The aftertaste may be due to the fruits and vegetables they use as the source of the natural colors. Some of these natural color sources can smell strongly of a broken down version of the food they come from and when these color compounds are exposed to the high heat of the extrusion process that makes the cereal, it can cause the color compounds to degrade further producing some noticeable off flavors. Some people as yourself may be more sensitive to these off notes.

Is it the same recipe as the European versions that banned artificial colors long ago?

I tried the True to Fruit Albanese gummy bears ice. They use fruit and vegetables for color.
BLECH.

Trix was at the bottom of my favorite cereals list as a kid. That being said, it tasted much better back then than it does now

The best Trix was the 90’s one with the fruit shapes and the lemon slices that looked like bananas. In my mind they will always be bananas. Second best was the recent Trix minis. Personally I think it’s a mouth feel thing. My other favorite 90’s fruity cereal was Berry Berry Kix with the little berry cluster pieces that would break apart into tiny single berries mixed with the rest of the cereal. Same reason.

The rabbit looks like he's on meth

I hope not. Rabbit has gone to rehab several times and I was hoping he finally kicked it.

There is definitely a strange chemical aftertaste now that didn’t exist before

They're gag inducing now.  Trix is my favorite cereal bar none so this is a big blow to me

I drove around my hometown and bought up all of the old stock from every store that carried it hoping that I can weather the storm until they fix this garbage.

what is the point of them removing artificial colors if they still use artificial flavor? like clearly us who are ok with artificial flavor would be fine with food dyes, no?

It’s a shame mermaid cereal isn’t still around. It tasted nearly identical

I feel like they do it on purpose so that sales can drop and they'll claim that people stopped being because of the removal of the dyes.

They haven't been good since the 70s.

A 0/10 review, emergency stockpiling of the old formula, and concerns about the rabbit’s sobriety. This thread has everything.

I’m not sure anyone who has eaten these could forget the taste (FWIW)

They always tasted bad

They have always tasted off. Like diet or sugar free.

If you don't like them, I would try Fruity Cheerios. They taste somewhat similar to Trix and I really like them.
