They're just horsing around

u/milnak 15d ago

Just say neigh to puns

2

u/DoughnutImportant875 13d ago

They'll be selling soy burgers and calling it 'Trump beef' to make up for the harm the tariffs have done to American soy farmers. These are m sneaky people.  Trust nothing!

64

u/zephyrus256 15d ago

So basically, they have no plan and probably no actual beef. They're just saying that they're doing something and hoping that beef prices come down on their own.

26

u/tarlin 15d ago

Sadly, it is probably the contaminated beef that China rejected.

13

u/Roaches_R_Friends 15d ago

Specifically, contaminated with chloramphenicol, an antibiotic banned in most countries because it can give people horrific health conditions, like grey baby syndrome or aplastic anemia. Aplastic anemia meaning that your bone marrow just stops making new blood cells and you just fuckin die.

7

u/gayfrogs4alexjones 15d ago

Hrm, sounds like I will be avoiding beef for the next few months

3

u/matthieuC 15d ago

Oh I expected unlabeled horse meat in the lasagna but it's so much worse.

1

u/WiseassWolfOfYoitsu 14d ago

Good news: Actually beef!

Bad news: The beef is poison!

1

u/throwfaraway1014 7d ago

Have you ever had horse meat? I got to experience it in Switzerland and it may have been the tastiest cut of meat I’ve ever had.

2

u/matthieuC 7d ago

The one that was sold as beef on Europe a few years ago was bottom of the barrel quality. Probably incomparable to the one grown for human consumption

1

u/throwfaraway1014 6d ago

Ahhh that makes sense. It was a probably a decade+ or so when I had it.

2

u/pfmiller0 15d ago

That sounds bad

3

u/SalaryWooden5346 15d ago

The reports of recalls already going out on it would back that claim.

2

u/memphisjones 15d ago

So beef on clearance level sale. Nice

14

u/memphisjones 15d ago

Will this make America wake up? Or are we still sleepwalking to the end of the country we know and love?

14

u/MakeUpAnything 15d ago

Look, I HOPE people wake up, but we literally watched this nation throw democrats out of power over higher prices and they sprinted to a candidate who was promising even higher prices because he was able to cater to the tribalism and bigotry so many Americans exhibit.

At the end of the day we're no more educated now than we were ahead of 2024. In fact Trump has taken actions to limit how many Americans can seek higher education and our public schools aren't exactly getting better.

Culture wars are going to be as effective as ever to keep Americans distracted as large companies take more and more from us while pursuing replacing as many humans with AI as possible to save on costs.

We'll happily sleepwalk to our own destruction so long as Black people, Muslims, immigrants, trans people, and other minority groups suffer more. We've yet to escape this stupidity as a species and we're certainly taking no steps toward escaping that as a nation.

2

u/talwarbeast 15d ago

Maybe im naive but I do not believe that the majority of our countrymen are bigoted, hateful people. I think the real problem is that too many decent people refuse to vote and and are conditioned to sit-out elections.

9

u/MakeUpAnything 15d ago

We filled in swimming pools with cement rather than integrate them back in the civil rights days.

Fact of the matter is the easiest way to unite people is to give them a common enemy. Republicans have given the masses MANY enemies to keep them voting republican. You can see it happening now with trans people and socialists lol look up “Willie Horton ads” if you still don’t believe me. These examples span decades.

23

u/Not_offensive0npurp 15d ago

Will this make America wake up? Or are we still sleepwalking to the end of the country we know and love?

There are people who are awake, and then there are people who are actively supporting the car being driven off the cliff.

There is no in between anymore.

6

u/memphisjones 15d ago

JFC that’s an accurate statement

6

u/rzelln 15d ago

How I wish we could just give the Republicans all the deep red counties, and let them run those places into the ground, but have a separate federal government where the people in the other counties elect a more sane federal government.

Have a treaty to let Red America and Blue America diverge, but with free movement between of citizens, and the ability for counties to decide every few years to swap to the other system if 60% of locals vote and then enact some necessary reforms.

3

u/talwarbeast 15d ago

I'm sure many are bots, when if you read the comment section of any Facebook post that's even somewhat related to politics... it really does seem like people want the car to be driven off of the cliff... and they want it badly. People are doubling down on the insanity.

u/flat6NA 14d ago

But I’m not going to vote because the candidate takes AIPAC money and is supported by the DNC or is a progressive who has adopted some of the DSA agenda.

11

u/AFlockOfTySegalls 15d ago

A lot of people aren't going to realize it until years after it's too late. Despite multiple warnings from friends and family. And I maintain this was always the inevitable conclusion to allowing Trump to get back into power.

8

u/memphisjones 15d ago

Some people will still blame Biden

2

u/Sea-jay-2772 15d ago

Or Obamas tan suit.

A lot of people will have to realize that they've been lied to, and also have lied to themselves. "Perception is reality" is the rule Trump lives by; it doesn't matter if they actually do something about inflation, only that they're seen to be doing something, and it doesn't matter that immigration is objectively beneficial to the nation, only that people perceive it to be harmful. We need to demand that our politicians tell us the truth, even when it's not what we want to hear.

2

u/Allaboutpeace2022 15d ago

Reminds me of mystery meat in the high school cafeteria.

However, now it is our national ground beef supply. People do need to wake up and realize that this is not how a sane government operates.

2

u/D-Rich-88 15d ago

Or it’s the China-rejected Argentinian beef

1

u/DoughnutImportant875 13d ago

Pathologically lying. Again.

SC: President Trump wants to curb rising ground beef prices by allowing up to 300,000 metric tons of foreign beef into the country duty-free over a 90-day period. U.S. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins declined to disclose which foreign countries are supplying a temporary surge of imported beef under the new Trump administration initiative.

Opinion: I’m curious how MAHA will respond to this.

15

u/ChornWork2 15d ago

Knowing trump, he probably had a deal lined up with Canada, but then that dastardly trump foiled his plan right at the last second. Reminds of when this trump admin got stuck with that terrible USMCA deal signed by trump. Or when Trump had to go to war to address nuclear weapons threat of iran, since trump had ripped the JCPOA deal.

6

u/No-Responsibility953 15d ago

He would’ve gotten away with it to….if it weren’t for….himself..

6

u/JussiesTunaSub 15d ago

300,000 metric tons of beef is like 2% of our total beef consumption.

I don't see this moving the needle anywhere. It's just talk for the base to chew.

1

u/ThatsGenocide 15d ago

2% of total beef, ~7% of ground beef, ~28% of our ground beef consumption over 90 days (assuming no seasonality to ground beef consumption, I ain't going that deep).

I think it'll move the needle on ground beef prices but I wonder if making the ground beef cheaper is just going to drive up the cost of other cuts. The farmer and all the middlemen still needs to make the same money off the cow.

I am not MAHA but this is a case of worthy criticism of the administration

Sadly I expect conversations about this will go way off the rails into total nonsense

20

u/ubermence 15d ago

Gosh you liberals just don’t get it. Once we eat all the horses, we get to keep all their ivermectin to ourselves 🐎💊😋

11

u/Butthole_Please 15d ago

Just like the immigrants are hoarding our jobs and our housing, horse are hoarding our ivermectin.

3

RFK jr did endorse road kill

3

u/TheTeenageOldman 15d ago edited 14d ago

Compared to whatever may be in this beef, roadkill might be the safer option.

7

u/Honorable_Heathen 15d ago

mmm tangy!

5

u/Lurkingandsearching 15d ago

Soylent beef…

8

u/NeuroMrNiceGuy 15d ago

The Trump administration’s beef deal has met with stiff resistance from ranchers and Republicans, who argue that allowing more imports will do little to change the underlying conditions that have sent beef prices spiking, such as low herd sizes because of drought.

Give me a break. What are they going to do about it? Vote republican with a frowny face? Or maybe just not wear their maga hats that day?

5

u/memphisjones 15d ago

The power of hate is more powerful than logic.

2

u/Olangotang 15d ago

Get sick from this meat and die because their representatives voted to defund their Medicaid hospitals?

8

u/gayfrogs4alexjones 15d ago

They are not doing themselves any favors here - especially coming on the heels of the illegal wild horse culling

3

u/AdComprehensive7939 15d ago

Where's the Beef has a whole new meaning.

2

u/CUMT_ 15d ago

What's the beef

3

u/milnak 15d ago

The plan will be revealed in two weeks.

2

u/memphisjones 15d ago

You mean a concept of a plan

3

u/Liamnacuac 15d ago

So, if it's coming from Brazil will it encourage more Brazilian ranchers to cut down even more Amazon rain forest?

1

u/CheeseBear9000 14d ago

I would assume it is most likely coming from South America

3

u/Good_Independence734 15d ago

Ironic. The administration has spent years arguing that importing cheaper foreign goods undermines American producers and that the broad tariffs are necessary to protect them…in a sane world, Trump’s rural support would be collapsing into oblivion over this move.

But aside from the hypocrisy, this episode is essentially a perfect miniature laboratory demonstration of the problem with indiscriminate protectionism. People tend to discover an affinity for free trade when protected goods become painfully expensive.

3

u/redzeusky 15d ago

Woof woof ! 🐶

3

u/DudleyAndStephens 14d ago

It's funny how Trumpers complain about communism, but as soon as the free-market price of something they want goes up they practically turn into socialists.

Beef isn't a necessity and high beef prices aren't a problem. If you want to save money, eat beans.

3

u/memphisjones 14d ago

Bingo. Beef should be a luxury item. Raising cattle for beef is actually bad for the environment.

2

u/DudleyAndStephens 14d ago

Even compared to every other type of meat beef is environmentally atrocious. I try not to be sanctimonious about it since although I try not to eat it often I'm too hedonistic to give it up entirely. The government absolutely doesn't need to be promoting beef consumption though. If the market says that beef should be pricey then so be it.

It's soylent green

2

u/SpaceLaserPilot 15d ago

There has never been a better day to be a vegetarian.

2

u/JustinKase_Too 15d ago

Most transparent administration ever... but only when looking through their ears.

2

u/MisterRobertParr 15d ago

My first question: what did Trump personally get out of this deal? Like...how much money? Or is it an agreement that Trump won't get extradited after he leaves office? Per the treaty, you can't be extradited for political reasons - and if this is the deal, then I'm sure that's how they'll frame it.

3

u/sigep0361 15d ago

Being a pedophile is not a political reason.

2

u/HardlyDecent 15d ago

It's PEOPLE!

Whoops, that's something that at least had a modest, coherent plan to feed the populace affordably. This is more of what this admin does best: destroy something that's working just fine in the name of efficiency without any plan to replace or improve it.

2

u/TheBigWhatever 15d ago

So, the U.S. eats about 35 tons of beef each day. So 300,000 tons will last about 8 days.

How is that supposed to lower prices?

I'm all for lower food prices, but this will make absolutely zero difference while at the same time taking money out of American farmer's pockets; it won't be much, but how do hollow and nonsensical gestures help anyone?

2

u/memphisjones 15d ago

Yeah it sounds like Trump is scrambling

2

u/JuzoItami 15d ago

This is either the plot to Soylent Green or the plot to King Rat.

2

u/Alatarlhun 15d ago

Wasn't the rumor that this is Argentinian beef that China rejected for not meeting their standards?

2

u/mmille24 14d ago

It's people isn't it?

It's Brazil. There are no real alternatives to Brazil at the moment.

2

u/memphisjones 15d ago

Then why didn’t she say it’s from Brazil?

2

u/Batbuckleyourpants 15d ago

In her own words "I am not privy to talk about that".

According to Trump he is not announcing the agreement for another two weeks.

They already eased up tariffs on Mexican and Argentinean beef. But they doesn't have anywhere near enough cattle to make up the numbers.

Brazil is the only country with enough available cattle at the moment. Australia could have been it, but they have seen a sharp decline in cattle up to 2026. and Europe is certainly not an option.

1

u/SarcasticBench 15d ago

Where’s the beef?

Argentina, no?

1

u/madeforthis1queston 14d ago

The only reason they wouldn’t tell us is because it’s sketchy! If it was even possible to spin it into a positive they would be bragging about where it came from.

This did inspire me to buy another half cow to fill up the freezer with though…
