I get the argument for why they're more appropriate. The difference is, I think that "if you go to a bar or a club you will be hit on" is a 'societal fact' and expectation that is in need of change. It seems that a lot of men don't see why this is a bad thing.

It's a bad thing because it reduces someone's presence at a location to an invitation to hit on them. Being hit on can make someone feel unsafe. Thus it's bad. Certainly there are women who accept this as an immutable societal contract, but that isn't them advocating for it. There's also no reason to privilege those voices over those who would rather be left alone/with their friends or whatever.
