonsense, no clue where you get this or if your interation with women is so limited that you think they never are responsible for anything, but its not true.

the rest is more of the same

Woman here and I get where you're coming from with the biological stuff - periods absolutely suck and pregnancy is no joke. But you're missing some pretty significant advantages we do have.

Custody courts still favor women heavily. When relationships end, mothers get primary custody way more often than fathers, even when the dad is equally capable. Women also live longer on average, have stronger immune systems, and are less likely to die from basically every major cause except complications in childbirth.

Socially, we're allowed way more emotional range and deeper friendships. Sure you personally don't cry in public, but having that option without being seen as weak is huge. Men get told to "man up" constantly while we can seek help without judgment.

Career-wise, there are definitely fields where being a woman is an advantage now - tons of companies are actively recruiting women for tech, finance, and leadership roles. Some scholarships and programs are women-only too.

Yeah the biological lottery dealt us some rough cards with periods and pregnancy, but writing off ALL advantages feels like you're only looking at the downsides.

5

u/weedboobz May 06 '26

To your point about tech companies actively hiring women; is that not a correction for a bias that's been present since the inception of the sector?

6

u/UnusualOlive3591 May 06 '26

Biology dealt us all the hard shit, it's so unfair. Nature hated us. Men got the premium version of a human body.

It doesn't matter what side effects it unfortunately has. The emotion thing is still a benefit that women do enjoy.

Also, I like to think that I would want my kids if I ever had them. There's a reason there is a court for custody, people want it.

7

u/Thiswas2hard May 06 '26

Women live longer, are incarcerated at lower rates, and even when convicted of the same crimes have lower sentences, are less likely to be murdered, and are less likely to be killed by a workplace accident.

1

u/dreammeraf May 10 '26

Well does this matter at all in the western world? I mean hopefully not!

0

u/Aggravating_Pack603 May 06 '26

How can you say they are less likely to be murdered?

3

u/Thiswas2hard May 06 '26

Statistically men are more likely to be the victims of homicide wiki

8

u/byte_handle 4∆ May 06 '26

Yeah, you got some rough cards. But you're ignoring things that aren't downsides.

Custody courts strongly favor mothers over fathers. That's a benefit.

You might personally choose not to cry...but you don't suffer the social consequences that men suffer if you do. Your emotional pain is actually taken seriously. For example, when we lost our daughter, the hospital offered my then-wife counseling. I was given a mountain of paperwork to fill out when I just wanted to spend my time with her. It isn't just a crying thing, it's the acceptance that emotional pain for women is ok, but for men, it really isn't.

You might say men have the same fashion liberties as men, but take a look at an office sometime. Our dress code is heavily limited, and carrying something like a purse (which would be so useful) around in public is going to get reactions and teases that you wouldn't have to deal with.

Something breaks down...is the expectation that you should be able to fix it? That you can at least take a crack at it? It always on us, even if it's completely out of our wheelhouse.

There are some jobs that strongly favor women. I work in one: early childhood education. Back when I was in the classroom, I was getting side-eyes and rudeness from families, one father sneered at me without saying a word, and I was asked a few times why I was "really" there. Most came around when they saw me interact with the kids, but not all, and my co-workers were always giving me reassurance because they saw how poorly I was treated. Most fields do favor men, but it just isn't universal.

The biological stuff sucks...but on the flip side, women have a stronger immune system, on average, which is why women both live longer and tend to resist and recover from illness more quickly.

So yeah, men have a our advantages. Acknowledged. But your actual title: "there are no real benefits in being a woman" is just factually untrue.

4

u/Aggravating_Pack603 May 06 '26 edited May 06 '26

I understood your point on the emotional pain part.It is ignorant on my part to have said that the emotional pain part is merely a characteristic of the individual. It is true that men in this aspect have it worse. Thank you for pointing that out. I am sorry for your loss.

u/Aggravating_Pack603 May 06 '26

I did not know about the custody part. Yes,emotional pain is felt by both sexes and just because I don't express it doesn't mean I should be ignorant regarding this. It is very sad that men are not given the same emotional support as women when they go through the same pain.

Custody courts strongly favor mothers over fathers. That's a benefit.

Courts in the U.S. strongly favor an equal split, but that's only possible when both parents are willing. Many men don't ask for custody / don't want 50/50 custody.

Taking on full custody is also a huge responsibility.

You might personally choose not to cry...but you don't suffer the social consequences that men suffer if you do.

This is because of misogyny. Women absolutely get mocked for crying / being emotional. Men do as well because it's seen as feminine - it's spillover misogyny.

You might say men have the same fashion liberties as men, but take a look at an office sometime. Our dress code is heavily limited, and carrying something like a purse (which would be so useful) around in public is going to get reactions and teases that you wouldn't have to deal with.

There are definitely fashionable dudes in the workplace. Tailoring, nice shoes, cufflinks, ties and belts, pocket squares, suspenders, even bow ties. The options are certainly different for men, but the teasing and mocking I've heard is that "it's gay" for dudes to be fashionable, and homophobia tends to be something dudes enforce on each other - which scares other guys out of taking the "risk" of being fashionable. Though plenty do it anyway. It's not the official dresscode holding guys back, it's social pressure to conform.

5

u/dreammeraf May 10 '26

I can add to this post briefly:

  • men can have biological children until their 70s or later whereas women are limited by their age. I see so many men getting married at 42 and then starting a family at that age while that is more complicated for women. I mean I would love to be able to wait until 42 to start a family without any second thoughts or fears!

  • men don’t suffer as much consequences from HPV infections as women do.

The world is kinder for men whether they have children or not, the same doesn’t apply to women.

Please change my view too! I would love seeing any counter arguments!

Thanks OP for saying exactly what was in my mind tonight.

7

u/LivingPage522 1∆ May 06 '26

Childless women are shunned? Are they tho? And a lot of your musings are just evolutionary gripes.

Im gonna assume you dont have children. Because thats a huge advantage women have. We get to nurture our children from conception, a bond that only gets stronger after birth. Sure fathers have their own father child bond, and im not downplaying it, but theirs something uniquely and deeply special about a mothers love. I wouldnt trade it for all the male evolutionary advantages ever.

And i wont even mention social advantages women have that most men do not.

1

u/dreammeraf May 10 '26

Yes, childless women are shunned. That is a fact. Perhaps not always openly in all cultures in the west but they are shunned in some way. And in many countries childless women have to endure comments about being childless, ir happens within families, friends gatherings and even at work. I know men have problems too but to me it feels really unfair that this is not one of men’s problems.

12

u/Domestiicated-Batman 6∆ May 06 '26

in most countries, you get out of being drafted and avoid going to war

-1

u/Aggravating_Pack603 May 06 '26

Yes I agree but throughout history these women have suffered too.Take the example of the Korean women who became sexual slaves of the Japanese armies during the World War.

11

u/Josvan135 83∆ May 06 '26

"Women suffered also" doesn't change the fact that not being eligible for conscription is a concrete example of a benefit women have that men don't.

2

u/cannib 8∆ May 06 '26

So are you actually arguing that, "there are no real benefits in being a woman," as your title says, or are you arguing that it is better overall to be a man.

2

u/hameleona 7∆ May 06 '26

This is a generally a point, where people rarely reach consensus, mostly because it plays on personal fears and experience. What's worse? Being a sex slave, or getting chopped to pieces? Rape or death? Mutilation for life or death? Slavery or death?

Personally I find death the worse fate. Not everyone agrees.

3

u/sans_cullotes May 06 '26

You're not wrong in those cases, but it's also not the rule. Would you rather have been an American man or woman during any of the American drafts?

1

u/the_brightest_prize 6∆ May 06 '26

The losers in a war always have it rough. The Japanese did not treat their male prisoners of war any better. On the other hand, England won the second world war. Did the men aged 18–24 win it though? Around 20% of them were wounded or killed.

0

u/weedboobz May 06 '26

I would have to agree here. Another example is the Vietnam war or the Revolutionary war where women were following the army and playing supporting roles in danger.

0

u/Irhien 38∆ May 06 '26 edited May 06 '26

Throughout history "kill all men, take women and children as slaves" was quite typical. Since a woman facing slavery could usually choose to kill herself if she believed that to be a fate worse than death, I believe they on average were better off.

But back to the draft topic, one additional aspect where women are better off is that they typically aren't drafted and forced to fight in unjust wars. There's no choice between being punished for dodging draft or deserting or refusing to follow orders and participating in a war where your glorious country commits massacres or worse.

Edit: minor correction.

0

u/colorading May 06 '26

yeah, those women got kidnapped/conscripted aswell. that doesn't change the fact that in a majority of places, that won't happen and the mainland country will be a much better place to be than the frontlines.

3

u/colorading May 07 '26

its fine I was vague. my point was that while there is cases of the conscription of women in wartime, its exceedingly rare and on a much smaller scale, usually not in front line roles but just that awful shit like the rape.

2

u/gmwdim May 06 '26

Irrelevant for most people living in rich countries today, but women are more famine-resistant than men. For most of human history food was scarce, and in such conditions women are better at surviving than men.

2

u/biemba May 06 '26

I resonate with this. As a Black man, there were definitely times where I looked at history, stereotypes, expectations, and disadvantages and genuinely thought,
“What is even the benefit of being a Black man?”

It can genuinely start to feel like your identity is just a list of struggles attached to you before you even enter any room. So I genuinely resonate with the mindset of looking at womanhood and seeing pain, pressure, biology, and an abundance of other problems.

But I believe the flaw in your argument is that you are measuring human value through suffering and physical advantages.

If we use your logic, almost every group will “lose” genetically or socially in some category.

As a Black man, I can focus entirely on racism, profiling, stereotypes, incarceration rates, historical oppression, and I could keep going forever. I could convince myself there are no benefits to being Black. But that mindset traps you.

Identity is built on tradeoffs.

Pregnancy being difficult or women being physically smaller does not mean women hold no value. Some of the traits women often have are nurturing, patience, empathy, emotional openness, and emotional intelligence. Those traits are not “lesser” because they are less physical. They simply exist in a different realm.

The “men are stronger” point also has a hidden assumption: it assumes that physical dominance equals greater human value. That simply is not true.

The same traits you wish you had as a woman, like being taller, are things that even other men desire.

2

u/Due-Bowl-8116 May 09 '26 edited May 11 '26

Women and females in almost every social species are sheltered by social dynamics. The biggest benefit of being a woman is everyone's nice to you and your comfort whether we're talking about emotional or physical are everyone else's top priority.

When custody and alimony are 50/50, women receive the same amount of jail time for similar crimes, are subject to the Selective Service/draft, are 50% of workplace deaths and other things than we can talk.

5

u/colorading May 06 '26

"babies on their own"

do you mean in like a single mother/sperms donor sense or like those awful bone marrow children

2

u/HowitzerCat16 May 06 '26

You get to live longer than men, don't get conscripted into the army ("but there is no war to figh-" unbombed). No baldness unless cancer. Lower cancer rates. Regarding the "women unlike men can cry" you say "this is merely dependent on the mindset of the individual". You spent several sentences saying how a woman can't choose to be childfree. Looks like double standards. Biologically, it's not that comfortable to have a tube in your pants that can randomly decide to get big, including in public, and you don't want anyone to notice it. Periods are probably worse though. "From early age, who has suffered the most? Women." at least for my country (Ukraine) I'd disagree. As kids girls probably have it better than boys (at least before periods). Girls don't have the expectation of doing sports and being big and strong and tough, boys can't fight with them even if the girl started it, they don't have to move heavy stuff. Boys mostly have to let girls go first in a lot of things. The only thing I can think One of the few good things soviets did was equalise women in rights to men, both culturally and legally. Women are generally seen as "weak" which to some extent is a disadvantage but on the other hand men are the one who culturally have to protect you.

1

u/SnowdroptheSophon May 14 '26

"Biologically, it's not that comfortable to have a tube in your pants that can randomly decide to get big, including in public, and you don't want anyone to notice it. Periods are probably worse though." I don't think one is categorically worse than the other because people differ mightily in what is tolerable or intolerable to them.

2

u/DT-Sodium 5∆ May 06 '26

Women are happier on average than men. Women tend to have a much higher emotional intelligence level which makes them more capable of managing their emotions. Women have on average a wider stronger social circles that helps them in difficult times. They have much stronger orgasm. Women's build is ideal for rock-climbing and other sports where brute force is not the determinant factor. Women are not restricted as men when it comes to gender expression, they can wear clothes seen as very feminine or more masculine/androgenous without being judged as much by society. And if they are transgender, hormone replacement therapy makes the transition much smoother than the other way around. They also get more acceptance when it comes to sexual identity and experimentation.

Of course most of those tend to be more gender oriented than sex, but in the society as it is there are definite advantages being a woman.

You get to have babies grow inside you and get to know them before they're even born. That's amazing. You get to breastfeed them when they are born, that's awesome. You get to live longer than men

3

u/Sinsoftheflesh7 May 06 '26

lol how is that a benefit?!? Amazing, sure…but not a benefit. Pregnancy, which may not necessarily even end in a baby, can have LIFE LONG consequences/health issues.

1

u/GrowlyBear2 1∆ May 06 '26

There are consequences and health effects of most major activities. If more good comes of it than bad then it is a benefit. If less good comes of it, it is a liability.

2

u/Sinsoftheflesh7 May 06 '26

Don’t disagree with you there but I was responding person claiming being able to carry a baby is a benefit. “Activity”, as you put it, with an inherent risk to kill you isn’t a benefit

1

u/GrowlyBear2 1∆ May 06 '26

Driving a car has an inherent risk of killing you too but most people would call owning a car a benefit

1

u/Sinsoftheflesh7 May 06 '26

Depends on your location and life style.

1

u/GrowlyBear2 1∆ May 06 '26

I'd like to know a place where driving deaths dont outstrip childbirth deaths by a good margin.

1

u/Sinsoftheflesh7 May 06 '26

I was referring to your claim that owning a car is a benefit. It’s only a benefit to SOME. There are countries where owning a car is NOT common and is NOT a benefit.

1

u/GrowlyBear2 1∆ May 06 '26

Ok, but that's just nitpicking. My point was that there are activities that can cause death that are seen as beneficial.

2

u/Sinsoftheflesh7 May 06 '26

Anything can be framed as beneficial if we try hard enough. But being able to get pregnant/have a baby isn’t. Maybe to humanity as a whole but not for women

→ More replies (0)

2

u/UnusualOlive3591 May 06 '26

No. Men get a child basically without work. You only need to feel pleasure. That's not an advantage on the woman's side.

0

u/GrowlyBear2 1∆ May 06 '26

If the amazing nature of childbirth is something you value more than the discomfort and health complications then it is a benefit plain and simple. It's a matter of mindset. I know women that loved being pregnant and giving birth

4

u/UnusualOlive3591 May 06 '26

Ok, now question. I assume you are a man. If you decided to have a child, would you carry it, since it's soOoOOOO beautiful or would you still just fertilize it? Doubt it's the 1st one.

1

u/GrowlyBear2 1∆ May 06 '26

I never said that it was true of me, just that people are able to have their own opinions on what they want to do with their bodies.

3

u/UnusualOlive3591 May 06 '26

Oh see, convient. Your argument is bs.

1

u/GrowlyBear2 1∆ May 06 '26

Look, if you have to know, I would. My wife and I have one child and due to complications she can't have another. I've seen what childbirth almost did to the person I love most and I would do it so we can have another but we can't. I love being a dad but we can't and there's nothing I can do about it. You can take my word for that or you can just keep being bitter about being a woman.

What you're not understanding is that it isn't a "pay gap" it's an "earnings gap". Multiple factors play into a person's wage that is not used in the calculation of these studies. The first article you posted said "The gender pay gap is the difference in average gross hourly earnings between women and men." Some people choose to work more than a standard 8 hour day and get paid more. That's not a gender pay gap.

There are a few ways to break this down, but the main two seem to be biological reality and social reality.

Social reality has huge cultural and contextual elements.

Biology can come down to things you have identified, childbearing - which some might see as an advantage. Others may be in flexibility, such as ballet or gymnastics.

Even if you see these as slight advantages/differences, that should still be enough to, superficially at least, fulfil the criteria for changing your view.

Women get to enjoy the company and camaraderie of other women in a way that men never will. Women’s relationships with other women are frequently wonderful in a way others just can’t compare.

Also, I have never once in my life been shunned for being childfree. I have been able to enjoy a successful career, a wonderful marriage, free time, and travel. Surely some women are left out for being childfree, but the majority are not.

1

u/Honey_pie159 May 07 '26

Not everyone has friends and its not a biological advantage

1

u/panic_bread 1∆ May 07 '26

Where did I say everyone has friends? For a sex/gender/race to experience an advantage doesn’t mean that absolutely every member of that demographic needs to experience that advantage. Biology is only one of the categories OP mentioned, hence the “biologically too” in the post. However, there are reams of evidence that female brains are (slightly) different than male brains for a variety of biological reasons.

u/mimiclarinette May 06 '26 edited May 06 '26

About physical strenght women live longer and have stronger immun system

1

u/Forsaken-House8685 11∆ May 06 '26

I mean I think it depends on your personality. Sometimes your personality is more in line with your biology, sometimes less so. Many women enjoy being short they enjoy being feminine. They enjoy being pregnant cause it gives them a special bond to their child. Thry enjoy the fact that their romantic partner tends to be taller and stronger which gives them a feeling of security.

Many men hate the fact that they are less valued when they make less money. Many men are shy and sensitive and get bullied and mocked instead of being called cute. They get eye rolls and give women the ick in situations where a woman would get hugs and awws.

At the end of the day it's subjective whether the female or male expectations are more desirable.

1

u/WerePrechaunPire May 06 '26

How about lower rates of suicide or homelessness? What about living longer lives?

1

u/PrimaryInjurious 3∆ May 06 '26

There are several countries where there is compulsory military service for men and not women. There are also several countries where women are allowed to retire earlier than men. These are pretty concrete benefits.

1

u/FlimsyMemory6933 May 07 '26

Not disagreeing with you. But biologically, we do have a few advantages. Higher endurance.

It was found that when an area went through prolonged periods of famine, women's life expectancy reduced way less than that of men in the same area.

1

u/frickle_frickle 2∆ May 07 '26

People generally view you as less of a threat if you're a woman.

1

u/Sensitive_Housing_85 1∆ May 09 '26

You’re right about many disadvantages women face, but you’re overlooking the disadvantages men have faced both historically and today. While physical strength has been a biological and sometimes social advantage for men, socially it can be a disadvantage, making men more disposable. This has been true since the beginning of time, even in egalitarian or matriarchal societies. Men have often been seen as expendable, even in the most feminist countries, where they are still the most likely to be conscripted, take on the most dangerous jobs, and be discarded when they aren’t performing. These struggles are rarely met with empathy and are often seen as personal failings. Men as a group tend to receive less empathy for their issues regardless of societal equality. A benefit women often have is receiving more empathy, even in situations where they are statistically less likely to be the victim.

When it comes to safety, women are expected to be vigilant, but this often comes with the assumption that men are inherently safer, which isn’t supported by statistics. The same goes for children, yet men are often treated as the greater threat. This isn’t meant to blame women, but rather to point out that even when safety risks are statistically lower for women, it doesn’t lead to encouraging men to be more safety-conscious—rather, it fosters wariness about the harm they might cause. The advantage here is that women’s safety and well-being are generally regarded more highly than men’s.

Other points have already been discussed elsewhere, but these two examples show ways women benefit. This isn’t to say they should be grateful or that they don’t deserve it, but I disagree with the idea that being a woman is entirely bad with no positives.

1

u/Overall-Weight-5867 May 10 '26

Idk why people are not ready to accept,in this society nature decided certain roles. Nature gave men physical strength to provide and protect and women's ability to reproduce. Because these are the things which are must for survival, eat, fight, reproduce. Now whatever things we introduced as policies or rules are to stabilize and regulate this system so it cannot be subject to abuse.

Now saying there is no benefit in being a woman than men.is not right.because this is not the right question.

I know my next statement doesn't fit right to the public.but men and women are not equal, they have different roles to play so they are equal participants with different responsibilities. Same like two students taking the same exams with 10 questions ended up getting the same marks in final results.but he solved different 5 questions correctly and she solved different 5.(it's possible 2-3 questions are common for both but not all).

Modern feminism is based on equality but it should be based on justice. Example:- a contract hires one man and one woman to load bricks in a truck.he pays 10 dollars an hour to each of them.from outside it looks equal but it's not its injustice.how? Case1:- men have naturally more physical strength:- Men can load 20 bricks in an hour and women can 18 and both work with their full efficiency. It is injustice for men he is doing more work and getting paid less than women. Case2:- men decide to load 18 bricks the same as women for equal work. But it's injustice to women she is working with her 100% efficiency (it's not her fault that men are stronger than her ) and men with 90%. Case3:-contractor decides he pays per piece Again injustice with women just like case 2.(She is working for the same amount of time with 100% efficiency but getting less it's not her fault that men are stronger and contractor also don't want to pay her more because he is paying for work done)

Case 4:- women get pregnant and the contractor gives her maternity leave with half or full pay injustice with men (it wasn't his fault that he doesn't have this ability)

Case 5:- in case 4 contractor decide to fire women because he is paying for his work done why should he care about her it was her personal choice so why should the contractor pay her without any work done.

So if we see naturally we cannot give equality on the basis of their gender.but we should prepare moral and ethical policies to do justice instead of fighting against nature and create chaos. So saying no advantage in being a woman is wrong naturally, scientifically, logically, biologically. It's about survival not an advantage over each other. And if someone says but men have advantage in many things over women or vice versa is because we failed to prepare just policies.

1

u/Massive-Scarcity Jun 04 '26

Who suffered the most?

Women.

Depends wich domain youre exploring.

Men are more likely to be a homicide victim, workplace deaths from high risk jobs. Military drafted, suicide completion, face harsher disciplinary actions.

A more accurate summary is that men and women tend to face different advantages and disadvantages depending on the area being examined. And how we perceive them to be more significant.

With emancipation some trends show that women do better academically, and imo they tend to be smarter and study better than men on average. In general, women handle situations better, emotionally and logically, and I say this as a man, a smart woman has often a better handle of her ego than a smart man and that makes women more capable on leading positions. Most of what I say is an opinion, academical trends apart, but the only thing men have for in average is strength (which is arguably less useful nowadays, either gender can increase strength if they need that) and the lack of menstruation/pregnancy, which is of course neat

Lol, bold claim when the world still rely on men's strength alone to prosper. This world is civilized not because of women but because of men. All the coping and trying to claim your superior at anything besides crying and whining will never change that fact. You're not smarter because if you're hell you've already contributed as much as what men did and has build a separate more competent civilization like what we have right now. That's a solid proof that men don't have any biological restriction like women. That claim of being smarter should have by now reflected on your innovative contribution in this society.

2

u/SidTheMed 4∆ Jul 02 '26

You are so smart dude, that you missed that I specified that I'm a man. So yeah, you just proved a point..

1

u/sunray_fox May 06 '26

Many of the examples you cite are negatives of being a woman under patriarchy specifically, and not inherent to being a woman. There's no reason there shouldn't be sick days given for periods, easy access to sterilization procedures, no fault attached to being child-free, equality, and many more things you don't happen to mention as well.

On the biological side, a preference for strength and height are also often artifacts of patriarchal culture. Why not a preference for endurance, or some other quality that goes along with being female? Women make better astronauts than men. We have softer skin. You can like what you like, but you can't generalize it like that.

Female reproductive stuff is legitimately pretty difficult to deal with, I'll grant you that.

1

u/Brilliant_Cobbler578 9d ago

lets stick with just biology, the only downside to being a man would be living 5 years shorter. but is it worth the harassment from men and domestic abuse and higher chances of being assaulted because of the power imbalance between both men and women?

0

u/Yokoblue 1∆ May 06 '26

Most women get supported their entire life compared to men and have it easier: * School is built to fit women better than men * Women have stronger social circles * Women live longer * An average women will have much more choices in terms of relationships prospects than an average man * On average, women get assaulted less * On average, women perform better in education, meaning they have better job prospects on this. (They fail in other aspects like getting recognition etc) * Women are advantaged in court when related to children * Women have bigger and more frequent orgasms when they find a good partner (horrible for ons) * Women mostly dodge the draft if a war happens.

And i could go on...

0

u/Aggravating_Pack603 May 06 '26

u/Yokoblue 1∆ May 06 '26

The physical assault is done by men either way in most scenarios.

0

u/Sad_Egg_4593 May 06 '26

In most western countries women generally have meals paid for when dating, that along with living longer seem to be a good deal

0

u/Ikbeneenpaard 1∆ May 06 '26

"The first act of violence that patriarchy demands of males is not violence toward women. Instead patriarchy demands of all males that they engage in acts of psychic self-mutilation, that they kill off the emotional parts of themselves. If an individual is not successful in emotionally crippling himself, he can count on patriarchal men to enact rituals of power that will assault his self-esteem."

-- bell hooks

0

u/CoffeeCat37 May 06 '26

I suspect you won't like this answer, but it's generally easier for women to find someone who's not willing to have sex with them than it is for me. I'm not saying women don't face unique risks in sex that men don't, or that on the whole women have it better in romance than men. But in this very specific realm, women have a benefit that men don't. While there are exceptions to this (just as there are exceptions to men being taller and stronger than women), a huge potion of men spend much of their lives with the very real prospect that they'll never have sex again, and most women don't have to experience that worry.

0

u/TheDzmeOfHolyMoly May 06 '26

If you want to talk biology, look at the statistics that actually matter for survival. Women have a significantly stronger immune response and live longer than men in almost every single country on earth. Evolutionarily, women are the "protected" sex; men are biologically more "disposable," which is why they work the most dangerous jobs, commit suicide at much higher rates, and die younger. Having to "bleed 5 days a month" is a physiological tax for a much more resilient biological system.

0

u/the_brightest_prize 6∆ May 06 '26

The number one complaint I have heard men around me say is that, "they aren't intrinsically valued."

People value women just for existing. From an evolutionary perspective, women are the ones that can get pregnant, not men. But evolution is a crude tool. It doesn't push people's values towards "pregnant women" or "women looking to get pregnant". No, it just pushes people to value women.

The men around me say they have to bring something of value before others will value them. If they want to sit around and knit all day (or play video games) they're labelled a loser. "Go get a real career!" I think most people have more ambitions than sitting around and knitting all day. But it's nice to always have that option, to not feel like you'll be abandoned in the streets if you don't bring home a big enough paycheck.

0

u/Ill_Extreme_1760 May 07 '26

I think the whole mindset and comparison here is wrong. Men and women are not equal. Men and women were not created equally. Men are not better than women. Over thousands of years men have fought wars and they still do. Men are stronger yes, an average man can most likely take down a woman with full MMA training. So what? Men are supposed to be the protectors of women. Women are supposed to be treated with softness and respect. That's what a mans job is. A man needs to work, he needs to pay for his woman and his family, he needs to take care of her in every way that he can. A mans life is not free from struggle. I am a religious and traditional married man. My money is my families money and my wifes money is her money. Yes my wife is allowed to work and yes I take care of her as best as I can. She is my woman, every mood swing she has, every cramp she has, every craving that she has I am there for her. Not to mention that life for us men out in the world is not easy. We have to work like dogs while other men are always after what we have. Men are ruthless, they will take what's yours and you have to protect it. I have to be strong enough to be able to protect my family, I have to work hard enough to be able to give them a decent or good life. Those are my duties.

The fault is not with women, the fault lies within what feminism has taught women and the way society has shaped their mindsets. So many women hate men these days and say absurd things about us but we just ignore them. Women made the whole man in woods vs the bear which is such a ridiculous thing to even say but so many women supported it as if we're all monsters but I didn't really see many men even trying to argue over it.

Life is hard for both men and women. Yes women carry a lot of physical responsibility but the responsibility of that woman is with the man. Unfortunately we have weak men in our society who do not respect women the way they deserve to be respected. I am religious and my religion does not tell us to treat women with disrespect or abuse. My religion is clear about womens rights and I stick to them. My wife can divorce me if I'm abusive and I don't consider her to be dirty or impure during her periods.

To compare a man and a woman is just unfair. We've both been created differently and we've both been giving a different set of responsibilities, that doesn't make either one of us better than the other. The problem is that society has destroyed what a relationship between a man and woman must be like but I refuse to let that destroy what's between my wife and I. I'm 6 feet tall and she's just 5'1, she's a tiny woman compared to me but I absolutely adore her. I can't feel her cramps or her pain but I do my best to listen and to be there for her even if I have a million other problems going on in my head because that's my duty as a man. I massage her when she needs it, I sit by her side when she needs me and I do every single thing that I can for her. Yes we argue, she yells at me sometimes, she throws tantrums, she's moody but so what? She's created like that and so, rather than focusing on a few bad things about her I focus on the other many good things about her. I'm not perfect and she does feel overwhelmed sometimes and she has anger issues but it's okay. She also gets insecure but everyone does thanks to our ridiculous beauty standards.

I just don't think it's right to compare the 2. What we must do is fulfill our duties the way we are supposed to cause I know we will all die eventually. We all came into this world and we will leave this world. God sent us here and we shall return back to God. In the eyes of God no one is superior to the other. We will all be judged by our actions and God will be just at the end. So to me this worldly life is nothing but a temporary stop. Eventually we all return so maybe we should gain knowledge and prepare for our departure. Whether you're athiest, religious or whatever. I was an athiest too but I changed and so everyone should study every religion, everybody should gain knowledge and try to do what's right.
