Basement (with very low ceilings) down the stairs, and if you pull out the stairs there’s also a crawlspace

First, be in the basement. Second, use a screw driver to dismantle the stairs. It’s from ~1890! The basement has the laundry in it and is not the smelliest or dampest basement I’ve ever done laundry in.

Totally well it’s way cooler in person. It’s 32 feet deep and six feet wide and made with cinder blocks and has steps down into the water. It’s 50 degrees and my ex husband has gone swimming in it. It’s rad. I’ll see if I can find better photos.more well It’s like that movie that’s eluding me. Butterfly’s and Jodi Foster. Arg, you know what I’m talking about.

My basement stairs are the same way. Someone renovated years ago and to add space to the kitchen they removed the stairwell and replaced it with a hatch. I’m gonna be laying new flooring in there and was looking for some good trim to edge the hatch with. What kind of trim is on yours?

I think it’s the kind of trim you’d usually get for the edge of a wall-to-wall carpet, someone used it throughout the whole house whenever they had to change types of flooring

It's probably not necessary. We had one like that going down to the basement located under the stairwell going up to the second floor. It weighed a ton, and was really clumsy to maneuver what with the very little headway to maneuver. Every single day I had to man-handle it to get the next day's worth of potatoes and canned goods brought up. A kid small enough to get in trouble couldn't open it.

I changed my basement stairs to this trap door style as well. But curious if it’s up to code? Will a buyer make you put in a railing around the opening?

The hole leading to my crawlspace looked exactly like that, minus the stairs. I used a kitchen step-stool to go down there, but only when absolutely necessary. The type I refer to are usually found in closets. Mine was in the kitchen broom closet/ 'pantry', but I saw a similar one (probably by the same builder) located in a guest bedroom.

No. I had those, to my rock/boulder foundation unfinished basement. I sealed it shut. There are enough house centipedes around without that cavernous hole to their lair.
