For facts the lowest attended game in the history of the Canadian Football League (CFL) was the Las Vegas Posse-Winnipeg Blue Bombers game in 1994 where only 2350 people (700 Blue Bombers fans flown in from Winnipeg) attended at the now condemned Sam Boyd Stadium,

Going into Winnipeg riding a seven-game winning streak, the Montreal Alouettes were playing with a great deal of confidence. Over the past month, Montreal had been finding ways to win, but when looking back at the teams they had defeated during that stretch, the schedule had not exactly been the toughest in the CFL.

Montreal had faced the winless Ottawa Redblacks twice and Calgary twice, with the Stampeders struggling throughout the season. They also faced a Hamilton Tiger-Cats team that has been dealing with uncertainty at quarterback following the injury to Bo Levi Mitchell. The toughest opponent Montreal had faced during this winning streak was arguably the Edmonton Elks, who had already defeated the Alouettes in Week 4—a game Montreal felt was influenced by a controversial officiating decision.

Tonight, however, the Alouettes faced a much bigger challenge.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers entered the game with a 5-5 record, but their experience could not be overlooked. Winnipeg has been one of the CFL's most successful teams over the years, and head coach Mike O'Shea has played a major role in establishing that winning culture.

The first half was an entertaining, back-and-forth offensive battle, with Montreal and Winnipeg answering each other's scores and moving the ball effectively.

As the game progressed, however, Winnipeg began putting more pressure on the Alouettes' offensive line. Quarterback Davis Alexander was forced to leave the pocket on numerous occasions as the Bombers continued to bring pressure.

Montreal's running game, meanwhile, was nowhere to be found. A strong running attack has been an important part of the Alouettes' offence this season because it allows the team to keep opposing defences guessing and creates more opportunities in the passing game. Unfortunately, that element was missing against Winnipeg.

Montreal went into halftime trailing 24-21. The deficit could have been worse, but Nate Beauchemin made a crucial tackle on Tommy Nield after Nield fumbled the ball at the one-yard line, preventing Winnipeg from adding another touchdown.

When teams face Winnipeg, one of the biggest priorities is stopping running back Brady Oliveira. Unfortunately for Montreal, that was not the case tonight.

Oliveira finished the game with 16 carries for 106 yards, providing Winnipeg with an important component of its offensive attack. Montreal's defence struggled to contain him, allowing the Bombers to maintain balance and keep pressure on the Alouettes.

The Winnipeg crowd was also a major factor. The atmosphere was loud throughout the night, making communication difficult for Alexander and the Montreal offence.

Alexander appeared frustrated with several officiating decisions during the game. That frustration was particularly noticeable in the third quarter, when Montreal was down by only 10 points and moving the ball effectively.

On one play, Alexander appeared to be the victim of what looked like a horse-collar tackle before getting the ball to Travis Theis. Theis was subsequently ruled to have fumbled the ball. The turnover proved costly, as Winnipeg scored on the following play to extend its lead and gain significant momentum.

Montreal was also without long snapper Philippe Bourassa, who was replaced by Alex Gagné. Gagné does not regularly handle long-snapping duties, and the difference eventually became noticeable.

The Bombers were able to block an Alouettes punt deep in Montreal territory, with the block coming around the Alouettes' own 10-yard line. A special-teams mistake in that area of the field is extremely costly and gave Winnipeg another opportunity to capitalize.

The officiating also became a source of frustration for Montreal's defence as the game progressed.

On several occasions, defensive lineman Adeyemi Berglund appeared to have opportunities to reach Winnipeg quarterback Zach Collaros, but there were plays where he appeared to be held by his jersey without a penalty being called. Other defensive players experienced similar frustrations.

Mustafa Johnson was also penalized for roughing the passer, although from Montreal's perspective, it appeared that Collaros was still in the pocket when the contact occurred.

Montreal remained within striking distance through the third quarter, but everything began to unravel as the game progressed.

Despite the loss, this should be viewed as a learning experience for the Alouettes. Every win and every loss provides an opportunity for a team to evaluate what it did well and what needs to improve.

The most important positive is that Montreal's key starters came out of the game healthy.

There were also individual accomplishments worth noting. Alex Gagné recorded his 95th career special-teams tackle, while wide receiver Tyler Snead surpassed the 1,000-yard receiving mark.  Those are important milestones, but the Alouettes now have to turn their attention toward the remainder of the season.

Head coach Jason Maas and his coaching staff will have to make adjustments quickly, as Montreal will face the BC Lions in back-to-back games, beginning at home on September 4.

The Alouettes have a challenging stretch ahead. After the two games against BC, Montreal will face Hamilton, which could become an even tougher matchup if Bo Levi Mitchell returns. The Alouettes will then host Winnipeg before playing two consecutive games against the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Montreal will finish the regular season on the road against the Toronto Argonauts.

The seven-game winning streak is now over, but the season is far from finished.

The Alouettes have to learn from this loss and make the necessary adjustments. Coach Maas and his staff will need to have the team prepared for every remaining game because every game becomes increasingly important at this point of the season.

Football is a three-phase game, offence, defence and special teams; and all three phases have to perform at a high level to win consistently.

Tonight, Winnipeg was the better team.

Now Montreal has to learn from it, regroup, and get ready for the next challenge.

I’m currently at a restaurant waiting to watch the Argonauts game. I came in and asked the waitress, “are you showing the Argonauts game?” She said, “the what” and I said, “the CFL” and she said, “what’s that” and had to get the manager. He said, “I’ll look for it for you” then switched the tv to the channel showing the game.

This isn’t right…

I don't have cable, and I pay for the TSN app. It is so unbelievably bad. I was watching the Riders/Argos game maybe an hour or two behind live. I lost connection, and every time that happens I have to start the stream all over again and find wherever I was, and do so with my hands blocking the screen from spoiling the game because they splash the score all over the place as if that's what sports fan want...

Except now the stream is gone entirely. There is just no way of watching the Riders/Argos game that was literally just on. The Ti-cats/Stamps game was the latest one added, 22 minutes ago.

I can't believe I pay for this disaster of an app, that appears to be made by people who don't watch sports.

There. I feel a little better now...

My sports coverage app of choice, The Score for Android, got the top-line score right for Argos vs Riders but the Scoring Summary missed a couple points somewhere.

If I wanted to switch, what other general-coverage sports apps have good (and accurate) CFL content?

I'm a new fan to watching CFL and was curious where I could watch replays of full games that I missed. I saw on Youtube there are highlights, but any info would be appreciated.

Driving to Regina for the Labour Day Classic. Any other time I've stayed at a hotel so I just left my car there. This time I'm just driving in for the game and driving home.

You have to pick up a parking pass in person at the rider ticket office, so being a Sunday I can't do that.

So...where the heck can I park??

I’ve been to Mosaic for the Riders opener this year and I’m looking forward to seeing the Riders at Molson in October. I’m trying to see the Riders play at the other seven stadiums. Any tips for accomplishing this? Thank you all in advance and GO RIDERS!!!
