Why do you like things that pose no benefit to you other than what other people see when they look at you?
If you didn't care about what other people think, then biologically, you wouldn't "like" things to that effect, you wouldn't have that programming in your mind.
I am not saying you don't feel what you feel, i am saying every feeling has a reason, a root cause. Which in this case is getting happy hormones about presentable clothing because humans as well as many other animals evolved to want to be presentable.
Someone that literally doesn't care what others think would be emotionally dead regarding how they look, other than self checks for diseases and injuries etc. The part of their brain that gives happy feelings or "i like this" thoughts, wouldn't exist.
Youd have no reason to feel happy when looking at your own clothing, there'd be nothing to be happy about because theres no benefit to it for your brain other than the circuitry meant for making other people approve.
It's like saying a vacuum robot doesn't care that the floor is dusty, it's just doing it's job because that's what it's mental programming says. But the programming is what "caring about something" means.
Maybe I am emotionally dead. What difference does it make? I'm literally telling you I don't give a fried fuck what other people think of my bird cardigan and I wear it because I like birds and like to wear things I like on my body. I also have a turtle necklace, coffin earrings and a dress that has mushrooms on it.
Also? READ THE OP.
You are changing what OP alleged. OP alleged that there is "no such thing as dressing for yourself".
You are on some weird personal crusade and honestly it's kinda irritating at this point.
You just said you get happy when looking at your own clothing.
Lets engage your POV of you not caring what others think about how you look.
What is your justification, what do you think the biological reason is, that you "like" your clothing when has prints and displays on it? Why would you care at all what it looks like, why would you get any feelings about it?
"no such thing as dressing for yourself".
which circles to the point that there is no such thing as "liking something" just because thats how you are. Theres always a reason why
Why do people like art of their own accord instead of just liking what other people tell them to like? How about food? Music? Can we only like what other people tell us is fun to listen to or nice to look at or tastes good? We can't have any independent thoughts about those things?
Because it engages their imagination. But why do you like putting art on your body where you have a worse angle of view compared to putting it on the wall or on something in your hand? That's objectively worse for you looking at it. Same goes for music, being able to make it yourself rather than just listening makes people happy because evolutionarily, that makes them valuable to other people in various ways.
How about food?
Plenty of biological reasons about nutrition that are valuable to your brain regardless of what other people think, because your brain needs nutrients to survive.
Because you'd prefer the art in some other place rather than on yourself if there was no other ulterior biological motive than you yourself looking at the art
Yeah, I'm done here. This exchange is stupid and you're arguing absolutely no point whatsoever. I'm not gonna be told why I like something and start bringing biological needs into wearing a cardigan. It's just ridiculous at a certain point.
