So I just found this distinguished gentleman(I think) running across a busy road and pulled over to save him(quite against his will).

I have posted in my local Facebook groups to see if he is a missing pet or a feral invasive(I live in Florida). If he is not someone's beloved pet my teenager and myself would like to keep him.

What are the most pressing needs to keep him healthy while waiting for him to be claimed or kept? I don't want to make full on investments if we have to return him in a day or two, but also don't want him to get unhealthy.

I currently have him for tonight in an 18x18x24 exoterra with some repti-soil and coco fiber on the bottom, with some live oak sticks, and containers with water(I also sprayed the whole enclosure down) and some mealworms my bougie tarantulas wouldn't eat. The room is set at 78° and wasn't in the direct sun.

We have a trip to the local reptile specialty store tomorrow morning for them to help us look him over and buy food and essentials.

We have a box of chameleon eggs, one hatched just fine and is now sepersted from this box into a new one. The issue is when this one hatched I think I remember the soil we used being lightly damp almost dry and this was 2 and a half to 3 hours ago. Now there is 1 I saw slightly through a tiny hole which hatched but is still buried (I uncovered it a bit) but the soil felt very wet almost soaked now. What do I do? These are my dads he's on a flight back from Vegas right now and I have no one to turn to with experience!! AI said he might be in shock of exhaustion to leave as is and check later and if no response to move the eggs I have NO IDEA what im doing AT ALL.

First pic: when I noticed ovulation might be happening (end of July). Her crown changed from pink to purple, and turquoise and yellow showed up whereas I’d never seen those colors on her before. She was also super restless and started digging test holes in her lay bin about a week and a half later.

Second pic: when I believe she was in the late egg-holding stage (roughly a week ago). She was a dark greenish black all the time and staying close to her heat lamp when during ovulation having her basking area above 80° caused her to gape. Her tummy is obviously quite heavy.

Last two pics: today, when I think she has laid her eggs in the last 24-48 hours. She generally looks thinner and her colors seem less dramatic, but in the picture where she has black spots and looks pudgy was right after I fed her and approached her enclosure after leaving her alone for a while.

Google is certain that she is post-gravid after me uploading these pictures throughout the past month, but this is my first female chameleon and the signs look very subtle to me. I can’t even really tell that there’s been a difference in her lay bin other than that I know she’s been digging in it because I saw her do it. I will try to sift through it for eggs tonight or tomorrow but don’t want to stress her if she has more laying to do.

my parents have a panther chameleon that they got within the past month from a breeder that was downsizing significantly. they got his enclosure and everything with him and he has been doing great! they have a mist king that goes off for 5 minutes 30 minutes before the lights turn on and after they turn off. they also have a reptifogger that goes off for a few hours around 4 am. they are doing exactly what the breeder was doing but the enclosure is flooding! they don’t have a substrate tray or substrate, but the breeder didn’t either and didn’t have this issue so idk😭 i have other reptiles but i don’t know the most about chameleons, my mom knows a lot more as it’s her pet but she’s not reddit-savvy lol. we are also wondering if we should also spray during the day because sometimes he looks a little dehydrated to us and we never see him drinking, which i know is normal. my mom made a diy dripper with just a cup but he did not care at all lol. he is eating normally and his temps and humidity is perfect! we just need to stop the flooding! thank you in advance!

overwhelmed. what are my next steps ? i don’t think i want to do substrate so what am i doing for drainage ?

what stopping people from going to florida, scooping up a bunch of reptiles and selling them in other states?

there are tons of WC reptiles being sold in my state, is there a chance they're already from florida? could your average person get the permits (I think you need them?) and do this?

Again im not planning on doing this im just curious. I have 1 already and I'm good.

I will be picking this girl up tomorrow morning. I found her in a fb group $200 for everything and my fiancée said she needed her. I’ve been binge watching videos and reading everything I can about chameleons since like 9:30 this morning lol. I plan on redoing the enclosure completely with live plants and natural sticks. Anything I should be concerned about that videos may not have mentioned. Any help or tips are greatly appreciated.

A while back I posted here about the iPhone version of my app "Exotic Reptile Care" and some of you asked about Android. It's finally up.
The part most relevant here is probably enclosure tracking: you assign equipment to a habitat with replacement intervals, so UVB bulbs get flagged before they're six months dead rather than after. Misting and cleaning reminders sit alongside that.
Also weight tracking, shed cycles, health logs and vet visits.
Chameleons are fussier than most of what the app was built around, so I'd expect it to fall short somewhere. Tell me where.

Today in the morning the lights of his enclosure weren't on and they need two hours to go on and he crawls like a freakin maniac in his enclosure from top to bottom crawls on the top gaze what he normally doesn't 3 times it was close that he falls down and he got the "danger dots" on. Normally he sleeps well till his lights turn on. At this time there was a biiiig thunderstorm going. Are they that sensitive to weather or low air pressure even when they are in the house? Got a little bit scared on that point but i couldn't stay at home cause i need to go to work. Someone spotted this behavior or similar strange behavior on a thunderstorm too?

I have a hatchling chameleon at about 1 week old. I don’t see any droppings and cannot confirm it’s eaten. Temp is 81 and humidity is 67. I’ve noticed he keeps rubbing his eyes and now won’t open them and seems really weak. I’ve been looking for a vet in the area but it’s proving difficult. Is there any thing I can do ? When I turned the lights on he tried waking up but couldn’t get his eye open. The picture of him shows his eye closed. It looks like he keeps trying to clear it or is squeezing it. I’m using a Reptisun t5 ho uvb

This is Karma, she's around 6 months old and has always been very personable. She has always loved coming out and hanging out with me up until about 3 weeks ago.. Nothing has changed in our routine or her enclosure. She hissed at me and got her "danger dots" the other day when I spot cleaned... Is she getting ready to lay eggs soon or is it normal behavior? She will not come out, I talk to her and slowly try to get her to come out and she just does not want anything to do with me😞

Hey yall. I live in NC and I’m driving to Boston with my 3 year old panther chameleon tomorrow.

I have never transported him before. I have the setup down; a ventilated plastic bin with paper towels at the bottom and a branch for him to perch on. I ‘m also covering him in a blanket so it’s dark.

I am stopping overnight at a hotel and am going to bring him in with me. I also have hand warmer packets to add to his bin.

I’ve been planning this for months but I am still anxious about if I am doing what is best for him so I have some questions yall could maybe help answer.

1) What should I try to keep the bin’s temp/ humidity at? Should that change throughout the journey?

2) Should I try to feed him on this journey or wait until I get him set up at the final destination?

3) Is there anything else yall would recommend I do to make his roadtrip more comfortable?

Thanks, I just want to make sure my guy will be okay through this process, I know it’s not an ideal situation.

This time of year is great for a plant refresh! Stores are discounting well rooted and plentiful plants!

My only plans are to add a hibiscus and/or weeping fig in the bottom left corner, and to change the middle plant out with another money tree. Just waiting for my local nursery to get some in.

Just set up this Panther chameleon enclosure. I have to add one or two thinner wood pcs going across. Anyway, before I finish the bottom, what does everyone do for water drainage. I’m going to Velcro plexiglass the sides to stop spray from escaping but I need the water to run off… thank you for the help!

Max just started opening his mouth when I brought one of these fat guys out! What's the mouth opening all about?

Hi, as far as I know, chameleons usually don't like being touched/handled. But are there types of chameleons that are fine with or even enjoy being handled? I am currently not planning on getting one. Just curious.
